    Quick summary, HD600=Old style,dependable and smooth sounding, whereas HE4XX= fresh, large soundstage and dynamic sounding. I don't own both of them but own other cheaper ones.

    I'm thinking HD600 for female vocals and acoustic recordings and HE 4XX for gaming and electronic
    Gotta experiment more with orchestral to see which soundstage I prefer

    My 4xx arrived without sound on one side , i contacted massdrop and they sent me another pair and luckily this one was working fine . I don't live in the US , so it took awhile to get delivered to me . This is my 1st set of planars , so i was wondering how do they compare to other planars ?

    • @chuckolatte600
      @chuckolatte600  Před 5 lety

      The "planar sound" is mostly noticeable in the extremes of the spectrum IMO. In the 4XX, I find that the bass has that really nice texture familiar to planars. Treble has a similar sweetness to it as well. Although the 4XX are somewhat v-shaped. Soundwise, they are a pretty formidable budget planar HP

      @dnd6379 Před 5 lety +4

      Yea, mine after 6 months started going up and down in volume on left and right drivers randomly. Massdrop support was slow to respond and contradicting (one agent said they can refund me on a different card I used and the other one said they can't do that, but they didn't understand they can't refund me on a prepaid card), so I went for a replacement which the 2nd unit was defective as well with one of the screws going loose and I needed to pay 50€ to even get them (the 2nd pair I mean) so I ain't buying from massdrop ever again. So in the end I just localy bought HD 650 and loving them.

    My 4xx uses a 3.5mm at the cups. The newer are 3.5mm the old ones are 2.5mm apparently. I also change out my pads on both of these headphones... well on my 58x and 650... this video makes me want to get 600s too though. Dekoni pads help with comfort and clamp on both styles in my opinion.

      1. My bad, my 4XX are 3.5 mm too lol.
      2. Get them. They're worth it. Plus, this could be your last chance to snag them brand-new since they'll likely be put out of production relatively soon.
      3. I haven't tried the Dekoni pads, but I'm kinda reluctant to do so due to that change in sound.

      @&Ö& Paneristi Those are my go-tos for going out too, in fact I'm using them to watch this video rn. But I'm always constantly amazed how good the momentums are for being wireless buds, not that they're close to my home set up which is some 6XXs powered by a monolith THX 788 balanced amp with two built in balanced dacs in XLR and that is just in a class that's next level, but that's to be expected in a set up with that much literal power in it. But the fact the momentums can give u even just a little taste of that sound in a tiny wireless package that u can wear anywhere all the time is crazy and the fact that Sennheiser does both so well is the reason they r hands down my favorite headphone company despite me having a few other pairs from a decent variety of companies

    I disagree with the Sennheiser HD600 having less comfort, I had both. Sennheiser are way lighter and its easier to forget that you are wearing them, on the other hand, Hifiman pads and headband is slightly better however its heavier and less comfortable overtime.

    Even though they may be called " mid fi", 20 years ago the HD600 was lavished with praise for being hi-fi. Also: I could point out many planars that roll off, starting at 100hz on down. It's not a "dynamic" thing. It's a design thing.

Simply the same as you described about he4xx(which is modded he400i) vs hd600. Perhaps, this is an eternal sound difference between dynamic vs planar worlds.

      @@chuckolatte600 , I tried to equalize the sound of my senh vs he400i with parametric EQs to fit its measured frequency response but it is sound differently anyway. I think the reason for different sound isn't only in the frequency domain but time domain as well. When I listen any planar headphones I feel the same signature and this is not about frequency response, they sound more effortless and opened vs dynamic ones. One opened back planar to another opened back planar could be equalized with 5-7 parametric EQ with not bad matching and actually, EQs gain needed isn't too big. Finally, I found the best sounding EQs preset to me and my friends is HE400i2Harman, which equalize HE400i into Harman's empiric "ideal" headphone response taken here www.innerfidelity.com/content/headphone-measurements-explained-frequency-response-part-one#3Kf2SHs6zb2mmP96.97
