Ferreting 13 (5 ferrets, 100 yard long net, and a crazy spaniel 😂)

  • A morning out on a new permission.
    Decided to try the longnets down one side of a hedge and a few purse nets down the other side where there was rabbit wire.
    Bramble was with us again and for the first time off lead the whole morning. Which was great to see her actually concentrate on what we were doing and what I want her to do.
    It makes it more special now that I can trust her not to disappear over the hill chasing some bird or other scent 😂😂
    She really is starting to come into her own.
    It was also great to give a couple of the young ferrets a go and just to let them wander round a big warren without a lot of nets to disturb.
    If you are interested in buying a long net setup from Mark, who I bought mine from, here is a link to his ebay shop. He also sells purse nets, carry boxes, game bags and a whole host of other gear.

    Just subbed pal
    I shoot; but I'm getting drawn into this ferret and terrier stuff, looks really interesting. There's another channel 'Fur Feather & Fin' that I've also started to watch, a young bloke out with his old fella a lot. He flys the birds too, a hawk.
    Lol... reading the comments, you've got plenty of 'experts' telling you what you 'need' to do... it's the same with shooting 😂 always somebody sat in a chair at home telling the lad in the field what he's doing wrong 😂.
    Take care fella.👍

      @@ruralpestcontrol Yea ferrets are more docile whereas minks were never domesticated as pets. Definitely not for the uncommitted but I think they can be just as fulfilling as a hunting companion maybe even more so because they're a more efficient hunter than a ferret, being that they're still wild animals but yea if you're just wanting a pet the ferret is definitely the way to go, they're much easier to handle and a lot less work. I had a cutie when I was a kid and she was a wonderful pet, shame she only lived for 7 yrs but that's pretty normal for them 😞, never took her hunting tho. Very interesting. I'd definitely think about getting another ferret. I love all the mustelids really, always have. Fascinating creatures.

      Does anyone eat the rabbits? Having watched some videos I see the ferrets seem to get the killing done quickly. It looked so barbaric to me, but poison must be pretty awful.

    • @ruralpestcontrol
      @ruralpestcontrol  Před 3 lety +1

      @@gabbirae7274 ferrets don't tend to kill them. They basically scare the rabbit out of it warren into a net. Once caught in the net the rabbit is dispatched by either it's neck broke or a blow to the back of its head. If a ferret does kill a rabbit it's usually because the rabbit refuses to leave the warren and I don't dig it out in time.
      All rabbits that are caught, are eaten by my ferrets or sold to a butcher, none are wasted. I have a large chest freezer to keep them in.
