      So glad to hear it! The guardians have great comics so have a blast with reading them!

    Really good video thx, even cool intro for people who might not be familiar with comic books and a concept of comic book runs being a sort of separate thing

      Thanks! Comics are confusing so I hope I was able to make it a little easier for people to get into reading them.

    I watched this video and started reding some of the comics you recommended, and read some others as well. This is my ranking to the series I have read. I will edit this list when I have read more. I know that no one will really read this, but I wanted to put this out there.
    Rocket (2017)
    This series was almost perfect. It was a short series (six issues), yet I remember more of the story in this than any other series I read. The series had my favorite portrayal of Rocket I have read in any comic. He is slightly different in this than in the movies and other comics. He is more empathetic and doesn't kill anyone while doing crime. If you liked Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, you will love this comic series. Plus, I don't know why, but I love when Rocket is in a suit. The art is also amazing in the series.
    Groot (2015)
    This was another short series (six issues) that I loved. It was heartwarming and really went into Groot's character. Would highly recommend. (Edit: just reread it and I’m tempted to put of ahead of Rocket. It is the best written Groot-rocket duo there is. Couldn’t recommend it more)
    All New Guardians of the Galaxy (2017)
    Another great series. Definitely not perfect, I didn't like how much the Guardians were seperated in the latter parts of the series, but it was a fun series that I enjoyed.
    Rocket Raccoon (2014)
    This was the first series I read and I loved it. Skottie Young's art was some of the best I've seen. I like the cartoony approach he took. There was a few one-off issues I really didn't like, I like it when I series has each issue contributing to a story line, but the over-arching story was good, and I enjoyed it. Even though there was 11 issues, the ending felt rushed to me. Other than that, it was almost perfect.
    Rocket Raccoon and Groot (2016)
    Not terrible by any stretch, but not great. Like Rocket Raccoon (2014), it had quite a few issues that had nothing to do with each other. Actually, I forgot if there was even an overarching story in it. The first couple issues barely even had Rocket and Groot and were forgettable. The rest was ok, some issues better than others. (Edit: I'm in the middle of re-reading this, and I have decided to put it above both Al Ewing's run and Rocket Raccoon Grounded. It doesn't really have much of an overarching story, and the first 2 issues weren't that good, I have loved reading all the other ones again. Would recommend this to people to read)
    Rocket Raccoon (2016) Grounded
    I didn't expect to like this one, but I did. The start of it was I bit slow, But the story picked up pretty quickly. It was the shortest series I read, (five issues), but it didn't feel rushed. I liked how it portrayed Rocket as a bitter person but by the end he was a very heroic character.
    Guardians of the Galaxy: The telltale series
    I was going through marvel unlimited and I found this short series with 5 issues. I wanted an easy to read, simple comic to read before bed, so I read this. And while I do have 3 issues with it, it generally served the purpose I had for it. A quick action adventure that was easy to read that was pretty fun. My 3 complaints are: I didn't really like the art, Rocket is portrayed as a jerk, (and even lying about what groot says, which I absolutely hate) and they tried to put in aspects of telltale games like Quill saying the two options he has out loud and unrealistically, which really took me out of the book. Two things I loved were the covers, and one of rocket's quotes: 'Now Legoo! I got a cynical, unsentimental facade that is totally not a defense mechanism to maintain here!"
    Guardians of the Galaxy (2020-2021)
    I am so disappointed in this series. Its by Al Ewing, the guy who did the Rocket (2017) series, so I though I was going to love it. And I did. For the first 4 or so issues. It was great. Rocket had the same personality as in the Rocket series, and he still had his suit. The guardians were somewhat together, and Star Lord and Rocket were a duo. However, after those issues, it went downhill from there, to the point that I find it a chore finishing it. (I'm not even finished, I'm at issue 15 out of 18) (Moderate spoilers) After something happened that made the Guardians split, the Guardians had a mini fight. However, I truce was called and they went separate ways. All the comic follows of the original guardians was Rocket and Groot. (who doesnt do much) I only read comics for the Guardians so that was the reason I didn't care for all these other Characters. (There are quite I few other characters in the Guardians) However, even after the original guardians are working together again, they were seperated on different missions that the comic keeps switching back and forth from. After they were together again, there was little Character development or the Characters interacting. Each issue was just, "heres a bad guy to beat, heres another bad guy to beat," with no breaks. It was just generic super hero stuff. Nothing of what makes the Guardians special. The covers of issues #13 through the end really shows this. All the covers are super generic with nothing that really differentiates them. With the Guardians on different missions, separated, it wasn't even enjoyable. Rocket, even though he was the only original guardian left other than Groot, was very underutilized. He started out with a pretty big role, but that slowly went away, to the point that we barely ever hear him speak. It was disappointing, since Al Ewing can write Rocket so well. By the end, he was just cranky and not very nice. It felt like his dialogue was written by a completely separate person from the start of the series. Sorry for the rant, I just had so high hopes for this series. I read it directly after Rocket (2017) and the first few issues were Phenomenal, (Good enough to put it ahead of Rocket (2017))which is why I'm not putting it lower on the list. (Edit: actually, I AM putting it on the bottom. Most of the issues were chores to read) I wish Al Ewing focused more on the original guardians not on so many other characters I don't care about.

      I’m really curious to know other peoples opinion in Al Ewings series, I don’t know if my dislike of it is just me or if people generally agree it is bad.

    Why didn't you like the Bendis Guardians? I thought those were pretty similar to the movie Guardians

    • @IamT-Rex
      @IamT-Rex  Před rokem +2

      it felt more like an impression of the movies instead of it’s own thing. I love Bendis usually like ultimate spider-man is one of my favorite comics but i just didn’t love his guardians stuff. For me it’s just whatever and i love a few runs a lot more

    Thanks for this video. This is the first time I have ever read comics, so this was a very good introduction to me. I read the Rocket Raccoon series first and I enjoyed it. I was wondering if the Rocket racoon and groot series by Skottie Young would act as a sequel for it, since the series ended without much of an ending.

    • @IamT-Rex
      @IamT-Rex  Před rokem +1

      I haven’t read that series but i assume since it’s by the same creative team it will still carry on. Sometimes Marvel rebrands books so if you like Skottie Young’s rocket book Rocket and Groot is probably a great continuation!

      @@IamT-Rex Thank you so much for your response! I read it, and it was it was its own story in general, with only a reference to the previous story to start it off. Both series had their own individual overlying story, but much of both series were individual adventures not contributing to that. To me it felt like the final issue of Rocket Racoon was rushed. (Spoilers) The plot of him meeting someone else of his kind I feel like could have been expanded upon. Both series were still a lot of fun, and I would recommend them both to anyone who asks. I would also strongly recommend the Groot (2015) series. It is not by the same writer, but it expands upon the personality of Groot established in Rocket Racoon. Groot was probably my favorite series out of the three.
      I do have a question about one of the comics you said were fine to decent. I saw the cover of the first issue of the Guardians of the Galaxy series by Al Ewing (2020). I am considering reading that one. What are your opinions on that one?
      Thank you so much for this amazing video!

      @@SevenPilot I heard great things about the Al Ewing run and I read the first trade and a half and it was alright it just wasn't one that I fell in love with. And it's way better than the stuff Bendis did with guardians. So overall it's a pretty alright read just not one I loved and for the video I wanted to recommend books that I was 99% sure anyone would have a blast with. You might love Al Ewing's run though a lot of people seem too!

      @@IamT-RexSorry, I have ANOTHER question. To read Abnett and Lanning run do you recommend reading Annilation and Annilation: conquest first, or should I just start with the guardians series? Also, I read Al Ewings run and as stated in my other comment it wasn't my favorite. Thank you for your help navigating this I really appreciate it.

    Where is the best place to buy comics? I am specifically looking to start with the Rocket Raccoon comics and don’t know where to start.

    • @IamT-Rex

      I would say your local comic book store is a great place to start especially if you have one near you! If not Amazon has some pretty good deals on comics especially trade paperbacks that are more recent. My rocket raccoon comics I got off Amazon. If you are looking at more hardcover collections instocktrades is a good website as well for omnibuses.
