Final Fantasy VI, also known as Final Fantasy III from its marketing for its initial North American release in 1994, is a role-playing video game developed and published by Japanese company Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Final Fantasy VI, being the sixth game in the series proper, was the first to be directed by someone other than producer and series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi; the role was filled instead by Yoshinori Kitase and Hiroyuki Ito. Yoshitaka Amano, long-time collaborator to the Final Fantasy series, returned as the character designer and contributed widely to visual concept design, while series-regular, composer Nobuo Uematsu, wrote the game's score, which has been released on several soundtrack albums. Set in a fantasy world with a technology level equivalent to that of the Second Industrial Revolution, the game's story follows an expanding cast that includes fourteen permanent playable characters. The drama includes and extends past depicting a rebellion against an evil military dictatorship, pursuit of a magical arms-race, use of chemical weapons in warfare, depiction of violent, apocalyptic confrontations with Divinities, several personal redemption arcs, teenage pregnancy, and the continuous renewal of hope and life itself.

Hey Jared! Could you review The Legend of Dragoon on PS1 and possibly play it please?!
Thank you for uploading videos Jared, appreciated.
@@MALEMization I second this suggestion, please and thanks.
Personally how I would have fixed the whole character classes being lost to the magic system is to tie it to the character classes and make each character learn magic faster depending on their class compatibility.
You can still grind all the Spells if you want but it will take a lot longer to grind the ones that are out of character class, also the level of bonuses from the summons would also be tied to the class system if done this way to further incentivize those classes
Letâs gooo man!

Theres a reason why FF 6 is Nobuo Uematsu's favorite soundtrack. Every song is the best song.

41 years old, I found myself either with goosebumps, in tears, or laughing along. Reliving my childhood as well as adulthood was a joy. FFVI for me is the game of all games. Thank you so much ProJared!!! Your review of Final Fantasy VI..."was the best in the game." đ

I'm 43 and this game is special to me as well.
This is the only video game that has ever made me cry. That 2D 16-bit sprites could do that better than any game since makes FF6 my fave. You just want to give a huge hug to these characters and make sure they all succeed. Not to beat a game, but to help them find peace. Add the incredible music, and wow.

@@donjuantuno7447 I think he said that 7 or 8 times.
Uematsu's score to this game was SO unnecessarily amazing for a game of it's time. He could have phoned something much more basic in, and no one would have noticed in a 16 bit video game. But no, he makes something so intricate, epic, emotional, and unique, that I don't think it's EVERY been topped. To. This. Day.

Yeah. He could've made it like the soundtrack for 9.
I love how he talks about Runic being forgotten about when I've always been of the impression that it's one of the most broken abilities in any game ever. It has the ability to completely trivialize a ton of fights and it means Celes always has a huge pool of MP to work with, reinforcing her as the strongest mage in the game. I always find it interesting with these older games how we really did play them in a vacuum, and we all really did form our own opinions and strategies. Now peoples thoughts on games feel almost homogeneous. We all consume the same media surrounding them and share in a large community surrounding that specific game. I guess part of me is nostalgic for a time that's long gone, and even tho I wouldn't go back to it even if I could, there are some things I'll miss from time to time.
Well ain't that the truth. Internet is a good thing but it's now hard to formulate your own opinion without getting some semblance of bias from others.
Some people hate FF7 because it's too popular and didn't met their expectations. Some people hate FF6 because fans put it on a pedestal.
This comment is spot on. Peoples' opinions are completely homogenous. I've never heard _anyone_ say anything bad about Earthbound, ever: but having played Mother 3 first, I just don't find it compelling enough to complete playing through.
You mean people are told what to think and they listen.
I never really used Runic since I didnât have a sword there could use it for a while, but after I got another one Iâve been using it all the time since the last 4 bosses Iâve dealt with have had deadly magic attacks including METEO so Iâve had celes using runic and the rest of my team using Blitz Bushido and Chainsaw every turn, and everyone doing a healing spell before I put runic back up after an enemy attacks.
â@@straightupanarg6226 That is a huge problem with fanbases and the internet in general. People are deathly afraid of having opinions that go against the majority, because what worth is an opinion without likes, right? That results in opinions being way more homogenous than they should be.
Jared's character arc is the best in the game, imo.

FF 9 and 6 are pure treasures. The best of the best.
"It is ok to have scenes that don't further the plot, as it develops character."
This is a good lesson for life really. It's perfectly ok to take time away from your "main story", your career, your relationships etc., and focus on building who you are as a person. Prioritise becoming the best version of you, to improve both yourself and your life-plot.
Also I can't believe Jared never talked about the best song in the game smh...
I HATE THAT!!!!! Damn that Jared, never mentioning the best song at all... I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!!! >:(
for real, if you make a FF6 video, it is required to talk about The best song.
thanks i kinda needed that
While plot is important, it is OK to deviate from it from time to time provided that it keeps the reader/viewer/player engaged. The technique is not without risk, however. When doing a character development detour, it is VITAL to make sure the reader/viewer/player gives a rat's ass about the character, otherwise it just wastes his/her time. Don't bore your audience, boys and girls.
How can you call yourself a FF6 fan without talking about ThE bEsT sOnG EVURRRR?!?!?!
When Celes tried to kill herself and Projared says "I've been there" I felt the emotion behind it, his emotions. I'm glad he didn't give up when it felt like the world wanted him to. He's a great CZcamsr and one of the most consistent CZcamsrs out there and his videos have brought me a lot of joy.

I still feel that. It pains me to say it, but the life I'm living isn't one I want to be living. I strive to be better, but I can't seem to make it happen. I think about this moment a lot because at least it isn't just me.
I've only put 20 hours into this (not even halfway through the story), but, as I kept playing, Locke started to feel like the main character to me. Not because I choose him a lot (I mostly main Edgar), but because he always seems to be there in some form even when not in the party. Like, he's the spirit that pushes the others forward.
He's one of the more difficult party members to find in the second half, though, so it kind of balances out in the end.
I've literally never made a comment on a CZcams vid before but I just replayed this after it came out on Steam and in replaying, I share your delight. I played the original back in the day (yes, on the old gray cartridge - and yes, I would occasionally blow on it if I HAD TO do the universal 'Nintendo fix', ha). This, to this day, is not just one of my favorite games of all time, but also one of the best stories I've ever been told (that includes movies, books, everything I've ever consumed). I've recommended it to many because honestly? The fact that they're sprites DOES NOT matter - you still connect emotionally and it's profound. Thanks for the video.

Celes' opera scene will always be one of my top five favorite video game scenes, ever, and one of the best songs. Thank you for sharing with us!
This is still one of the best reviews I've seen in a video game. Not only does Jared capture the theme and synopsis of the game in the review itself, he also lived through it, this is the video that put Jared back on the map.
Not once ever did i consider during the Opera scene that Celes was hinting towards how she felt about Locke. Thank you for that! Well done!
and not once ever did i consider the opera scene to be pointless - what is wrong with those people?
Ikr? I thought she's just singing right from the script, except if you fuck it up
tentales10
I remember I used to hate the Opera scene. âUgh,â I thought, âthis is nice, but ultimately unimportant. Why does everyone say this is one of the best part of the games?â
Then I realized. Maria misses the one she loves, climbs to the peak, and throws the flowers off the roof.
One year later, Celes misses the ones she loves, climbs to the peak, and throws herself off the mountain.
As soon as I drew the parallels, I blanched, and Iâve loved the opera ever since.
I still get tears in my eyes when I hear the opera theme, it had a huge impact on me as a kid.

This is the best and most emotional review Iâve seen from you, Jerd. I not only watched the CZcams Premiere but also the Twitch Premiere. I wept with you and chat after the Twitch Premiere was over. I was also moved to tears throughout your playthrough of this game and your review of it. Especially when you said âIâve been there.â Although I never had self harm/suicidal thoughts or tendencies, it reflected on my own personal struggles with the feelings of disappointment, vengeance, hatred, anger, bitterness, resentment, holding grudges, betrayal, sorrow, pain, grief, guilt, regret, despair, pessimism, fear, anxiety, sadness, loss, heartbreak, and wanting to live in isolation/exist but not live, because of on how society is designed/based on; people bringing others down. Iâm thankful for the therapy I had from childhood to my teens, I still carry the advice it has given me through out my life. Final Fantasy VI is a classic that still stands the test of time.
"Come what may

This also parallels Rachel as she literally is being kept like the day she died
Damn dude, never realised that.
Also Rachel gives you the Phoenix magicite witch represents life, but also death and rebirth and not rebirth as coming back to life, but as making her live in locke's heart and mind ... Phoenix in this game, represents the everlasting life even after death through the people that loved us while we were with them...

Jared you forgot to rate it. I gotchu fam.
"That's why FF6 gets a best song in the game/10."
I'm so sad he's not doing that bit any more
I can even break down why that rating would work the way he would.
"There are so many things in the game to choose as the best that it's hard to pick. While there are clearly some that are better than others, the wide variety of options depending on personal taste and play style grant more choice than most any other final fantasy, or any other GAME to date at the time."
This game is the embodiment of who I am today. Sensitive, yet powerful. Probably no other media has shaped me into who I am today more than this game. The story is, hands down, the best in the series and really knows how to bring out the best in one.
You can keep your graphic, the story is where it is at and this one delivers. Octopus and all....
I always rewatch this video from time to time cause it's my favorite video of his. Not only because it's a very complex and emotional analysis of the game, but also to see how much he has overcome and changed over the years.

"I've been there, that feeling of overwhelming loss and pain and heartbreak and just wanting it to all end."
That almost made me cry because I've too been there: having suicidal thoughts, losing everything and thinking you're all alone in world, thinking its not going to get any better...its not easy.
FFVI has everything for everyone, in my case, the back history of Locke touch my heart, i also lost a girl that i loved so much because something that wasn't my fault or her fault, just, bad casualities of life, now, just hearing the song "Forever Rachel" makes me cry.

@@gregorymirabella1423 I think Zeno means that while Kefka may have indeed needed a hug at some point in his backstory, the Kefka who needed that hug is long gone. What we've got in the game is a man who wouldn't know how to value, or maybe even interpret, a hug. He is, to be frank, way too far gone. Way too lost in his detachment from humanity, his growing lust for power, his spiteful hatred and, in the World of Ruin, his eventual disillusionment and nihilism. I would argue that not every character needs a big backstory and character development. Just like in life, some people never change even during events that cause some people to change a lot.
But major plot characters DO need
I get where youâre coming from, but characters that get less development in the story, it feels like something WAS there. Strago for instance felt like something is missing from his story, probably because he was put in later in the WoB section.
Everyone's changes... To change is to grow
I especially really liked that Shadow has little to no backstory. Just like the way a Ninja speaks only when necessary, his mostly mysterious past pairs very well with that.
Edgar still could've used some depth and a vulnerable side to him though.

@@lifeloverNorris At the "I've been there" part, the chat filled with an outpouring of love and support that really just overwhelmed him. As well as a feeling of gratefulness that people liked the video he worked so long hard to make.
Your passion for this game is beautiful Jared⊠and I donât think Iâm the only one who would genuinely love to see a full in depth analysis of the characters from you. Your feelings, passion, sheer love and, I guess, private feelings that the game related to, make you one of the best people to do this. I really hope youâd consider it, one day.
I had almost the exact same story with this game. It wasn't the first jrpg I played, or even the first final fantasy, but it was the one that got me into the genre. Rented it like 8 times before I convinced my parents to buy it, and it's still my all time favorite. It even some how made the older ones better for me.
That final scene, where Terra lets her hair run loose in the wind, symbolising her newfound freedom, is quite simply stunning.

One of the most emotional video game I've ever came across. Words cannot describe how I adore this game, just got my hands of this game few weeks ago, and really grew in me as I progressed through. IMO a must play for every RPG lovers.
I really hope you touch 1 million subs by December this year. This review was amazing man and I remember playing this game as a kid, now I feel like playing it again
ProJared has had one of the greatest redemption arcs in CZcams history, and I'm glad he put it behind you. Damn near cried watching this video due to your body language and what you saying about FFVI as a whole.
It is not really redemption if you didn't do anything wrong, redemption would be getting to this point after actually having done what people said he did.
@Kuma he said he's innocent now
What have he done
@@Casperwinde his ex-gf tried to ruin his name with false accusations of something that i don't remember exactly. Everyone sided with her while he claimed he was innocent. @Jaime Cruz if you don't mind me asking though what has he done that made him not innocent of course he did some dumb things but not something irredeemable
This video was so poignant, intimate, and emotional. I havenât ever played a Final Fantasy game, but have always wanted to. After seeing this, Iâm going to find a way to finally start playing the series, starting with this one. Thanks, Jared for such an amazing video
You will NOT be dissapointed.
Castlevania GBA and NDS games are better tho
I uhhh once had an SNES emulator that had this game on it called Zsnes or something
don't tell anyone I said that though
well said.. FF6 is the best game in the series
the classic playstation 1-2 games are all on sale on switch. Got my copy of 9 10 12, missed out on beating them growing up. Finally have the chance to play it again.
I always liked how the goddess statues were introduced, even though it was late in the third act of the world of balance. I felt that it fit considering that magic had been absent from the world for 1k years. It made sense how a group of people who are charged with keeping the secret kept the secret.
Hey! You uploaded a new review (Bravely Default II)... but fuck that, I want to watch THIS video again. CZcams Comments may no longer affect you after all of this time, but you should know... I'm age 37. This video captures the experience of being a young man in the 1990s and being blown away on all levels by this game as chapter after chapter peel away towards the rushing conclusion. Anyway, I'm eating a sandwich at work right now... watching this on my $1600 gaming laptop. I can't imagine where I'll be or what I'll be doing once or twice a year between now and the day I die... because, hey - @ProJared you made a video I will watch until the day I die. Congratulations!

This is a pristine example of how Jared was wrong about the GBA transition being worse than the SNES. I can't stand that kind of goofy crap when the GBA and original Japanese version were far more subtle.

Classic Ted Woolsey
@@Morgil27 I think he's just more used to the SNES translation that the GBA script still feels foreign to him. I feel both scripts including the original Japanese script should all be compared to see which version handled each line better.

idk mang, that one line aside (which is whatever, Locke is supposed to be flustered and spilling his spaghetti a bit) one look at 22:14 compared to 39:27, and it really comes across like the GBA version is literally spelling everything out, just in case the dumb babies in the audience are feeling lost.
Nearly a year removed to watch this video again. I love watching people loving video games. Jared's passion comes through in this video so much, possibly my favorite video from him.
I've recently received this game's pixel remaster version on steam as a gift from an old special friend.
He told me how special this game was to him, and that he remembered that I was the reason for him being able to play it due to me letting him borrow my gameboy advance at the time.
I was touched, and then memories of the good ol' days came flooding back of when we spent our days talking about the games we would play, playing together as a duo or even in a group, and sharing our own stories and experiences with the games that the others haven't played and convincing them to play them to talk even more things about those games. It was the purest form of joy and friendship. It was something that I know that I could never feel again. But having those memories is enough for me to appreciate the life that came after it, and that reason enough will always make me hold on to those memories even more. Then I realized how special those days were because what we are now, was due to those special moments.
Gaming is our way to appreciate life when we find ourselves having a hard time with it, way back then up until now, and most likely even beyond.
Thank you Final Fantasy VI. Thank you for giving me something pure that would last me a lifetime.
My guy is killing it on this comeback tour of his.
"So Jared, what's the best song from the FFVI soundtrack?"
Jared: *"Yes"*
But really, this was an excellent review. It's obvious this game is very special to you, yet you can still acknowledge its flaws. As someone who hasn't played any FF games _[pause for shocked gasps],_ watching your analysis of each game have really made me interested in the world they have created. The tone for this review was very fitting to the tones of this game, I noticed: Serious with moments of levity and humor, and not afraid to tackle the heavy stuff. You've come a long way, Jared. Not to get all mushy, but you really are appreciated. Thank you for your content, and just being a cool dude in general. Until the next video, see ya next time.
Also, the best song is Dancing Mad. Not just the game, but out of all Final Fantasy games. I would say that Corridors of Time from Chrono Trigger is a better song for me personally, but that is largely due to it's personal significance
Will you be covering the ff7 remake when it drops?
I havent played this game since I was 11 in the mid 90s. I got the Android version and played it through. It absolutely holds up. I even got goosebump when hearing the castle theme. This game has got to be one of the best ever....right behind Zelda.
Holy cow... the second that music hit. Goosebumps. This game defined an era of my childhood. It will always be at the top of my all time list.
How many times did he say "Best song in the game". The music is that good

"This game was made a year after Final Fantasy 5, which blows my mind!"
8 minutes later:
"This game is buggy as shit!"
Correct
I mean, they still must have worked their asses off to get as much into there as they did in that year, buggy or not.
@@ShadowDragoon004 p
Yup. But consider and compare to today where FF games take forever to make ⊠and almost none of that is code time. This game took a year. It could've used another four weeks to work out the bugs in the code, but the story was done, the art was done, the music ⊠all of it was done.
Celes was my comfort character for the longest time
What a great video. I almost stood up and cheered when shadows music came on, and I legit got chills during the part when you talk about the opera scene.... gattam Ultros man
Knights of the old republic 2 was that game for me. Changed my life, and even though I haven't actually played it in over ten years, I still remember conversations in that game vividly. Where I'm at in my life right now I've really been wanting to play it again. Great video man! Hope all is well.

As soon as I heard "Best song in the game," I knew the running gag for this episode.
That's why my final rating for Terra, is a best girl out of 10.
Woah there Sabin is way bustier.
*Celes
I like Celes a lot, but to me she just a safe choice. She's brave, fiery and badass, with a soft side. Terra in contrast is a huge bag of flaws, which is something very unique for a main character (in a serious setting). She is carried through half of the story until she finds a great answer to Kefka's nihilism, telling him that life is worth living because of the little joys in it, that is how life is, it doesn't need a grand reason or a point, and that is such a real answer. Besides, Terra becomes the foster mom of an entire village and from that point she goes from a reserved/afraid girl to a sweet, confident pacifist. Like Jared said, you choose your answer out of the main cast, Terra's arc touched me the most on a personal level, and that's why for me, she will always be best girl.
Best in the game? Absolutely. But in the entire series? I dunno, if you include off-series games, I must disagree.
Terra is basically the true Female Cloud. Sheâs best girl.
Jared, you have become in icon to the world. You've been through hell and back many times and you came out stronger each time. This video in my opinion is more than just the next iteration in your Final Fantasy reviews. I'll never forget your face after the debut. This is the video you are known for now. Be proud of it just like everyone here is. Thank you for all you do man.
Tyler Hale Next thing you know he has The Corona Virus. I actually ask what he might suffer tremendously from next. This guy really needs a warm hug. I feel bad for him.

Iâve had to watch this video a few times now because he does such a good job of recapturing the feeling of playing this game for the first time that my mind wanders off and all of a sudden Iâm vividly day dreaming about Christmas time in my parents house 30 years ago and my phone feels like a SNES controller in my hands
"Picks up copy of FF6"
Me: "Is this loss?"
And then PJ says FF6's theme is loss. So there.
N o
I dont really agree with the idea that FF6 is about loss. Its basically about some crazy clawni going nuts basically. SPOILER I think FF7 did that part better. A person dies "Whether you liked that person or not doesnt matter" point is everyone has a different reaction to it. And that part feels very real and believable. But i in general think FF6 is the bottom FF game in my view. But everyone has a different opinion which is fine though!
I II II I_
@@kejiri3593 The game is about loss because it's a recurring theme. It's kind of hard to argue against that. All except a couple of characters are struggling with some form of it, not only the loss of a loved one through death but of control over one's body/destiny, familial separation (spoilers: Relm is Shadow's daughter, and Gau's father is, if I remember right, the crazy old man), the loss of one's sanity or moral compass, and one's own will to live. Failure, such as the failure to prevent Kefka from destroying the world, is another form of loss, as is feelings of loss and survival guilt after a genocidal event. A number of sci-fi books and movies have explored the unique pain and despair of surviving a nuclear holocaust or an analog to one, and I see FFVI as following in the footsteps of such works, though it's certainly no Quiet Earth or Road Warrior.

When you like something so much, you see everything perfect or at least try to stay as much positive as possible.
From the artwork, to the gameplay, to the soundtrack. That's why he keeps saying "the best soundtrack of the game" to every one of them; is because that's what he feels. Is an indirectly way of saying how much he loves this game.
