The thing that annoys me is that Britain, France and Netherlands get heat for keeping hold of previous colonies and territories but the USA seem to be immune from debates about them holding onto places like Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa ect. I mean most of them were conquered pretty much by imperialism they just don't like to admit it.
Personally I think all European nations should be able to keep current territories they hold. Either all of it is okay (meaning every nation has the rights to overseas territories) or none of it is okay (meaning all territories must be given independence in some way shape or form).

Oh, boy, then you'll hate the history of Equatorial Guinea, Sidi Ifni and Western Sahara.
They didn't wanted independence but the United Nations, USA and France forced Spain to give them independence.
Equatoguinean politicians, back then, constantly asked Spain to stop it for they knew if Equatorial Guinea got independence, they'd collapse as a country but the UN and european peoples kept pushing Spain, so they got independence, they colapsed and nowadays they still have a dictatorship.
And western Sahara was kinda the same except Morocco forced Spain to give the Sahara to them even though the Sahrawis didn't want it (They wanted to remain Spanish or become independent).
All that suffering because people thought they were colonies and threatened Spain to sanction/isolate them if they didn't gave an unwanted independence to half the country.
*(The most hypocrital/ironical fact of this is that USA and France were the biggest threats/bullies to Spain about this and to this day USA keeps Puerto Rico and France the French Guyana (which has a worse quality of life compared to Equatorial Guinea in 1967))
