An exciting week! You know, your rock lizard might appreciate that ceramic cactus! 😊 Enjoyed the village walk. That solarium (?) addition was drop-dead gorgeous.❤
Love that solarium - apparently it was a french lady who built it years ago to impress her English lover! And the house was occupied by the Germans in ww2…
Living on a volcano...actually 5 volcano's - we get a good shake up like yours every couple of days. This is the Big Island of Hawaii and there is lava flowing about 30 miles from the house. Previous residence was on the San Andreas fault in the San Francisco peninsula. Is that jumping from the frying pan...into the fire??? Don't know but they have both been great places to live...now France is looking very nice.
That must be so different to feel something like that ever few days… do you just get used to it? It confused me more as we are nowhere near a fault line.
@@theexpatbutchers I haven't gotten used to it...living in the San Francisco Bay area 20 yrs then Hawaii 25 yrs I still hold my breath until its over. Was in a bad one back in 1989 (7.2) which took years to recover from. The difference between a 5 and 7 in an earthquake is unimaginable. So I guess that's why I hold my breath...because you don't know if its going to get worse while its going on. Looked up France fault lines...you have then but considered inactive and you have quakes but so small you don't feel them. But a 4.8 is strong enough to feel and make you notice. I’m an electronics technician working with electronics and glass. Many of the epoxies I use require the exhaust hood for ventilation. But Pennsylvania- I do live near Amish and see a lot of buggies. They’re great people in my book and would help anyone if they needed it. The seasons are nice here but I do hate the snow! We can sometimes get a lot which makes the 45 minute drive to work through the mountains a bit difficult! I’m sure I will appreciate it more when I retire lol.
Hey, guys! Enjoyed the trip to Bordeaux with you. Somehow, Nick managed to find everything of questionable taste to share with us🤣🤣. I'm with you on the earthquakes Clare! I'm terrified of them! Here in New Zealand, quakes are common further down the country. Where my Mum lived had quakes all the time, I was with her several times when they struck. Only small ones, I think the biggest I experienced was about 3.9, but that was enough for me! France having an earthquake wow. Well I live in Whakatane, New Zealand, living sadly right on the Fault line of the South Pacific Rim. Was raised here living with regular earthquakes and have the odd Tsnami warnings via phone nattional emergency. A few years back we had a few quakes, one early hrs, a level 7 something. morning light my town were ordered to leave with an offshore of 7 something. As a teen I worked in a supermarket, we had a major quake, the shelves rocked and everything came flying down, the tall shop owner came out of nowhere covering and protecting me, I couldnt see anything being pulled and under someone but the noise has stuck with me for life, you never forget. My coworker opposite me in the isle screamed. The supermarket was a mess, as this one which was the 2nd and major, I had been picking up products off the floor from the first earthquake. As the second and Major quake was settling but did not stop, we left, I had to enter out through the store room as the isle to the front of the shop floor was full. The car park we all sat in never stopped morning, like waves with streetlights and shop windows non stop waving. We were without power and water for some time, but I left a few days after while the aftermath carry on for a holiday overseer's. As a kid in primary school and college we had regular earthquake and drills. At college a few stick out in my memory, we all in class looking at each other as everything rocked, I was thinking do I get under my desk or ride it out, another sitting in the school hall having my lunch on a raining day when it went for a rock. Ive had a lot of experience laying in my bed having big rocks. I also live not far from White Island, a live volcano. The earthquakes and live volcano have always given me the shits and in the back of my mind. I always referred to live somewhere else, get out. I did manage for a time but then divorce and shit happens and end up back in this town Whakatane pronounced Fuck a tar knee. Ps I am looking for a new home for someone to inherit me and my lil old dog Rusty. xo earthquakes here are a daily experience over this country, white island puffs along each day
Wow 😯 what an incredible thing to go through. I can not imagine what the noise would have been like… it sounded like a huge roaring truck here. Big hugs to Rusty 🥰
@@theexpatbutchers The supermarket experience sounded to start with like someone tramping on a tin roof above and it just got louder, then boom the shelves and products go, my Deli wall ovens flew of the wall on ground. Often I hear them coming, like if I am in bed, my tall french chruch lamp will start to rock and things on my dressing table clatter, always just lay or sit the rockings out, hoping they wont get bigger, and wonder each time if I need to get out of bed and stand under the door frames. It's odd for France, didnt think there was a fault line there. The Pacific Rim of Fire Fault line runs right down the middle of New Zealand. Our cel phones are all connected into Civi Defense NZ. I have had the experience a few years back, Id just got out of the shower and my phone alarm went. Just grabbed clothing, my dog, container of water and a bit of food for him and fled, just drove before the whole town clogged up to flee and it did people got trapped not being able to leave in there cars, drive out of my coastal flat area town and into the country inland. We have one hill to the side of town where everyone at once tried to escape too. White Island just out at sea from my town had a explosion erupted more than usual, killing tourists and tourist workers on the volcano at the time. English Tourists were involved, Australian, and NZ. Other Parties had just boarded there boats , as they drove off saw the explosion, circled heading back to try save those still on the island caught up in the eruption. Local Helicopter operators flew out to the island -what hero's they are putting there own lives at risk to save who they could, alive or dead. The boats did too. The Sulphur acid did a lot of physical harm. Its something that our local hospital, no one was prepared for and in large amount. Go on line, check it out. Whakatane - Edgecumbe Earthquake 1987 White Island is the volcano, I think the year late 2019.
I see 2 comments from NZ on here , did u feel the big Mag 7.8 back in 2016 . It woke me up I just froze in bed looking at the light swing backwards and forwards 😮 . I never got any sleep that hole night after that .

Oh no😮. So sad that you go to Starbucks, they have terrible coffee, the fast food of coffee. The French have much better coffee. One of the worst things about them, and there are many bad things , is, that they serve their brew in paper cups😢
I do agree Jurgen it is not the best thing, more of a nostalgic treat…in the UK there would be drive through coffee shops where as out here it’s just not the culture. I used to visit coffee shops with paper cups and drive throughs a lot more in the UK and just fancied a Starbucks while in the big smoke of Bordeaux- they are riddled with calories and in my opinion are more like a liquid pudding or dessert… I do enjoy french coffee a lot more now when I first arrived and can even stomach it black now(ex latte fan) Hope the judgment is not too bad now there is an explanation x

After many years it has now become a sport for him 😂
I used to visit coffee shops with paper cups and drive throughs a lot more in the UK and just fancied a Starbucks while in the big smoke of Bordeaux- they are riddled with calories and in my opinion are more like a liquid pudding or dessert…
I do enjoy french coffee a lot more now when I first arrived and can even stomach it black now(ex latte fan)
Hope the judgment is not too bad now there is an explanation x
