- This is the method I used to learn the Korean Backdash, or KBD, when I started with Tekken 7 and I'm sure it will help you in T8 as well! This guide shows inputs for controller, Japanese ball-top and Korean battop sticks.
- Hry
I watched multiple KBD tutorials recently since I'm relatively new to Tekken and your video was the best by far!
Wow, thanks!!!!
I agree, I literally never knew that the third back input was supposed to be input. I thought I had to go straight back to neutral. Thanks for this thorough guide.
No one that I have watched has mentioned that only the first dash has to have the double back input. I get that it's implied by the KBD inputs themselves, but it was helpful to hear.
I am not new to Tekken and I have watched many KBD videos, yet I find this one the best by far as well. Great tutorial!
I don't even play Tekken but thanks to this video now I know how to KBD
Any plans to play it?
2 minutes video. REALLY GOOD advice on who to practice KBD with. Straight to the point. Thank you.
And thank YOU for the kind comment!
You make the best, straightforward tutorial videos. Thanks!
Thank you SO much!
3 other videos couldnt do it for me. but YOU sir just teached me how to KBD in 5-10 minutes of practice, thank you
Satisfaction guaranteed 👏
ive watched a few tutorials i FINALLY learned it from you thank you so much
So glad I could help!
Tekken 8 training arc can begin with another banger ChrisF video!!!
Thank you!!
I’ll be streaming this so come on by!
@@Chris_F can already count me in!!! Gonna be watching while I practice KBD and finding the T-spot
Step 3 definitely the most important step imo it helps so much it just works
Glad you liked it! Thx for the comment
This is easily the best tutorial on the KBD! Cheers for the tip!
There are a LOT of KBD tutorials out there but hearing you think mine is the best means so much!! Thank you!!
@@Chris_F very clear, concise and to the point 👌🏽
Fantastic guide! Apparently, they've actually made normal backdashing not total garbage in T8, but Korean backdashing is still significantly faster so definitely worth learning. I'm going to try learning the game on leverless, and the shortcuts seems kind of op, so definitely gonna give it a shot when the game releases later today.
Let me know how it goes, and thx!!
how does KBD work on leverless?
@@Kitsurugi I'm no expert, but I've been practicing it a bit now that the game's out. Basically, because back and forward together count as neutral, you can hold back the entire time and time down and forward presses to KBD. The timing is: down then forward pretty fast, pause, repeat. You hold back the whole time. The timing is a bit tricky and I'm sure it will take a lot of practice to optimize.
Yes@@Kitsurugi
I've decided that I'm staying in practice mode until i perfect it at mid speed. So, on a second monitor. Im going to have a movie or anime going while KBS till auto pilot. Move in this game takes a tone of practice.
This was very clear. I can learn this now thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Yes! Chris with the Tekken 8 guides!
You know it!
Thanks man just downloaded T8 haven’t played since T3 gotta relearn everything 😂
Glad I could help!
Finally a guide when someone actually showcases visually how to do it, others just show prompts of commands, gotta be honest also, under ps4 controller i feel its easier to do in Tekken than on ps5 controller, i dont know why.
but very helpful guide thank you.
I always try to make my guides as simple and easy to understand as possible without being too long or too short. I’m really happy that my video was able to help you! Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a kind comment
Thanks as always brother! I’ll start practice it right away! ❤ is there a possibility to have guide for Mishima’s wave dash and electric wave god fist please? Since It’s my first Tekken and I want to play Kazuya and Reina, it would be awesome
My pleasure and good luck!
I’m learning how to play Tekken on hitbox controller so once I figure out Mishima stuff I’ll try to post it
@@Chris_F thank you as always for your job and your kind answers 🙏🏻
Thanks Chris!
You bet!
on an xbox controller you can really hear the click of the sweetspot he mentioned!
Thank you for this I main Bryan and got the game yesterday. its my first tekken game thank you a lot. Would Bryan be counted as as a sway with Nina and Paul? Or should I practice with Nina to get the kbd better?
Bryan is the same as Nina and Paul.
Congrats on getting the game!
I help new players on my twitch stream so please come say hi and ask any questions! Link is in my bio
I'm thinking of buying mayflash f 500 flat arcade stick. Does it do these kinds of moves in Tekken?
I cant do it but maybe one day i can ty for the training video
Yes you can! Believe in yourself and you’ll get it one day with good practice
Nice! Now, how do you combine it with forward, side mouvement?
All you have to do is add a forward dash ir sidestep at the end of any backdash
i finally realize what i was doing wrong on stick this whole time, i inputted down before the down back like i would on EWGF. Also, why do we need to do a normal dash first if the "free back input" allows us to do another back that makes it a dash? Sorry if it sounds confusing
To answer your question: because you need an initial backdash to create space right away
Im having issues with my KBD (ps5 controller). When i KBD from neutral it's always perfect (◀️ ◀️↙️◀️ ◀️↙️⬅️ etc...) but when i do it immediately after dashing forward i start getting random down inputs when i know i'm not hitting down. Comes out as ◀️ ◀️↙️⬇️ or just ◀️ ◀️↙️. Anyone know what the issue is or experienced anything similar?
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about Ps5 controllers from serious fighting game players. Could be your dpad is messed
I though I wash going mental watching to her tutorials.
No one is mentioning the 3 step about finding the sweet spot (tspot). That is to released the d from dB so you get only a b so you get a b input right after dB input. I keep going qcb because I didn't even try to find the sweetspot I thought my controller is broken until I saw this video. Basically you think you are holding b after dB but your not if you watch your hand you'll see that for a slight millisecond you are letting go of back to pressure down snd after that you get qcb. So yeah
Tldr
1-find the sweetspot
2-look at your hand while practicing
Glad I was able to help you with this!
I remember having to digin zaibatsu forums to get this back in 2007
Same! Things have changed a lot
Hi new subscriber, so if i get it correctly first I do back dash then I hold the back button from the back dash I input after that db b?
Yes!
I've seen quite a few videos on KBD and it all looks and sounds simple, but I'm still not getting it right. I'm frustrated, and my thumb is sore 😢
First thing - don’t get frustrated! This is a more advanced technique and you don’t even need it until you get to higher ranks.
I think you’d be much better off learning other things, like watching your replays and practicing punishment.
You can come back to KBD later on!
How did you get your input history to look like that? Mine is in a small box on the left side of my screen
This was made with the demo version so I had to use an input display overlay I found on github
how do u make command history look like that?
This was done with an input mod I found in GitHub I just googled it
Cheers 😊
Thanks for watching!
Have fun with tekken 8 yall!
You too!!
what if it comes out as down input instead of back when i release the stick
That’s not the correct input and it probably won’t come out as a backdash
@@Chris_F is it normal or are there any ways to help with this?
Can we do this moving forward to like a korean front dash or not?
Not possible
What K Lever are you using and what's the tension?
I use a golden lever with medium-light (45) tension
Who would you say has the best and worst backdashes in this game?
Not sure about best (I haven’t tried the whole cast yet) but king has a pretty bad backdash
Is this a complicated shimmy? I dont understand this tech. Im sorry I've only played street fighter but I've always been interested in tekken.
It’s just a really fast backdash. This is used similarly in footsies to bait moves then whiff punish
Ah okay thank you!
Can you give a recordable move to practice the KBD against?
I’m sorry what do you mean by that?
@@Chris_F I want to see if my KBD is fast enough. In practice mode, I want to use the "Repeat Action" option to make the opponent do a move which i can backdash out of to whiff punish.
For example I was practicing with Paul, and had Kazuya as my opponent and had Kazuya do 1,1,2 and try to backdash out of it so I can make it whiff.
But I want some other moves to practice against
which app do you use for the input showing?
This was done on the beta version before release and I don’t think the program I used works anymore, sorry!
I didnt realize i had to hold after the first back dash
Now you know!
@@Chris_Fyou've been my sf6 teacher for a hot minute thank you
Hwoarang 🥋 I'm Ready
I think he got the biggest glow-up in the roster
can someone explain what is the point of the korean back dash?
I’ll cover this in a different video but in a nutshell:
Create space
Create whiff punish opportunities
@@Chris_F thanks
I got to try that back dash normal once, then do the steps.
Let me know if it helped once you try
I hate trying to do this on ps5 controller cuz my ps5 controller dpad is flimsy asf, i get jump input when im not even pressing jump alot of times
Ps5 controllers are pretty bad overall, I think it’s easier on ps4 or a 3rd party controller
@Chris_F yeah im sitting here thinking to myself after over an hour of practicing like "this was never this hard in Tekken 7" because i was better at it in T7 but i was also using a ps4 controller at the time i was playing T7. Im on ps5 doing backsways and getting jumping inputs and everything, im getting inputs im not even pressing lol im gonna just chill out on KBS til i get a better controller
@deedoss5714 def the controllers fault. It’s not even that important until high ranks in Tekken 8 so don’t worry
The biggest issue i have is idk how to hold arcade stick and how to place my fingers
There are a lot of guides on different traditional grips - check those out!
Wheres the t spot on leverless?
I’m working on learning it on leverless myself.
so its only 1 time back back than downback tspot back ?????
Yes!
Bruh wdym only press back back first rep what am i supposed to presed to keep it going??
The second part buffers the other back you need
Nice, tekken stuff for noobies like myself thank you Chris
No worries I’ll try to have more soon! Have fun learning
I can't do it, I'm starting to side step instead of crouch
Don’t worry, this is more of a very high level technique in Tekken 8. Just do what works for you!
Wait how did you change the orientation for the notations is that a setting?
No its not possible to change the orientation. This was made with the demo version using local player vs player mode. I used a notation display program I found on GitHub for this!
@@Chris_F ah ok, thanks for clarifying it. I thought it was possible since I liked how it looked in tekken 7 also nice tutorial for the KBD really helps a lot for me understanding it
@mr.s3380 i preferred the T7 horizontal layout too but oh well. I’m glad it helped you!!
@@Chris_F yeah, guess I have to get used to it. Thanks a lot man
I didnt know Brian_F had a brother!
😎
Hitbox guide?
Working on it! I’m currently working on learning it myself so I need some time
plz bro more tips and trricks
Sure 👍 what kind of things would you like me to make?
Try player 2 side if you’re on keyboadd
Why am I having so much trouble with this on pad 😩
I think it’s a bit tricky on pad but I was able to get it after about 30min of practice. My advice: start SLOW
Holy shit the "tekken spot" is real! this might actually be doable.
I speak from experience when I say it’s real!
keybord>? how
Sorry dude I don’t play keyboard :(
Hello, I am Namco's official Tekken 3 World Champion and Hayashida of HayashidaSTEP.
This is not Korean backdash.
This was found by a Japanese Yamada during the Tekken 2 era and is called the Yamada Step.
It has been called "Yama SUTE" for short for a long time. What is called the Korean back dash is a mixture of the "Lei Wulong" "turn one's back on" and "back step" called the "HAHASTEP" used by "Seok Don-Min" whom I have fought many times.
People in North America call it the Korean Backdash, even if it’s not technically the correct name. When I speak to my Japanese friends I always say 山ステ
"Korean Backdash" may cause misunderstanding. Koreans often misunderstand and claim Korean origins. Items originating from Japan or China are sometimes labeled as originating from Korea. ``YAMA SUTE'' was discovered by a person named ``Yamada'' during ``Tekken 2''. "Yamada" is the person in the house where "Ryan Hart" stayed for a long time when he visited Japan during the "Tekken 3" era."YAMA SUTE = 山ステ"is OK.@@Chris_F
I was really hoping they removed the need to do this in tekken 8 or made it WAY easier because this is the reason I stopped playing t7. I got it down but after awhile it became annoying that I had to do all this just to move and I was getting carpal tunnel which I never had that problem with any other fighting game…what a shame I was looking forward to getting the game
It is absolutely NOT necessary to learn. They made regular backdash much better in this game so you don’t need to KBD outside of high level play. I do think it’s fun to do so I made a video about it for those who want to learn. Just my two cents, but don’t let this stop you from playing T8
wow so they lied
others said u need to be a
korean citizen b4 ur allowed to use this XD
The lies are lies😂
this is hard as hell lmao
Just try to practice a few minutes each time and you’ll get it
Kbd is much easier on player 2 side for keyboard imo
I find 2P side really easy on lever actually!
I thought the t spot was a myth?
This time on myth busters
I set the dummy to walk towards me permanently and compared KBD with normal dash. My conclusion: I cannot widen the gap faster with KBD. It is useless. In fact it only makes you vulnerable to mids.
Check my newest video, I go through this and it is most certainly faster than regular backdash
Also you are vulnerable to all attacks for a brief time when regular dashing but not at all with kbd
@@blknarutoblkluffy3385 No, you are vulnerable to mids and lows when you do kbd and only vulnerable to lows when going for regular backdash.
I really like the movement change they made. KBD is now a reward for the good players instead of being abolutely necessary even at the beginning.
100% agree!
Does this work the same for Hitbox? … yeah I’m that guy.😏
No, I'm wondering the same thing. I haven't played Tekken since like 1-3. I've always used stick. Don't know if Tekken is best on pad, stick, or leverless.
While it kinda works, there are different shortcuts you can use to do this on hitbox that are much more comfortable on the hands.
@sodapopinksi667 I always tell people to play in the controller they like and have FUN using. For most characters, I think leverless is the best. Personally, I prefer my Korean lever for the Mishimas bc wavedashing is too much strain on my fingers when using leverless.
Thanks ill give it another go but it really puts me off Tekken. It's such an unnecessary amount of twitch movements. I'd be under less strain if i learnt a real martial art 🤣
Don’t let it frustrate you! To be honest I don’t even think you need this until you reach high ranks. Don’t let it turn you off! Just my 2 cents
Good guide but it is impossible for me to do it fast on gamepad. And dont tell me to practice more...my thumb hurts, my dpad is almost dead and I am doing it since weeks without success. Stupid ass mechanic. They should have get rid of it and making backdash twice as fast as it is in Tekken. this is a torture for the thumb and gamepad.
It’s ok if you can’t do it! I will say that I don’t think you even need to learn this unless you want to get to the very top ranks. Regular backdash was already buffed quite a lot in Tekken 8!
Yes I know but the normal backdash is still a joke compared to KBD when I watch the pros on stream and somehow orange and redranks doing it like pros... additionally this mechanic destroys masses of dpads. I never had a fighting game where movement is such a problem especially with such an elementary backdash aka KBD. I personally think you need it as well if you are not on highrank in order to get way better whiffpunishes. Might be a reason for me to drop Tekken entirely. Furthermoore it is fucking stupid from the devs to make it so hard on sway characters like Paul compared to Hwoarang where I just have to input a reverse dp motion and repeat it super fast which is freaking easy compared to the clean version. I dont find it balanced that some chars need such high precision compared to others when its about the same movement. But dont get me wrong your video guide is really GOOD with a clean voice and a clean explanation :)
@Jirai-FGC have you considered trying on keyboard or leverless controller?
Not really worth learning anymore imo. With chip damage and recoverable health being a thing. You can’t play the run away game like in T7. A regular backdash will still do the job. It is a fun mechanic to learn tho.
It’s not so much to run away but to cause whiff punishes and then whiff punish
i play with dualshock 4 and able to do backdash since tekken7 but goddamn my fingers hurt in like 30 mins wish i had a stick to play with
Get a haute 42 leverless!
this tech is ruining the game... its so geeky nonsense...
This is pretty common at high level but you don’t need to learn it to be good at the game
half of people use hitboxes now.
Yes and I have a tutorial on this for hitbox too! Check my mishima guide on youtube
