Congress leader Sam Pitroda stirred a major controversy after remarking that Indians in the East resemble the Chinese while those in the South look like Africans, drawing swift criticism from the BJP. The Congress immediately distanced itself from Pitroda's remarks, terming them "unacceptable".
In an interview with The Statesman, Pitroda, while discussing India's status as a democratic example, said the country's people "survived 75 years in a very happy environment where people could live together leaving a few fights here and there."

Wrt NE, what Sam said is correct because from 1200 CE to 1832CE north east used to be a collection of Bengali kingdoms which were first invaded and occupied by Tai Chinese from Yunnan followed by Burmese invasion and occupation.
The Ahoms Meitei are Tai Chinese.
The Kukis, Nagas, Mizos are Burmese Chin people.
1832CE East India Company liberated North East from Burma but with a majority Chinese and Burmese origin population a large number of whom have never accepted themselves as Indians.
This is the crux of never ending insurgencies supported by China and Burma, inter tribal conflicts and conflicts between the Sino Burmese tribals and Indic non tribals.
If we have to unite the union of India, first we need a truth and reconciliation not lies, half truths and suppression of history.
