Another great mid-range guitar that flies under the radar!
Tones @ 3:20 Enjoy :)
I still would like to see you test the Cort CR300 LP style guitar against other LP guitars.
Only the price is mid range. Your comment diminishes its capability.
These companies have been crushing it when it comes to guitars at this level. The Yamaha Revstar, these, stuff coming from Reverend, etc. Honestly the construction, materials, design are phenomenal. But the important part: the execution, fit and finish, QC, etc.
They've been surpassing a lot of US flagship models from a few years ago, at ½- ⅓ price.
Well stated. SPOT ON!!
@@TheRycooder I did a pickup conversion on a new Revstar a couple days ago (I agree with the owner, that's the only soft part, the pickups, but that's a taste thing). I was honestly and sincerely BLOWN away by the fit and finish, especially the fret work. Honestly, it was as good as any Suhr or PRS. And doing those ball ends for the frets are a labor and TIME CONSUMING proposition. You need to grind away the tang at each end of the frets, and when you slot that board you, they only run between the ends that stop about ¼" from the edge of the fretboard, so you can't just saw across the board. It's tedious work and was done flawlessly.
Revstars delivery dates pushed back three times now, I'm still waiting.
@@dragan4658 yup, that's the hitch. If you see something and they have it you gotta get it, or else you'll be waiting forever
A good guitar is a good guitar. No matter where it's made. Though I'm not big on the revstar.... Yamaha is the bat's taint. I've just redone all the home audio stuff with certain specific Yamaha stuff. I've had this receiver that hasn't been OFF in almost 30 years. So recently I got more components and ungraded all. I've loved a few other guitars of theirs too. Yamaha is such a dynasty too.. think of all the different things they make. It's insane, really.. I've got most made in Japan Yamaha stuff. A couple components are Malaysia, which are excellent as well.
People forget Cort is an O.G. They make guitars for Ibanez, ESP LTD, Schecter and G&L as well. My girlfriend got me this guitar for my birthday and paid INR 47000 ($565); for that price, this guitar is as modern and high quality as Sire guitars and low end AZs by Ibanez.
If you're spending about $1K CAD for a guitar these days, you're able to get something really amazing. The budget guitar brands have upped the game, forcing others to get better. All in all, a win for players!
I’m not so sure the “big 2” have actually gotten better, just more expensive. At least not the American stuff. Their just charging Mexi prices for Chinese and Indonesian Fender branded instruments. Those guitars are getting really good, but it’s weird to pay 900 for something that says made in…
@@robcarter6599 I think fender has done some changes... Modernized a bit. Parallel universe, etc, though, I wouldn't buy any of those. Other than that, not really. I've looked at strats and teles and Les Pauls and sg enough. Their comes a point, ya know? Where it just bored the hell outta me and I became disinterested in the guitar. And well that wasn't good. Everyone and their sister makes a super strat, or super tele. There's much more ergonomic shapes out there. I'd like to see some more original stuff. I got rid of any guitar like a strat with a giant white pickguard on it. The only reason I don't get rid of the no pickguard, super strat type guitars I have is cause of their limited nature, and that they play EXTREMELY well.
I will say this... Indonesian guitars that I have...a few.. An ltd... An Ibanez, a few others- Play superb. Ain't nothing wrong with Indonesian. Damn esp arrow plays itself in the case at night. And it's not even some "esp custom shop" version... It's fantastic.
@@atakdragonfly1675 I hope people understand, I don’t think it’s anything to do with ethnicity or intelligence. I think that Asians are far an away some of the most exquisite craftsman in the world. It’s that, traditionally, Fender has only branded stuff manufactured in those countries as Squires. I have a Chinese Fender that’s excellent. There’s an Indonesian that is the one other guitar I really want. It’s fighting the history of the companies branding and lower end parts that have been used there.
@@robcarter6599 no I never took it that way. That's true... Charging out the enchilada for sub par work, poor quality control etc... That absolutely sucks. Of course there's skilled craftsmen all over the world, in many instruments, in many fields.
The G300 Pro cemented Cort/Cor-Tek as the brand I trust most. Near perfection out of the box.
So glad to see a Cort on here, Darell, thank you. I own the X700 duality, and it blows away most other guitars from big names on both build and playability, although it is a little heavy as no weight relief which I do not like anyway. I am totally not going to pay over the odds for a name, if I chose another guitar it would most likely be a Fender as I find they are best of value, brand prestige and quality. Then again, the X700 does more than most others, so I shall stick with it for sometime to come.
Started on a Cort Panther strat body and have never looked back, that was bout 30 yrs ago. Absolutely love cort.
Roasted maple neck, truss rod adjuster location, and the top are all excellent features! I have a Cort, unfortunately resale is lacking for a Cort. Thank's for sharing!
Had a Cort CR250 for years. It was incredible. It had these same Humbuckers. Cort makes so many guitars for so many other brands including Fender and PRS. INCREDIBLE fit and finish.
Paid over AUD$1k for a Cort jumbo acoustic in 2004 and it's still going strong today. Great job. A quality instrument and a valued investment.👍
Noice!
I think your a great guitar player. I have watched your reviews and learned some tips as I watch you play.
Thank you! I've just started looking for my first guitar, something that I'm hoping I'll still be using in time. I've picked this, rightly or wrongly, because it looks nice, I've had a feel of one in a shop and it seems well finished. O h and you've said it plays nicely, that'll do
The use of the pick in the 1 minute solo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow brought back memories !! I have played acoustic or acoustic/electric guitar most of my life but a Cort was my very first electric way-back when !! Nice to see them doing a great job these days !! 👏 !! I was kinda unexpectedly a little surprised with the Alder body having pretty good Tone and very good Sustain !! 👍 ! The Neck must of been a part of that !!!
Because tonewood is a scam, scientifically disproven
Truss rod adjustment at neck heel is always a plus to me, I like my headstocks strong.
Great Hiram Bullock-like sound that you can experience from nowhere but Cort only. I should mention that Cort once produced his signatures in the last days of his life.
Great looking guitar. I picked up the Cort G300 Pro recently and it's an excellent guitar. Loving all the competition out there these days driving guitar makers to increase the features on guitars without breaking the budget. This looks like another great entry from Cort.
Wish they had different finishes.Maybe next year.
I think Fishman Fluance pickups would be fantastic on this, especially to select single coil pickup tones.
I really like this guitar. Looks like a shredder!
I've been watching you for some time now. Your playing has improved very noticeable. Keep up the good work.
Cort has been killing it lately. Good work DB
Killing their workers by forcing them into the desperation of a hunger strike.
I did a review of the first generation and they made a bunch of changes I mentioned wanting. Now if I can get my hands on the new one that’s be great. Haha
Great video Darrell!
If you can get Reverends up north I recommend them. I have the Jetstream 390, it’s got the roasted maple neck and board, a Korina offset type body (though it’s all covered by the finish), their brand locking tuners, Wilkinson 2-point trem (it came floating from the factory), and 3 Reverend designed soapbar pickups on a 5-way switch, volume, tone and “bass contour” which really changes the tone. Some interesting hardware other brands don’t use, the string tree extends to the 3rd string, and there’s a set of stepped back points on the trem claw to change how the bar feels (I haven’t tried using them yet). It’s priced at about $1200US online, so higher tier but not Gibson or USA PRS prices, (they are made overseas but like PRS SE models they get checked over and all set-up work is done in Ohio (including adding the hand written serial number.
и слава богу, цены не подмутся за бренд. У меня их 3 бас a5, кх 507 и 290. Хотя есть и американская гитара и 2 японских. Корт не хуже.
Cort produce amazing guitars! I picked up a Cort CR200GT for an incredible price. It keeps my Gibson Studio locked away in its case 🙂
This is a great format..Like the guitar a lot.
Awesome Guitar! Cort makes some fantastic acoustics too that you should review Darrell.
Nice instrument. Like the tones. I always enjoy the 1 minute solos. Well executed and tasteful.
No thanks for the scam
@@sgt.grinch3299 Haha! They got there already eh?
As you said, Cort makes and has made guitars for many different companies. I'm weighing in here because one of my favorite guitars was made by Cort in February of 2001. It's branded Ibanez, though. I may have more Cort-built guitars than that, though. I bought the Ibanez used and with a badly cracked neck. The guitar was built so well, though, that I repaired the neck and then upgraded the living hell out of it. (It started existence as an RG220B, which was cheap. I enjoy rebuilding cheap guitars; it's another way to use guitars for self-expression. I would now hesitate not one second to gig this axe -- and I'm sure that I would be just as ready to gig pretty much anything Cort builds!
I've got 3 older Cort Guitars! (one is a basic passive bass). One is the Cort CL 1000 (Les Paul-ish style) & the other is a smaller hollowbody ... the Cort CL1500 (Think Les Paul size...but hollow! ...and someone swapped out pickups...I'm not unhappy with that move). Love the quality and playability of my Cort guitars!
Looks good. Sounds good. Alas, I already have 5 guitars, and I like 'em all.
Cool ! Thanks Darrel 🤙🤙 my first electric guitar was a Cort. $99 a white guitar strat design hard to remember but I think it only had one picked up. Didn’t know anything about electric guitars at the time. I really enjoyed it along with my gorilla app lol This would have been about 1984.
awesome in depth review darrell. love ya vids. Do you rekon its worth spending the extra money on this version 2 or go for the version 1 , cheers
When I was in England last, I saw some serious Cort shredder guitars there in a music shop. Some that I've never seen anywhere. Serious guitars... A few had laser etched tops. When you picked them up... You just KNEW, by the very tactile feel of it... that they were beasts. I was going to try playing them... But my lady was like let's go..
.. And she loves guitars. We were running errands. I never got the chance. I might have took one of the things home, if the maybe neck came off... But they didn't. Those good ones didn't, they were neck thru. These were unlike anything I've ever seen here in the USA, or online eBay or anywhere. Seriously good guitars. Superb fret work. Every bit on par with prestige guitars or esp, or any boutique player guitar out there. I'm sure of it. Even though I never was able to play any. I could just tell by the feel of EVERYTHING when I picked up a few. Felt like some of my nastier monster guitars I have. I just know.
Killer guitar. I wish they’d make a variation with a compound radius of something like 8 to 14 ( which is plenty flat for hard bends) Eight in first position would make for really comfortable chording. - close to those vintage fenders. warmoth does 10 to 16 but I think 8 to 14 would be ideal
I ordered this guitar yesterday. So surprised to see a review.
Nice grainy sound! Wish they had a 24.
Cort really are taking the piss with this guitar. I've had mine for two days and it is god damn good. So easy to play, sounds beautiful and holds it's tuning incredibly well. Cort as a company are now using their own guitars as advertising to bring in bigger brands to get their import models done in the Cortek factory. But honestly, why would you get a named import when you can get this? It's incredible.
Actually reminds me a little of the EVH Wolfgang. Cannot recommend this enough.
Kind of looks.likw a Music Man Luke.
What is the weight, sir?
Bought the first version of this guitar, due in no small part to your review. Love it - great guitar. My first guitar was a Cort strat back in the 80s - still have it, still sounds great.
Really nice looking guitar, not crazy about the 2xhumbuckers config. I think my money would find something else. Also, I have a Cort made Fender Strat (that I bought new in the 90's CN# MIK Squier Series), it's alright but a weird mishmash of parts. This one looks a lot more refined.
Hi there, ist was Darrell who made me buy the "Mark One" and I like it so much. It's a wonderful guitar, especially the birdseye maple neck. To be honest, I doubt a roasted neck can ever beat it.
I also have a birdseye maple neck g290 fat mk1 but people all over interwebs say the roasted maple is better
@@riffheart Hey Suyash, maybe you and "the Interweb" are right. I am not an expert. My thougt is just simple: you can roast every piece of maple and get roasted maple. But birdseye has to be birdseye right from the start. You cant make it. Can anybody here tell us how rare this stuff is?
Hi Darrell! I won? Really? Now how's that going because i live in Germany. How can we communicate without co-reading from complete Internet?
Thanks for your reviews Darrell. This guitar looks great, sounds great but where did you get one. I'm in Canada and can't find it anywhere including online except Thomann has some B stock?
Nice looking guitar and well builded! But still not very convinced about the pickups sound. Kind I know the answer but, do you think is a good platform to upgrade pickups? I have a petrucci set liquidfire/crunchlab to I think will fit perfectly.
I have an old Cort RG and love it although I need to update the electronics she plays great
Very cool guitar in high quality
Defo buying this...looks so nice as well but I'm getting the blue version
For clean tones, I think position 3 is my favorite.
This guitar is stuning
I have played for 40 years. In my day even the brand guitars had there flaws. Today on a budget you can get and amazing guitar you could not get in my day as a young guitar player.
Hi Darrell, what amp + cab setup are you using to demo this guitar? I think the amp is making a huge sound difference :)
Looks about as high quality as my fender professional 2. It's impressive to say the least
If the guitar has a tremolo system, could you dive bomb it during the solo sections so we can see if the guitar stays in tune when it's used?
Roasted maple neck a d the truss rod adjuster is definately a Check mark!
Why does the space for the neck humbucker bigger than the humbucker? looks like about half an inch of space there. would probably put something in there to stop dust form getting in.
This brand is widely available in my country compared to other brands that I want. Is their les paul series a good one? They are similarly priced with epiphone.
I have a Cort electric guitar the m600 in green a bit like the anaconda green.
Plays great sounds great with the Seymour Duncan pickups as standard
Hi Darrell did you send me this text link .saying I have won something and to hit you with some numbers
Hello, I enjoyed the review. I have a G290 and want to caution those looking that in my guitar the select switch is going out at only 8 months. I have already addressed the issue once with deoxit, it really does not stay in tune. I also noticed that the saddle of the high E in your example looked maxed out. One main issue you did not address was the addition of the string tree...makes me wonder if they are aware of the tuning issues on the older model.
please tell me, do you have any experience with Cort g 290 fat-2 guitar? you say that she began to break after a while?
Are there one-year-on follow-ups to the Mk1? The thing about budget brands is they can appear well-made at first in-store, then things start falling apart after a year.
Any piece of 2x4 with a good pickup placed within good hands will sound good. It’s the reality! Spend your money on a good amp and on a few good pedals.
I understood that I prefer roasted neck and grey top - this guitar with Sire S7 in the same colours my favourites of the style.
The cort brand is well regarded here in Brazil, I hope this guitar will be available to Brazilians as soon as possible, as it has an exquisite tone and finish. Hug
How expensive are American brands in Brazil? I know your country puts a pretty hefty import tax on things like electronics. Wondering if its the same with musical instruments.
@@brittsmith8260 Yes. Things here are very expensive due to taxes. A guitar at this level would cost around $1500.00.
@@brittsmith8260 Guitarra Cort G290 Fat Eletrica Avb Humbucker 6 Cordas

COULD YOU TELL ME WHAT MY PRIZE WAS?
You guys have Tagima and I think it's on par with Cort or maybe even better.
Hi ! thank you for this demo. I prefer the look and the sound of the previous version. Can you make a Versus with Asat deluxe carved/Cort G290 FAT/PRS SE with 85/15se pickups ? pleeaaasseee ^^
Mine should arrive today. I've ordered the antique violin version.
How do you like it ?
Can you please do a review of the cort x700 duality?
nice review.
If Darrell's hair had an evil twin, it would be the G290FAT II.
Hi, if you have to choose between this Cort and the Yamaha Revstar with p90. What would you choose in terms of playabiliti and quality?
From good to better.
Hi Darrell, I'm a pretty poor excuse for a guitar player but I hope someday you will review my first guitar, it's the Cort X700 Duality. I've been told it plays beautifully but sadly not in my hands, someday I hope. It would be great to see you demo this guitar. Thanks for the video!
Have you had it professionally set up? I own the same guitar and I might be biased on the set-up as I am a guitar tech, but once set up correctly this guitar will match and often outplay the big names. It is fiddly, but something worth learning, after all we learn how to drive a car, so why not do the same for your guitar?
i really like it, but id like to see a push pull tone knob to get single coil sounds from the humbuckers, then it would be like my ibanez az for a third of the price
Hey Darrell, I would like to hear your opinion on brazilian made guitars like from the Tagima brand.
should try out "SOLOKING" guitars. roasted maple neck, alder body, rosewood fret, locking tuners & stainless steel frets. would love to see your input on this guitar.
Have you done any reviews of any of their Jazz Guitars?
Hello, anyone knows what's the upgrade tips of FAT II over FAT I?
My first guitar is a Cort, from the '90, so I love the brand !!!
Darrell, I can understand why you want stainless steel frets on that Cort, but regular frets can be preserved longer just by keeping them polished. Polishing makes for smoother frets; smoother frets reject friction better and wear less because of it. This is a tip I'm sure you don't need, but perhaps this post will help one or more of your viewers.
Everything you said is correct but it kind of sounds like you're downplaying importance of SS frets. Polish them or not, regular frets will wear out and you have unplayable guitar. Luthiers are expensive and sometimes don't do their job perfectly so the best way to avoid stress and $$$ of refret job is to go with a guitar with SS frets and avoid that hustle of dealing with luthiers.
@@Tomislav_B. I actually agree with you for the most part. I tend to look at these things from the low-cost point of view. Polishing frets WILL NOT prevent wear, but doing it will REDUCE friction-caused damage and thereby lengthen the life of the frets. I'm also aware that the barrier to entry into stainless steel frets is lower than ever. If, however, you can't get SS frets, polishing helps delay refretting.
Cuál recomienda para sound clean y jazz.....la Cort 290 Fat o la Cort G 300 Pro.....????...
I have this Guitar from years ago when it first came out, mine has 2 hums 1 single.
hope he talks about the scale, because it's a smaller guitar than your average strat.
Should come with jumbo frets at this specs ..
Not having SS frets today is a deal breaker for many.
Just wish there was an HSS or SSS pickup config model
Thare are a couple of dealers in Canada, not where I live that have version 1 but I prefer version 2. Thanks.
👍Their custom lp better then some gibson lp.
Wouldn’t mind one
I find myself dropping by more for the playing than the equipment, sometimes anyway.
Does it come in other colors and finishes?
I WISH that Cort would make one with the SS frets and roasted maple but with single coils. I have the G300 Pro but just really want the single coils. I bought the G280 Select but it's nothing like it. Feels totally different. G300 single coil guys please!!
I can’t find a tremolo bar that fits. What is the diameter and where can I find it? Thanks.
I'm waiting for the cort x700 duality 2 demo, from you..
Please try Elegee guitar. From philippines. They are really good
Where can u get them...not in canada
can you review the CR300?
3:48 sounds like FFVII fighting tune
Which processor did you use?
It almost sounds like position 2 and 4 are split coil or is it just me?
Cort have all but finished a new factory for just doing PRS as they are permanently booked up with orders and there is virtually a line up form more companies to make get Cort to make theirs.
Definitely purpose built, clean classic aint in that category, which is fine.
Nice. I have the Mk 1 and everything about it is great, except I found the pickups sound a bit odd, kind of dark. As Darrell says, "...clean tones are not its forte". I'm assuming these are the same pickups on this Mk 11. And when you choose the single coil sounds there's an appreciable drop off in volume, again as Darrell mentioned. That's a problem that can in fact be solved, Fender have done it (Ultra HSS), maybe Cort will add this on the Mk111!
Hey Darrell can you compare this guitar to a PRS DGT SE?
no comparison lol
Nice guitar can't believe no stainless frets on such a nice neck
"Forte" (pronounced fortay) is Italian for "loudly." "Forte" (pronounced fOrt) is French for strength or strong subject or strong suit.
Thank you. No one knows that though.
Its stainless fretwire?
