    @10:58 For anyone with a 1500 X1/9 (1979-on), please note that this owner has purchased and installed an aftermarket distributor.
    Because it has a larger vacuum capsule, to fit properly and give the widest rotational swing to adjust timing, the stock Bosch distributor's body should be positioned so that the vacuum advance capsule is more or less at the 8-9 o'clock position when viewing from the vantage point of this presenter's video, ie, looking back thru the distributor access panel opening in the firewall. If you position the stock Bosch distributor's body as the presenter has positioned the aftermarket distributor, you will have difficulty rotating the distributor body to get the correct timing. Another reference point: when correctly oriented, the stock distributor cap will position the ignition wire ports so that they are all "aimed" at cylinder #4 (flywheel end of the engine).

      Good notes here. I forgot about the differences between distributors. Thank you for pointing that out

    When you do the fuel hoses you might check the flow pattern on those injectors. They don't like to sit dormant full of gas and can clog up.

    I am 6' I like to drive straight arm and still I could not get my hand round the bottom of the wheel when shifting.
    I fitted a smaller steering wheel and kept the standard rack, way cheaper than fitting a quick rack.
    I shortened the shift lever 1", and fitted a Tillett seat, like from a Lotus Elise Cup.
    My eyes are now level with the top of the wing mirror.
    I could be wearing a full face helmet and the car could have a roll cage and there would still be 2" headroom.
    I also deleted the centre console and made a new centre panel to include the electric window switches.
    They used to say taller drivers should avoid these cars... but a shell seat on custom runners will put your ass on the carpet and your head will be more within the roll hoop.
    Not sure if you got a late production model there, or not but these have deeper floor pans than the series 1.

    Having owned two X1/9’s… a 1978 1300 and an 1981 1500 … I have to say that that exhaust note was horrible, neither of my cars sounded that droney… and neither of my cars rode that rough, either they were both very compliant… So either the roads in your neighbourhood are like a Warzone or your coil overs are too stiff…. I hope they have some adjustment on them. Otherwise you’re going to be visiting your chiropractor daily…..
    All that being said, I hope I didn’t sound too negative. I think what you’re doing is fantastic. I miss my little X1/9s so much… especially the 1500…. It was my favourite car that I ever owned, and I only sold it because I moved to Australia from Canada…. I wanted to actually ship it over, but I just couldn’t at the time… I’m 6‘5” And with the roof off my head, stuck out several inches above the roof line, but that just means I had more wind through my hair. it was the best handling car I’ve ever owned, truly a road legal go kart. keep doing what you’re doing buddy you are living out my dream

      @@GarageTimeTV oh wow, quick reply! lol. My favourite modification I ever did was replacing the steering wheel with a Momo mod 27. this was back in the mid 90s before the Internet, so I actually had to order it directly from Italy. because of my height, I needed a smaller diameter steering wheel to be able to drive it with the roof on which was necessary in Canadian winters. by the way, they are great cars in the snow all the weight over the drive wheels and so light… they stop on ice really easily. But the Momo wheel was fantastic covered in Alcantarra. I wish I had put the original wheel back on and kept it to put on my racing Sim here. I highly recommend.

    Great job on the video. I am dealing with a timing issue after I developed a miss/rough engine fearing the timing belt jumped a tooth. At 9:44 to 10:12 ish I'm getting kind of confused with the video after you provided the "stock" flywheel photo. I know it was a reference photo for us and it showed that the engine was 0° (TDC). It seemed irrelevant at first but then you comment that you're now set up at 10° BTDC and the cam pully is now lining up perfectly with the reference pointer on the bracket. So my question is what is the camshaft pointer truly referencing 0° or 10 BTDC°? If its the opposite answer I thought it was, then I have wasted a ton of time lining the reference marks with no real success yet lol. Hope you can straighten me out.

    • @GarageTimeTV
      @GarageTimeTV  Před 9 měsíci

      Let me see if I can clarify.
      The picture was for reference as to what to look for. The manual calls for the engine to be 10 degrees BTDC (Behind top dead center). So if you line up the mark on the flywheel at the “10” and have your rotor pointed at #4 you are set correctly.

    • @GarageTimeTV
      @GarageTimeTV  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@shagette if you set it to 0 and everything lines up, you did not jump teeth. When you have the 10 degree mark lined up, the timing marks will be just before the pointers. I like to rely on the flywheel mark over the pointers. The pointers get bent or moved over time (look at mine as an example, it was bent like crazy).

  • @peterelvery
    @peterelvery Před 9 měsíci

    You kept saying "10 degrees behind top dead centre" when the markings on the flywheel are BEFORE top dead centre.
    Why is this?

    • @GarageTimeTV
      @GarageTimeTV  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Behind and before mean the same thing. Top dead center is at 0

    • @peterelvery
      @peterelvery Před 9 měsíci

      @@GarageTimeTV 🤦🏻‍♂️ Love the channel but no.
      10 degrees behind TDC is 10 degrees after TDC.
      Before is ahead. Behind is arrear.
      The car behind you does not arrive before you.
      It'll be October 1 in Atlanta an hour before it's Octiber 1 in DFW because Texas is an hour behind Georgia.
