    We have a Highlander and an Outback. Both over 10 years old. We are looking at the Grand Highlander but prices seem astronomical compared to what we paid for our cars 10 years ago.

    good job on the report - I like the varied use. Consider its completely flat during the test. Lowering the Hiway speed to 65 will save about 3mpg.

    Solid test. Winter temps, flooring it for a few acceleration runs I'm not surprised it got 2 less than the EPA estimate which is much lower speeds than typical interstate. Have a similar sized vehicle 2018 AWD Enclave we get 24-29 on highway with about 800lbs of payload depending on headwinds and speed. Usually about 25. The hybrid system doesn't do anything on the highway except add power when needed on this GH and physics all demand the same power to push these vehicles.

    I think if you would have put Premium it would have gotten 30 miles per Gallon. I noticed my hybrid exceeds the mileage when I put premium.

    Sweet ride. I want a hybrid though for the mpg.
    Loved my 22 sienna but didn’t have a need for it.

      The hybrid engine loses about 100hp but you gain about 10mpg

      @@offtheshelfrides yup. Crazy! But it’s so smooth. AWD to boot if wanted.
      Toyota did great with the GH.

    winter grade fuel plus 10% ethanol is most likely to blame for the lower then Epa number. Wish my Subaru Ascent could be within .3 most times im over 1mpg under the computer. If i did that same route with the Ascent I would see only around 20mpg

    Own a GH Platinum Max. After 5000 miles we average 24.4. This includes 1500 highway miles at 75 MPH typical. It has remained steady at this number from day one. Not what EPA claims but I don’t care. Pretty good for a big car with great power. Our 2019 Hybrid Hylander also got around 24 but not near as powerful or fun to drive. My most annoying thing is the “Miles to Empty” read out Will say 50 miles to empty and you only need 7-8 gallons to fill up which means there is still 9-10 gallons in the tank considering Toyota shows a 17.2 gallon tank for this car

      Also have the same car. Thanks for confirming my disgust with the car. This is the most stressful part. When hauling a family on a road trip and constantly seeing the DTE approaching 20 or less and gas light comes on, then only pumping 10-11 gallons! I am hoping Toyota will fix the sensors or be honest with their fuel economy. I don't want to assume I can drive another 100 miles after 0 miles from DTE.

      got the same one - I cant get above 24mpg, but we live in the mountains, with mostly short trips. The issue with the gastank is explained by Toyota, because of the Turbo Toyota decided to leave roughly 4 gallons in the tank. Per T its because they dont want the Turbo system be exposed to sediments possibly getting pulled up.

    I would like to see you do this same test on thr GH Hybrid Limited. I specifically want to see the other engine that isnt the Max. That engine has EPA claims in the mid 30s per gallon. Wondering what reality is though.

  • @willlee6234
    @willlee6234 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Yes EPA est doesn’t seem to be as conservative as what they gave other Toyota vehicles like the rav4. Most GH owners are getting lower than EPA numbers…

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  Před 5 měsíci

      I'm sure some of it is weather(temp, gas additive, etc) also. Warmer Temps tend to increase mpg, so maybe spring to fall they might be able to hit those numbers

    • @reality-warp
      @reality-warp Před 5 měsíci

      EPA numbers are also rated at 60 mph for highway, with my Corolla it's like a 3-5 mpg difference between driving at the speed limit and 5 over, and I expect that will apply for the GH even more when I get mine because it's so much larger

      I lived in Florida, have a gas engine GH and I can’t get more than 17,8 mpg’s average, after 2K miles. But I can squeeze over 300 miles between fill ups

  • @ajimmy19

    The real one with road stop and go and rough road, 5 passengers and incline road is 17mpg. Believe me

    Put 5,000 miles on it and run the test again. I would bet the mileage exceeds the estimates.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Possibly, but it did already have over 3K miles on it. I am pretty sure the cold weather is mostly the reason.

    I have the platinum hybrid i max. Getting 25mpg. But i can only fill the gas up to like 13 gallon. Which is stuiped. My range after a fill up is 340miles. Should be closer to 400mile range if its really 17gallon tank.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  Před 3 měsíci

      Yea, this seems to be a real issue. A lot of comments complaining about the gas tank size.

  • @emidyl24
    @emidyl24 Před 3 měsíci

    hmmm, this is pretty much hwy mileage, not anywhere near combined realistic results and not any stops through the towns YMMV, but appreciate the effort. Keep in mind the hybridMax is not made for mileage, thats the forte of the regular hybrid version. MAX versions as in the trucks is for power specifically and have not been meeting its EPA figures. It is a great vehicle, no one touches that space, too bad the wait here in canada is 12-14 months.

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  Před 3 měsíci

      I actually drive through 2 towns on the 1st 50 miles, then those same 2 towns on the way back, also drove a loop through each town during each half of the trip. Multiple stop lights and stop signs. 20 miles of in town driving, 20 miles of Interstate drive. Yes, 60 miles of the trip is 60 mph highway, that's how it is here in the Midwest. Open roads and highways driving 20-30 miles to get to major towns for errands.

    a full tank range is only 323 miles ??? Something is not right with the range/capacity! 17.5 gallons - 2.5 gallons reserved for hybrid = refilling capacity should be at least 15 gallons or 14 gallons ... 14 gallons x 26 miles (per Toyota book) = 364 miles! but a full tank is only giving 323 mile range is not good!

    • @offtheshelfrides
      @offtheshelfrides  Před měsícem

      There are a lot of comments here about that same thing. I'm not sure what the deal is, some people that own it say it has to have a bigger reservoir than a couple gallons, like 4-5

      I do give details about the test and more info about the vehicle also. Yes, I could just say this is what we're going to do, here is the result, then people would complain saying I made it up, I don't have any proof etc...you can just skip to the end if you want. Thanks for watching
