Witcher 3 Gwent: Beating High Stakes with the Skellige deck! (Hard Gwent difficulty)

  • Whilst going through my most recent playthrough of Witcher 3 in order to make my Death March walkthrough, I made a manual save before taking on the 'High Stakes’ Gwent tournament.
    This tournament is difficult and probably features the best Gwent opponents in Witcher 3, so I always relish the challenge.
    This series of videos features me beating High Stakes with each of the 5 decks available. The play isn't perfect each time, but considering that the Gwent difficulty is set to 'Hard’, I think they're solid illustrations of how to use each deck. Interestingly you can see that the opponents don't always make perfect plays even with the Gwent difficulty set to Hard.
    I lost to the Northern Realms halfling when using my own Northern Realms, Monster and Skellige decks, although I have completed High Stakes with no losses using both the Northern Realms and Skellige decks on previous playthroughs.
    This time round I won straight through on the Nilfgaardian and Scoia'tael deck tournament playthroughs.
    I hope you enjoy the videos; please like, comment and subscribe for more Witcher 3 content!

    Scorching your Olaf only to bring him back with Yennefer destroyed my brain

    Also, what the AI should've done with monster deck, was Decoy the katakan and force a draw, in order to cancel out the Skellige ability on Round 3 by making it a best of 2. Doubt that was programmed into them to consider as a possibility, though.

    i wonder if it is possible to use the skellige deck against the guy in the auction house. they would have to have added extra dialogue since you chat with him at the beginning about what deck you’re using.

      Interesting, I'm not sure. I'm 99% certain that you can use the Skellige deck, but the options don't change.

      I come 2 years late after doing exactly this, there's no dialogue option to say you play Skellige. But you can still play it

    Hey Phoenix! I just followed a guide for 19 people through B&W and got the starter deck but only have 2 Shield Maiden cards. How did you get the 3rd? Thanks!

      I can't remember offhand, but you start with one or two already and win the others as part of the Gwent quest.
      You might have them all without realising it.

      Check out my video about going to Toussaint early; it's in the Tips playlist on my channel.
      You're supposed to do it at about level 35, but you can do it as early as level 15ish if you want to.
      You can leave playing most Gwent until after you've got the Skellige deck, and use it for pretty much every opponent in the game if you really wanted to.

      Just the once against NR, as per the description. 33 isn't too many for this type of deck; swaps at the start matter quite a bit.
      Tricky deck Skellige, but fun, and interesting!

    how do you pick which row the agile card is gonna go on when you medic it?

    • @DPhoenix237
      @DPhoenix237  Před 4 lety +5

      You don't; it's automatic. If there is an existing advantage for one row then it gets played there; for example if you have a Commander's Horn on the Melee row it'd go there, or if there is a Biting Frost already played, it'll go on the Ranged rope instead.
      If there is no advantage then as far as I know, it's random. It won't take into account 'potential' advantages or disadvantages. Like if your opponent has the Northern Realms perk that can played the Ranged Weather card, it won't matter and the medic can still put your Agile card on that row.

    Спустя столько времени, колода Скеллиге выглядит не такой уж и слабой и зависимой от бога Радомия... Уже надо снижать силу спутниц Керис, уменьшать воздействие мардрёма на молодых берсерков. Да и самих медведей многовато... хотя... Вот шпион бы пригодился, свой и персональный в колоду Скеллиге. Карте Драйг бон Дху, поменять бы назначение, книге он был скальдом путешественником, и бывал при дворах высших особ. Да и крепкую связь добавить ещё бы каким-нибудь картам...😏

    Playing out Thaler for the second time in the first round is dumb because now you’re giving the opponent directly the chance to heal him back. Keeping spys to the last round or preventing the opponent from getting them back is key to having card advantage when you play against real humans

    • @DPhoenix237
      @DPhoenix237  Před rokem

      No it wasn't dumb. This is the Skellige deck with the Crach leader ability. If they replay Thaler again, that's their second Decoy of 3 used and I can either play it out using Birna in round 2, or manipulate the graveyard to give me a better chance of pulling that or Djikstra from my graveyard at the start of round 3.
      This is also a Mardroeme/Berserker setup of the Skellige deck so it's better to play spies as early as possible because you need to be able to plan out which cards you've got, how to transform them, and to plan for round 3 and how you manipulate the graveyard to maximise the 3rd round start ability and/or Cerys and the Shield Maidens (if you draw them).
