- Today's SoCraftastic video is a craft kit review! I'm testing a glass bead making kit for beginners by Diamond Tech Crafts. It's the Fireworks Beginner's Essentials Glass Beadmaking Kit - complete with a flame torch for making lampwork beads! I've made my own jewelry before but never the actual glass beads via lampworking. Will this kit work or end up as a fail?! #SoCraftastic

Hi everyone! Happy Sunday!! I hope you enjoy this glass bead making craft kit. It was a lot of fun to test!!
Thank you so much to all of you who are watching! I hope your weekend is going well.
See you in the next video!
â„ïž Sarah
I hope your weekend is going well too
I know you are feeling a bit burnt out from CZcams, but I just wanted to let you know that you are such an amazing person! You donât need CZcams unless it is bringing you happiness. You have so many amazing attributes and I know you could do anything you put your mind to!!! Love ya đ
Oh my god! What a crap kit! You need dydimium glasses! No other glasses are safe! Please dont make beads again without it is damaging to your eyes! Also when coating the mandrel with beadrelease, dip and slowly pull out. You get a nice even coating :) i would not recommend this kit to anyone, go do a course with someone experienced.
P.s green glass is made with copper, so for this bead, which actually turned out pretty cool!, you worked to hot and burned the glassđ im actually surprised how good your beads turned out without some experienced help. Still do a few hours with an experienced tutor. They can teach you the right technique :) and it really get easier with time.
Agree with the others abd also would like to recommend ALWAYS wearing clothes that cover up your body when working with hot or other dangerous stuff. It is a good precaution since it adds an extra layer of safety before you actually get hurt, AND if it would go through, you could still strip it off to get rid of a lot of the danger. Of course no clothes that could get caught somewhere easily.
(Imagine tripping somewhere or accidentally tipping something ... ouch :))
Ive been a professional glass blower for a while now, I own my own borosilicate production studio , and I actually started on a kit just like this one about 11 years ago.
nice... i wanted to buy a boro starter kit but with a kiln it'd be over 1000$ to get into it...i bought all the stuff from this kit today for under $50(except the torch since i already have one) just to see if i like working with glass... I've done quite a bit of welding so it'll be weird to work with something as fragile as glass
Good on you man :)
I started on the same, I want to just buy a new torch, marvel, mandrels and shit cause I still got glass.
this makes me super happy! iâm looking into all this and some folks are saying you need sooo much to start!
As a lampworker, I would advise wearing better protective clothing and sitting down as you have better control over the glass and mandrel. You can also make your own stringers by grabbing the heated glass with pliers and pulling it out until it is your required size, let cool gently and then you can use it. Some times by double dipping the bead release works better and you can remove them easier, but other than that you did a great job for the first time.
Ps. Some glass rods change colour depending on were they are held in the flame and on whether you pull the bead out then reheat before it gets to cold to shatter. Hope this helps and you keep trying it.
I cringed at the outfit and lack of gloves.
Ashley Nebel, I personally can't wear gloves while lamp working and don't know many that can because it's hard to control the mandrel and the thinner rods but if others can wear them that's great.
I'd say she should hold the glass and mandrills a little further up as well, (again, better control of the materials) and IDK if it'd help but maybe try waving the glass in and out of the flame quickly rather than poking it in to warm it up? Works best for me, hope she does come back to it!
No tank tops while glass working learnrf that the hard way in college
As another fellow lampworker, I agree with Belinda. You need the proper safety equipment, proper non-flammable surfaces so if hot glass flies all over, it won't start a fire. Glass work is very dangerous if you've never done it before. Watch some CZcams videos on glass bead making so you can learn more techniques and learn how to keep yourself safe.
I appreciate watching someone that doesn't know what they are doing and what mistakes you make that is the learning process and then what improvements you learned along the way tweaking your work area different tools and strategies. Thanks for sharing this story.
When you said the glasses with the kit weren't good at first I thought you meant the glass rods and I was really confused.
I do lamp working as a hobby, and these kind of bead kits got my interests peaked! I now create my own glass sculptures, and it is so much fun!!
Glass can have lead, selenium, sulphur and copper in it that can cause colour reactions like you got with your green and blue. It's one of the really cool things about glass :-)
omg I havenât watched your videos in so long. You were literally my whole childhood! You taught me so much with duct tape, polymer clay, and even drawing. đđ
Welcome back! Thank you for watching. đđ
Wow another kit testing. Thank you Sarah for giving us such quality content in quarantine. Love from India.
That sounds so sarcastic lmao
Lmao
@@sammieWithTheAutism I dont know why. But it wasn't sarcasm. I genuinely like her kit testing videos.
The strawberry one looks cute, but I love the blue-ish one!
I got a microwave kiln this past Christmas and glass work has been SO fun!! This video has given me some inspiration đ another something new to start!!!
Oo awesome! That would be a fun one to try! Glad you're enjoying the video. Thank you for watching! đ
I love the little orange blob!!! Too precious!
Hi Sarah! I grew up watching you, and always remember watching you while doing my chemotherapy sessions. I was diagnosed with lupus at 12 (now 17) and you were one of the few youtubers who helped me through that time. I just wanted to let you know, because I absolutely love your content. Iâm glad I rediscovered you! ÂŽÍ á” `Í âĄÂ°âÌ
Hi! I'm honored that I could be a part of helping you through such a tough time in your life. It's great to see you back!
Iâd be way to scared to try that kit. Fire and me donât mix đ
Definitely a bit scary! đ
I've been blowi g glass for 2 years now and I LOVE seeing new people getting into the craft!
Some tips. Wearing longer sleeves can protect your arms from some of those hot glass chips that can pop off when you are learning. You can the tips of your glass rods in an old toaster oven to slowly warm up the ends to prevent the thermal shock. Keep it up and keep having fun!
I absolutely LOVE that you test out these interesting kits for us. Personally, I am always looking for some kind of craft or art project to do, but don't have the budget to buy a kit and have it be a flop. I also hate knowing that a kit might really be awesome, but can't take the risk to try it out. Although you always are cheery and light-hearted, which I LOVE; you always take the project seriously and give it a fair evaluation. I will keep watching for as long as you keep making these videos! Please don't listen to the negative folks that are just cranky and mean. You DO provide valuable content. Please keep it up! Love and Hugs!
In school I took a metals class and we got to make glass beads on one of the projects and it was really fun. Iâm super excited to watch this video!!!!
Thank you for showing me this video. I make jewellery and wanted to see how expensive and hard it would be to make my own glass beads so I was really happy when I found your video as you'd never done it before. Which is exactly what I needed. I have big issues with making mistakes so when you watch tutorials of people doing amazing work and can really put you off trying or carrying in because of mistakes. So it's nice to see you try and make a few mistakes before your last beads which were lovely. The strawberry was my favourite too. But I actually also really like the bead from the first try, it was just pretty and unusual shape so I really liked it. Looking forward to watching your other videos as I like to try out lots of different crafts too
As an experienced flame worker, you also need to put more clothes on or you are going to end up with burns on your arms and legs. Hopefullym you are not wearing sandals!
No, I was wearing boots! Thank you for the advice. During my research I had seen demos both with people wearing long, tight sleeves & some who were in tshirts. Since it was very hot outside I personally went with less fabric.
Can't wait to try this kit
For being brand new you are so knowledgeable!! I love all the terms youâre using
My Favorite is all of them!!! I Absolutely Love it! Amazing Job.
Thank you for the video. Very interesting!!! I love it.
AMAZING i love them all!
Awesome! I love them all I'm a glass beadaholic lol . I really like the strawberry đ though! Thank you for your videos. I'm thinking about maybe getting this kit .
Looking so cute!
TOTALLY IMPRESSED Girl Keep It Upđđ»
Love this video! This channel reminds me so much of my own!
Hi Sarah, hope you're well! I've been waching your videos for years and just wanted to say that I think it is so great that you're venturing into more unknown and perhaps daunting crafts/projects! I really enjoy this content and it is much appreciated. And I have always admired your patience with all craftsđ The light blue bead is my favourite, I think it is really pretty! xx
Ahhhhh my FAVORITE series of yours...Craft testing kits!!! Will watch this later tonight, just had to comment that I'm so happy you're keeping up on this series đ đ đ
I still have quite a few left under the bed! Haha Thank you! đ
Im grabbing this kit for my 40th birthday this December :) can't wait
So glad you are doing bead making, one of my favorite things â€ïž
It was a fun new experience! đ
Love the video! Thinking about buing the kit for myself, and it was great to see another begginer use it!
I have been enjoying watch you do all the arts u do. I want to thank u for your videos. These a amazing.
This was so cool to watch. I live in an apartment right now and do t have space to try this but there is a glass store in my town that offers lessons, I thought it would be to hard but after watching this video I think I will give the lessons a try... when itâs safe to have them of coarse.
Hey girl you get props for just taking this on!!! I do like đ the little beads. They were cute for a beginner!!
This was really cool!! You did SO good esp w ur first try! Great job!
I love those blue beads!!
That was so cool I love all your videos . And you are an awesome youtuber. đđ€
very cool!!
What a lovely persona you presentđ„°. Thanks for the video it convinced me to give the kit a try. Sending Peace love and happiness from Mexico đČđœ
Thx! I always wanted to try making glass lamp work beads. I didn't know you could buy kits for that.
The strawberry one was my fav. Also your hair looks so cute in a bun!â€ïž
Ahhhh I grew up watching you and I was looking for a glass bead making video and I clicked on this without realizing whoâs channel it was ahhh yayy made my day
never knew these existed......thanks for being the bead test crafting babe
I really like them all!
I think it's great you test these products out as a first-time user without knowing how to create the product. Thanks for doing these.
Loveee the strawberry!
Great video. I would never have the patience to make glass beads. You did great!
Okay but we love a procrastination queen đ .
What the kit doesn't mention is, you have no way to annealing these beads without a small kiln. Annealing slowly heats, holds, and cools the beads which removes the thermal stress from the glass, reducing the chances of bead breakage.
I did a 2 day course on bead making. Quite some time devoted to safety and to proper use of equipment, annealing process etc. No way would I do this at home.
I havent watched it yet but iam soooooooooo sure that it is amazing! Love u socraftasticâ€ïž
Totally impressed you even attempted this much less get the results you did on first try. They look great. I wonder if you can use this to make those little glass animals/figurines people sometimes collect. I hope you stick with this and expand your skill set.
Gosh, the whole time you were doing the heating my heart was racing...geeze! I really liked the two red beads and the light blue one. You got a good result for a first time doing them. Well done!
Wow! I have a new respect for the ones who make lampwork beads! You did great and this did not look easy.
The strawberry was amazing for a beginner to attempt!! đđ I liked the turquoise bead the most!! So pretty!! đđ This kit would give me anxiety attacks!! đđđ€Ł
I bought this kit back when I was in middle school.... almost 10 years later and haven't used it yet đ
same for my books xD
Id love to have this, if I could afford it id use it right away! đ€Żđ„Ž
I like the little flame looking one
Thank you for making this video! Iâm trying this art in glass myself and itâs comforting to know Iâm not alone in finding it a challenge. Iâd like to help in telling you I found soaking your beads in the blue Dawn dish soap with the water helps in the release of the beads. Have fun!
i love you it turned out amazing happy sunday!
Wow that looks super hard! I would have given up! You did a good job!
Ohhhh, I haven't watched it yet, but I can't wait! I am starting a DIY channel!đ My first diy will be uploaded next week!

I like how the strawberry looks and even if they grey was an accident, I love the uniqueness of it. Adds to the beauty
I love the strawberry, and of course the strawberry dress is amazing! I wish I had any occasion to wear one! Lol
Who else loves Sarah like me!!! Sheâs the best person ever on CZcams!!!! Love you Sarahđđđđđđč
I love that strawberry bead! You did so good! The leaves look amazing, I'm seriously impressed, great job! Keep going ^^ đ
I love the strawberry! You did an amazing job. Im just went out and bought the same kit and am about to do it as well ..wish me luck! Lol
Strawberry for sure. This was funđ
Just being waiting for your video
Hi Sarah đ I love the strawberry! That (what did you call it, wan-key) bead turned out beautifully. It's so unique and amazing. You are an awesome crafter.
This was so cool. Thank you. I pick the strawberry. I think it's pretty.
Holy crap I remember youuu! I used to watch you all the time I when I was in elementary school!
When I saw the stawberry, I thought it was a carrot. But after you said it was a stawberry saw it, you did a good job on it Sarah.
I love your videos. Also please do more Create this book.
With those particular glass rods I have found propane rather than mapp can help keep the colors more true
Good to know. Thanks!
i like the light blue
I love your videos!
Thank you!!
Your welcome!
I appreciate that you are a beginner, using beginner craft kits. Too often, people with expertise use technical jargon or they don't think about how their phrasing can be confusing. I bought a beginner crochet kit years ago, where the illustrations were in black and white, and I got really frustrated because none of the instructions made any sense to me.
Those beads look SO cool! Sorry I couldn't watch sooner, I was on a hike (with a mask :) )
I love your vids
Thank you!
You are awesome
I'm a new subscriber. I must say you are gutsy to do it on camera đ
I didn't realize it was so hard. Bead makers seam to make it look easy. This was informative. tks
It is easy once you know what you're doing. Go watch my video about perfect donut beads... it literally takes 3 minutes to do one.
Ok, I just finished watching it completely and so glad you went out to get better welding shades to protect your eyes and you also mentioned the Didymiums!!! Awesome!!! AND.... you also were working in the garage over cement and not setting it up in the room you first started in!
You did an amazing job making glass beads for your very first time and especially without an instructor!!! Impressive!!
Most of your beads cracked simply because you didn't melt them down fully. You were probably concerned with fusing them to the mandrels as I could see you were timid with introducing the glass into the flame in the first place. But you made some beads and that was a really good first attempt!
I don't think you can completely clean the bead release from the hole, as you are basically fusing the glass to the release, which is basically just a wet clay or a clay slip.
For under $100 I think this is a really good investment to get started. But spending more time watching and learning from others would be the only thing I'd really suggest to help you lay the glass down smoother and to learn how to melt it completely down so it doesn't crack as easy.
Thanks for sharing your experience! You're welcome to come watch me play with glass anytime I go LiVE! I'll probably mention you soon and this kit and talk about bead making with a LiVE Demo!
-Blessings to you!
Dan "TheGlassman"
Loving the strawberry! Itâs almost iridescent..
Thank you for the video! I am a beginner and watching you made me feel like I want to give it a try! BTW, you bought it cheap...on Amazon it is $130!
I'd love to see you do this again with more experience
I haven't watched one of your videos in a while.( sorry, not for any reason) anyway So glad to see you pop up in my reccomended today. and I've always been soo interested in glass blowing, glass beads etc.. that kit really does seem awesome. Just seems like it might take A LOT of practice and yea for only your second day at it. I'd say that Strawberry is a TOTAL WIN!! super cute. the imperfections give it character. If it could handle it I'd throw it on a chain by itself, that b cute!
I am early!!! Love your videos!!!!!
Yay!! Thank you!!
I like the cyan.
OMG you would look so good in pigtail braids ahhhh
Wait what... When did she ever have braids or pigtails in this entire video lol
She didnât. Theyâre just saying the style would look good on her.

Good job on your first try!! I like the blue ones. What strawberry dress??
đfancy seems to be super interesting for me
Much respect to those who make glass beads. Live the strawberry bead. Cherish that one!
