  • 2020 Hawk DLX 250cc EFI Motorcycle (Purchased from AMAZON.COM) suddenly began making a rattle noise from the engine, with less than 500 miles. This video provides the fix for this noise and will help the viewer understand some of the internal components of the motorcycle. The part that failed was related to the centrifugal oil filter nut backing out. This issue can lead to catastrophic engine failure if not corrected immediately.

Hey just for future reference when you need to tourqe a bolt or nut in a a engine on a component that wants to spin you should take a penny and put it between gears instead of a screwdriver. You want to use a soft metal to prevent any chips of metal.

      Excellent advice. Thank you.

I use rope or trimmer line, more than enough to bind the gears, near impossible to hurt the metal, not that it's necessary on this engine but I've also used it on GY6 scooters by just stuffing the combustion chamber with rope through the sparkplug hole to pull off the CVT

You can also jam a rag between the gears .

I can't thank you enough for this great video. I rode mine with a very minor noise (similar to yours, but not as loud) a little bit too long and was rewarded with some mashed threads on the shaft that the centrifugal oil catch is mounted upon. It was near a 5 hour job because of that but it would have been much longer without your very fine instructional video. Thanks again!

There is a tool easily available for tightening that weird nut. Search 20mm/24mm honda clutch tool. Im sure it would work.

The threading on the shaft was stripped when I took it apart, by chance does anyone know the right specs so I can order a tap and die kit?

Is that lower gear on the right made of plastic, or just tan in color? Hopefully getting a Hawk dlx soon, so trying to learn more about it overall. Thanks for all the info you been posting. 🏍

I believe it was plastic (or nylon). Honestly I didn't pay much attention to it while the cover was off. You will really enjoy the Hawk, and the freedom of transitioning from pavement to dirt at any time.

My 2022 Lifan X-Pect rattles similarly at higher RPM when trying to gain speed quickly on a tar road. To me, it sounds like something is loose and only shows itself at the higher RPM.
