  • For this week'a wood turning project I hark back to ancient times and turn a shield from sycamore and embellish it with Modern Masters Reactive Paints - you know, the ones that tarnish.
    It was nice to get back to some artistic wood turning to make this piece on the lathe.

    As before, I truly admire your work and artistic eye. This is not my "cup-o-tea" but I do like the craftsmanship that went into making it. BZ

    Martin, great result with this piece, not sure that the camera focus is as good in the new workshop as the old one. Struggle to see the lathe work and you come in and out of focus a bit, but early days and I'm sure that it'll bed itself in - I certainly enjoy your work.

    Amazing turning. The use of the metal paint along with the tarnish spray is something I have not seen before. Great job on this piece.

    Thanks Martin. I thought about making a shield a couple weeks ago, but never would have thought of using oxidizing paints. Great idea, and the end result is spot on. It looks real with the effect of the paints, great job! Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

    Why shouldn't you go creatively mad, it's Christmas. Got to say I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Right from when you turned the shape of the front was excellent. I was worried what you were going to do to it. Glad you held back with the texturing as I think that is just about perfect. As a finished arty piece I think it's absolutely perfect. You could imagine this being found at some archaeological site. As a wood turned piece I don't like it, but that's because I like to see wood, so if I don't think of it as wood working then spot on. Hopefully that makes sense. Well done, one of your best videos. Have a great Christmas and a prosperous, healthy Happy New Year.

    Absolutely stunning, definitely going to invest in a texturing tool, have been unsure about one until now.
    You mentioned the metallic paints were from modern masters, is it a specific type as a google search heeded numerous different results.
    Thanks for the great content as always.
    All the best.

    A good insight of using paints on wood..1 question, would you get the same results on most light woods??

      Hi John. I'm not sure where you would be able to buy these paints in Greece. You could try www.annikas.gr though. He may have some way of getting for you.

  • @johnfithian-franks8276
    @johnfithian-franks8276 Před 7 lety +1

    Sorry Martin, but I do not like this. It is only my opinion and it would not be right if we all loved the same things, but as I said I do not like it. I did however like the texturing of the piece. All the best to you and your family for 2017 and I look forward to many more turnings that I will like.
