    I think that from the point of view of EU is because it is abusing expectations: when buying an iPhone you are expecting to buy a phone (hence the name), so them blocking choices after the purchase is and abuse against the customer.
    This is the same as the HP printers and them blocking the printer from working if you try third party cartridges.
    It is a "godfather tax": like a mafioso coming to you and asking for protection money, or else. They say that they will protect you but you have no other option except paying them 30 cents for every dollar you want to pay on their platform.

    • @Belaziraf

      If you look closer, apple is a mafiioso business model. They make the buyers addicted like drug. Like drug addicts, many will tell how good it makes them feel good. @Lukweo Před 4 měsíci +3

      To me that just seems like the user not taking responsibility… do some research into the purchase you’re making. People have the power to do so much these days and yet they continue to just throw out accountability fall to the floor and complain how it’s not their fault they brought a phone that works in a specific way, because “it looks cool?” Or cause they think “cool people own them” or “the Apple Store looks futuristic”

    • @Belaziraf
      @Belaziraf Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@Lukweo The problem is they thought they bought their phone while it wasn't a purchase. It's normal to use affiliated and approved repairshop during warranty time. Though the cost has to be supported by the manufacturer for hidden failures and any trouble within the the warranty. When you need to keep using manufacturer's network even for non vital parts at unreasonnable prices, that's forced rental. And the "purchase" should be voided and the consumer fully refunded.
      Most trade and consumer laws clearly state that what you BUY belongs to you. The way you use it or repair it is only restricted during manufacturer warranty. Provided you do care about it.

      The EU was wrong for expecting to control what Apple does with their hardware. People have a choice. If you don’t like Apple buy Android. There is no reason to legislatively turn the iPhone into an Android phone. Even dictating a charging port standard was wrong. If the government wants to dictate that, invest the billions Apple did in research and development. Epic was also wrong. They deliberately broke the terms of a contract and should have been laughed out of court, but a judge allowed them to get away with it. They didn’t need to have their games in the App Store, they wanted to. Their partnership with iPhone did a lot for them, but then people get u grateful eventually.

    It should be like the way it is done in Android and MacOS, where there is a setting burried several layers deep in the settings app to enable side-loading.
    Most people don't install apps outside of Google Play because they don't trust third-party sources. My view is if they do, and something goes wrong, that's on them, and not something Google should be concerned about.

      Exactly, some Apple evangelicals against this law act like if regular ppl go about their day on the web then a few clicks later they have 8 malware apps installed. This is far from the case on Android, except from having to enable installing from untrusted sources deep in settings, every install gives another warning and looks completely different than a play store install. Apple could make this even more obscure like requiring your full Apple ID to be entered at install.

Also with this bill it seem it target qpple specifically yet there other industries that do same like the gaming industry with nintendo, sony, and microsoft. If you own a switch you are locked into nintendo ecosystem and even worse they can shutdown support when the console gets too old denying you access to the store all together. Instead they're alienating developers to the point where the iPhone and iPad simply don't get a lot of useful apps. Sure, it also means a some junk is left out, but at this point so much junk and blatantly ripped off stuff slips through in the App Store anyway 🤷🏼 Especially in the game selection.

    Making a law saying Apple is not allowed to restrict user freedom of chice, individualism and diversity is not against individualism and not against freedom. The only thing the EU really did is going against the "voting with the wallets thing", which doesn't work, as we have seen in the USA: Bigfarma, Healthcare, Oil industry, some of the tech industry, Lightbulb industry........ (Let's be honest, your wallets aren't big enoug, and who has a big enough wallet, doesn't give a crap about you or the average joe...)
    Apple might not be the only option for consumers, but closing platforms, ecosystems are dangerous presidents, enforcing freedom is always good, restrict one big guy to cause harm to billions - that is the definition of democracy.
