  • Lizzy Donnelly from the village of Legan in County Longford has the cure for jaundice. This particular treatment is a mixture of herbs, boiled and strained to make a drink. She was given the recipe by a neighbour.
Lizzy Masterson has the cure for ‘the thorn’. This cure was given to her family by a woman and consists of unsalted butter that must be renewed annually on the morning of the first of May.
Bobby Trimble has a cure for various ailments. These include warts and a urinary condition called ‘the gravel’. He can also stop bleeding by saying a specific prayer three times. He was given this prayer from a man he knows called Pat Brady.
‘Donncha’s Travelling Roadshow’ was a series presented by Donncha Ó Dúlaing highlighting the people, music and traditions of rural Ireland.

It appears that 1980 elsewhere in the world was still essentially the middle ages in Ireland; populated by charming old people who represented this forgotten time centuries past by what was their unrecognizable spoken word, archaic superstitions & beliefs. Quite charming folks indeed. Thanks for this rare upload & insight.

People might sneer a bit at the prayers but those people believed and generally ate wholesome food, not near the drinking and smoking that goes on today. Herbs have provided wonderful cures for centuries

I had horrendous warts on my hand for around 5 years. Tried everything, freezing etc. Went to a man with the cure in Celbridge, Co.Kildare in c.2000-2002. My dad made me go! I had no faith in it at all. Said a few prayers over them and rubbed them with something (maybe Elderberry leaf?!).Within 2 weeks they were gone and have never returned.

    The Prayer for Blood cure
Our lord Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem
He was baptized In the River Jordan
The waters was pure and the waters was culled
As Jesus passed by the water stood
And by his power And in his name
I demand this blood to do the same
Say 3 time for the cure to complete
    Powerful simple lovely Prayer

A very strange thing happened to me 49 years ago. I was out walking one day through mountains and valleys in my area, minding my own business when I set down for a rest, a 0voice directed me to a place further up the mountain, I was told that I would find a very rich vein of pure gold, it was mine but I must not show others where this existed, it was for my own use and I must not pass any part of it to anyone else. I am a very rich but poor man as I am not allowed to sell any of my mountains of gold

    NI cure for warts .
My mother said a local lady had the cure and cut a spud in two .One half rubbed on the warts and the other half tied up on a string out on a tree .As the spud rotted so too did the warts .
    It worked .

Yeah, what you are hearing here probably constitutes what you'd call a longford accent.
It's not as instantly discernable as accents from other areas of the country...being as flat as the landscape around the area itself.

as will we be all is some 40-60 years’ time. what of it? Mortality does not erase the possibility of shared positivity effecting a ‘cure’, albeit even only temporary, for all sorts of human malaise.
