    With Modern Masters’ family of water-based reactive metallic paints, you can create turnings with an ancient appearance or combine the natural beauty of wood with the look and feel of a metallic surface to create a stunning piece that leaves others wondering how you made it. Add a pinch of creativity such as beading, texturing or carving and you're on your way to creating great looking turnings that are uniquely you.
    Using Modern Masters’ reactive metallic finishes is simple and easy. Simply apply the primer to a sanded bare-wood surface, apply 2 coats of metallic paint (lightly sanding between applications), spritz the surface with the aging solution of your choice and let it oxidize. For those who want to discover the limitless possibilities of reactive metal finishing, the process can be as simple or complicated as you like with even greater benefits as you explore the possibilities.
    Note: Modern Masters coatings should not be used on turnings that will be handled frequently or that come in contact with food or other metallic items such as rings, etc. Use only on decorative turnings. Instructions included.
    • Looks and feels like a genuine metallic surface
    • Proven performance: used in commercial applications for decades
    • Combine metallic finish and natural wood for stunning effects
    • Add surface treatments like beading, texturing or carving for even more unique results
    • Spritzer cap fits 4 oz. and 16 oz. oxidizing bottles (not included)
    • Combine with gilding wax for added dimension
    • Use with confidence: re-sand and start over again if needed
    • Can be applied with airbrush, brush, sponge, etc.
    • Possibilities are limited only by your imagination
    • Always wear appropriate personal safety gear
    Step 1 - Metal Effects Primer seals the wood surface and prevents contaminates from leaching from the wood into the metal finish. Required for use with all metallic paints. Apply with a sponge or brush.
    Step 2 - Metal Effects Oxidizing Paint transforms turned wood pieces into metal art. Applied over Modern Masters Primer, this water-based metallic paint is quick and easy to apply with a sponge or brush. Available in Bronze, Copper and Iron.
    Step 3 - Aging Solution is designed to oxidize the metallic paint base very quickly. Create stunning effects on Copper and Bronze painted pieces with Green or Blue Patina Aging solution. Add a time-worn look to Iron painted pieces with Rust Aging Solution. Combine these effects with gilding wax for added dimension. The optional spritzer cap makes even application quick and easy, but it can also be sponged, brushed or drizzled onto the surface.

      If you are going to use Iron Metallic Paint, then the Rust Activator is needed to start the oxidation process.

    I am planning on using this for table legs and matching chairs for outdoor use. What would you suggest I seal the finish with? How do I stop the reaction before sealing?

    • @CraftSuppliesUSA
      @CraftSuppliesUSA  Před 6 lety +2

      For outdoor use, a sealant is not required. Because this is a "living patina" it will continue to age and become more pronounced over time. However, if you want to stop the reaction, use a spray lacquer to seal the patina. Here's a link. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/17/2406/Masters-Magic-Spray-Lacquer

    Can i use MM Metal effects Acid Blocking Primer instead of MM Metal Effects Primer with MM Metal effects copper paint instead of MM Metal effects Oxidizing copper paint?

    • @CraftSuppliesUSA
      @CraftSuppliesUSA  Před 7 lety +2

      You'll be fine using the primer of your choice. The purpose of the primer is only to block the metal effects paint. And you can use MM Metal copper paint instead of the oxidizing paint. The only difference is that you will need to apply a sealer/top clear coat on the copper paint. This info can be found on Modern Masters website. Thanks.

    Anyone know if this will go through an airbrush?

    • @CraftSuppliesUSA
      @CraftSuppliesUSA  Před 6 lety +1

      We don't recommend using Modern Masters in an airbrush, because there is acid in the products that will corrode your hardware and it's too thick. It will work with a paint sprayer, but not an airbrush.

    • @CraftSuppliesUSA
      @CraftSuppliesUSA  Před 9 lety +1

      JR Lenard You can easily use Modern Masters on pen blanks. We recommend a clear top coat such as shellac (friction polish), lacquer or CA finish to seal the metallic finish on items being handled. Here's a link to a photo of three oxidized pens we made. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/images/prod/1001/mm_met_eff_pens.jpg

      What is the shelf life of this stuff? JimE

    • @CraftSuppliesUSA
      @CraftSuppliesUSA  Před 9 lety

      Jim E Shelf life. You'll get about 4 years If the products are sealed. If you have open containers, you'll have about a year before the metal and primer thicken or the ageing solution starts oxidizing on its own. The largest factor in shelf life is the environment the products are stored in. Modern Masters recommends a cool, dry environment for optimal storage and shelf life.

    Modern Masters does not work. They sent me a replacement kit that didn't work either and finally gave me a refund.
