Says take door off and turn this to off position. what's (this) does it have a name

Great point, the "this" part is the gas valve inside that is labelled "on", "off", "pilot". It will be in the "on" position all summer and gets turned to "off" for the winter.

It is well intended but just too generalized and nothing is explained with any sense - what is "it", what "this and this". You really cannot expect people to follow this. It should be a step by step clearly described process.
