"Ooh, a lot of alan wrenches. So I wonder if it's a Floyd Rose." The immediate loss of enthusiasm was palpable, haha
You just needed a "boyyoyyoiiinngg" sound effect for the broken string
I was considering getting one of those a few months back. I'm impressed that they're giving you Stainless Steel frets for under $1000
And they're really nicely finished too, to top it all off. Ibanez also has a few AZ Premium models which are similarly specced but have Gotoh hardware, but in all fairness that Ash body and Maple top are some serious bang for the buck.
I received my Cort X700 Duality last week and it's amazing. The nut is real bone, but came pretty rough in the slots (the depth and positioning were perfect at least), which was causing pinging and tuning instability with the tremolo, and after a quick polishing inside the slots, which I do on all my guitars anyways, with some string and metal polish, the string slots are now as smooth as glass, and tuning stability is perfect. I actually use regular sewing thread, and keep doubling about 6" of length (up to 50-60 strands on the low E), until I twist the strands together and it's the correct diameter for whatever slot I am working on. Then I rub some metal polish in the string, tightly twist the strands until the string is perfectly round, and 30 seconds of back and forth in the slot mostly pushing downward to the bottom and a little on the sides, the slots now look like glass, and it doesn't remove enough material to mess with the nut fit. It's kind of like final finishing the slots with 15000-20000 grit sanding cord of the perfect diameter, and when you are done, the slots look as shiny as glass. I then use a little nut grease in the slots (but any nut lube would be fine), and tuning stability is now perfect. This means the Cort tremolo system is perfect, but just needs the nut slots to be smooth and lubed (like all tremolo's do with non-locking nuts). Cort advertises that the tremolo block and saddles are stainless steel. Also, the factory fretwork on the stainless steel frets was extremely nice (they especially had really nice and smooth and rounded edges), but I took it one step further, and mirror polished all the frets when I had the strings off to polish the nut (I also reshaped the nut a little to round out the side edges to make it more comfortable). These couple of little easy tweaks made the guitar instantly feel and play like a $2,000+ guitar. Very happy with the guitar, and it sounds amazing, with a very low and fast action. Very resonate body and neck, and sustains for days. There is nothing like the feel of mirror polished stainless frets on a guitar. String bending feels like you are cheating. I was in the other room yesterday, and overheard this guitar apologizing to all my other guitars for making them look so bad... 😁 I think the Fender's are holding a grudge still, because I keep catching them rolling their eyes at the Cort... 👍
Be careful the other guitars may cause it to trip up onto the floor😁Thanks for the tip re polishing the nut.👍🏻
Sustains for days... I'm definitely getting one 😂
What's the nut width??
sounds like a lot of work on the nut, seems easier and better to get a $13 Graphtech nut
Put it in your back pocket, so you can find it in the washing machine or dryer later like I do. Great method for organizing things.
What a beautiful guitar. I'm a huge fan of Cort and have a set of the "M" Master series from the early to mid-2000s and love all 8 models. The M800 won Guitar Player Magazine Editor's Choice award so they have been making excellent guitars for many years. This one is no exception.
Hey Phill from the UK and in lockdown your videos are the only thing keeping me sain. Thanks 👍👍👍
That guitar looks very solidly built and it sounds decent, shredders are gonna dig this one.. as I always say, we're living in a golden era for gear! Cheers!
30 years ago Cort was just junk but these days are a complete 180 turn around, they look magnificent, play great and stay in tune oh...and did i mention they look insanely nice. Cort has really come a long way in the 30 years i've known of them.
I got to agree that they've come a VERY long way in my 20 years of playing. I mean they have to be very good quality wise now since PRS has Cort build their entire SE line now. It truly is the Golden Age of cheap gear.
Very cool, especially enjoying the look. Appreciate the honest and detailed review as always!
It sounds awesome and that is before you finished the demo thank you, Phillip.
That Crimson Guitar Kit you built, really stole my attention
😍
Best looking guitar I have seen in a while
Thank you Phil. Great info. Been looking at CORT... have been on the fence.
That thing is really beautiful and if I even knew it existed I would never bought my Ibanez RGD
The frets look stunning!
I love Cort guitars quality and control, you get so much for little price. Perhaps they could have better colors, but when it comes to parts they are excellent.
The color of this one is my favorite thing about it lol. Not a huge fan of that natural stripe around the body, but I love the color.
Agreed
I own a Cort KX Custom, it's a seriously good guitar. Even my little G200 is phenomenal for the price.
PRS SE 👍🏽
Little price???? They are not cheap
Beautiful guitar. Cort makes great guitars. I used to have one of their acoustics back in early 90s.
If your in tone trouble, go to Cort, lots of big brands do 🤘🏽
I just picked one up 2nd hand that i dont think the guy ever played. I'm blown away at how nice the cort is. Far more than i expected and will easily run with my much more expensive axes. And as you said, just roll back on the volume and she cleans up nicely . Very versatile and a great shredder.
That looks FANTASTIC
I just got a Cort KX508MS. It' an 8 string multiscale, Fishman pickups, push pull pots, locking tuners, Indonesian made for only around $900. It feels and sounds so much better than my old 2012 Schecter 8 string made in Korea. Very impressed with them.
Love both my cort acoustic and electric.
Thanks for a good look, I am seriously considering this guitar.
My first guitar was a Cort double cut. It held up quite well to a less than delicate 12yr old and sounded so much better than all the available “student” guitars.
I have a Cort Z Custom. It is a kind of a Super Les Paul and it is amazing. Beautiful, and plays and sounds great.
Great review nice quick set up
Cort has come along way from those late 80s cheapys they use to make!
I hope your keeping this one it's beautiful 👍☺️
I just bought the G290 for $599. It is my first electric, and probably my one and only. Shows up next week. I'm totally jazzed. I've been a Cort acoustic fan for 25 years.
I had a Cort in the early 80's, an early copy version of the now famous Dean Dimebag shape. It was neck thru- 21 fret- with brass inlays, and a brass nut. Very solid beautiful wood tobacco burst, 30+yrs later I still think about it and even back then the quality was there for the price point.
Perfect timing Phil.
I like Cort guitar, they always deliver a great guitar for the money.
I had a customer order one of the Cort 8 string multi-scale guitars. It was Amazing!!
Beautiful looking guitar!
Idk how I feel about a product called “nut sauce”
Especially when you always here it as “Big Ben’s” instead of “bends”.
I dont know about you, but Nut Sauce sounds like my kind of product.
@@ryanwilson5936 Hear.
YOUR loss!
@@Mark-OutWest ;o)
I picked up the Cort G290 FAT last year and it is awesome. More of a Suhr modern vibe and heaps of fun to play. I have ordered the Cort A5 plus single cut multiscale bass and am just waiting for it to come in. Cort make brilliant instruments especially for the price
How do you feel g290, is it any good?
man you should try Cort Basses , I´ve got an artisan c4 and that thing is versatile af
Agreed on this! I have the C5 open pore..
I had one, I miss it. I love my corts, I have three now, they all punch way above their price point.
I bought a sire m7 bass and I wish I'd have bought the cort instead. Cort has always impressed the hell out of me. Thanks for another great video brother.
I have a Cort Stienberger bass I got at a Sears outlet store back in the 80's. Price was $100.
I have an Artisan B5... LOVE IT!
I have a Cort Garage 1 and I love it. Thinking of putting locking tuners on it
Very nice looking guitar! Cort makes good stuff!
Nice reviews 👍! Thanks
This is beautiful guitar !
Always like Cort acoustics, that looks a really high end guitar, nice colour
I have a emerald green cort mirage, beautiful and well crafted guitar.
Beautiful guitar
That's a gorgeous instrument. I followed the link, and the price is low for what you get. No hard-shell case, but that gig bag was really nice. Padding is a must, and so many gig bags are just a thin layer of material, and nothing to actually protect your guitar.
I'm happy with my Gibson, but honestly if I were going to look for a guitar both for personal enjoyment and playing out (full disclosure, I'm a keyboard player😁) this one would be very high on my list.
Thanks for the review, Mr. McKnight. We appreciate the time you spend sharing your expertise with us.
One of my first electrics in the late 80's was a Cort, kind of like a les paul junior double cutaway. It was great
Does the guitar is still alive?
@@vgeesnaps no, it's long gone. The stupidity of youth.
@@zootybang how many years did the guitar was on you?
@@vgeesnaps probably had it for 5 years before trading it.
6:30: thank you so much for saying this
I have a cort m900 and i love it
FLAWLESS VICTORY! 🤘
That's a badass guitar, Phil.
Sounds great 👍
That is one shmexy guitar. That finish! Cort is one of those companies that sell to so many others as ghost builders that you probably have owned a Cort and didn't know it. And the SD JB & 59 set is about as solid as it comes. I would not even ding it for the broken string. I don't care if it's brand new, I ALWAYS remove the strings, set it up and Big Bendz the nut. Then restring it with my NYXL strings. Best strings made (IMHO) That tone is perfect and so is your demo. Your playing just gets better every time I watch
Recently good the newer X700 and I can say it is honestly good aside from the cosmetics thing ( there's a small crack on the side of the fretboard) and preference. Planning to set up my guitar with a luthier after this, (which I do every time I get a new guitar). Overall never been happier, it looks good and play good outside the box. With proper adjustments, it is a total beast and the price is nuts considering the spec of the guitar. Props to Cort.
yeah that's impressive considering everything said about the neck and fretboard! Looks like they have a blue one like that also!
My first guitar was a cort explorer looking guitar which I still have hanging in my garage. I worked 2 summers In 86 and 87 with my dad. He bought it for me on my 13th birthday. Its retired now.
My MIM Fender Strat broke a lot of strings right there at the tuning peg hole. Finally, took a thin round file to all the peg hole edges and a rolled up piece of wet/dry sandpaper, softening the edges . . . not another break in years. My LTD from Indonesia is flawless . . . copy of a Les Paul faded cherry burst . . . Cort produces for quite a few name brands.
I see Hedras Ramos playing these! He's obviously a great player but his guitar sounds so good!
Love the Cort X700, great guitar for the money
I've been looking at Corts for awhile. I should probably pick one up sometime down the line.
This is a frequent question I see on a few beginner guitar sites. Asking when to adjust a truss rod vs adjusting the bridge.
You should have commented more on the tremolo. It is really a great tremolo that performs and sounds fantastic. I just bought a G260DX for around $250USD. The only thing that needed replacement was the tremolo springs. I really like the raw vintage springs and a bone nut. After this and a proper setup, this guitar kick ass. All the hardware on it is top notch. For $250USD is the best deal I ever had buying a guitar.
They've made nice guitars for a long time. I've got a V I've had since 85 or 86.
I have one of their guitars, they're pretty solid actually
As far as one can tell from a CZcams video, the clean sound is very nice and attractive. The metal sound too - something I rarely say. Unfortunately not my preferred scale length.
I would not mind this guitar at all it sounds great 🤘🏻😁🤘🏻
Nice demo and review Phil ! Great axe for the $ and the blue version is $709. on Reverb ! 😎🎸👍
"Ping"🤪
Looks really nice!
Cort ain't bad at all
i'm a delaware native but i was studying in Hungary for about a month in Jan 2020, and I bought a Cort classical guitar there. only about $120 USD and its one of my favorite guitars to play
Great video! Check out the Revstar line by Yamaha especially the 502
I got the blue one at the beginning of the year and was apparently one of their NAMM display models which was pretty sick. The thing is a beast but had some odd issues? Idk how anyone played it initially because when I got it the string slots were almost non existant so the strings would move side to side a bit and buzz out. Never had that issue where there were like... no string slots haha Though after fixing the nut and giving it a proper setup and working out a loose solder connection the thing plays awesome! The fretwork truly is immaculate. Also mine actually has a light grade piece of flamed maple for the neck stripe which was a pleasant surprise! All things considered all n all pretty big bang for the buck! Just had to work out a couple things.
Feeling the prs vibe
Nice Shredder!
I picked up a Cort X11QM a while back, very nice guitar actually.
Love it
NICE, THE JAM AT THE 6:00 MARK SOUNDS VERY KARATE KID INSPIRED, GOOD REVIEW THANKS
That's a very nice guitar!!
Actually one of the best looking guitars that I have seen. That thing is sharp!!
I like the look for sure. :)
My first guitar in the 80's was a Cort Les Paul copy. I wish a had never traded it.
i wanted one of those so bad! had a catalog and would stare at them daily. but, it wasn't meant to be! so it is really nice to see they are still around and putting out high end instruments as well. if they make a high end les paul i would seriously consider that, but this one is a little too flashy looking for me.
Hi Phil, I'm a rank Beginner, I bought this guitar a couple years again in the blue color and I'm really impressed with the quality. I know I'm not much of a judge being such a rookie but it seems well made. I also just bought a Fender Strat Ultra Luxe which I also play terribly. I pray for the day I can really play a song well, I don't know the answer, you make it look so easy but I know you put a lot of time into playing so well. I also bought a Martin D28 modern deluxe and it is just painful to play. I got it a couple years ago also and I'm wondering if the strings have raised off the neck over two years. I'm going to drag it into Guitar Center and get them to adjust it. I wish I could do it myself but maybe someday when I grow a guitar brain.
Great review, thanks Phil!
Looks amazing. Do they build Schecter guitars?
I have a Cort entry level acoustic and I play the crap out of it. I love it... Good stuff for the price.
Big Bens Nut Sauce cracks me up for some reason 🤣
I got a super deal on a used late '80's(?)Cort Viva. It's fantastic.
Most of us know what the tink is man don't freak out hope you're okay
Bonita!!!
Guitar looks good
I had a Cort Explorer when I was a kid
I have a Cort CR100 (Les Paul style) guitar, it's in the 200-300 dolar range I think and it's amazing, I love how it looks and how it sounds I'd love to see a review of one of them by you because there are very few demos of that guitar on youtube, it should be more known by people it's a great model
Although I'm not a giant fan of Cort, the Jeff Berlin Signature 'Rhithimic' bass is really quite nice for under a grand and it compares favorably with the Peavey Palaedium Jeff Berlin signature and the Dean that was out a few years' ago.
I have a second hand cheapo Cort G110 HSS superstrat, my first ever electric, and I LOVE it!!. My cheapo Cort acoustic AD810 dreadnought is also full of soul. Cort is not just a 'no name' brand. It is a brand anyone would love if they can get past their brand snobbery and try one.
Damn good looking guitar
I like your hair style
I love my Cort Strat
I own a guitar shop and am a Main Dealer for Cort once my luthier has set these up and fret levelled them they honestly play amazing. I play lead guitar in my band and have one of these in my collection
Whats the name of your shop? Can I purchase this model from your shop?
Moving the overhead mic helped.
I think that It is a common issue with the string breaking at Cort locking tuners. I experienced the same in my brand new Cort KX 700. I think that it is because of the quatlity of the locking tuners. I lost three E1 strings in a row. It helped to switch the tuners in their places and pile the hole a little bit. Before that I was on the way to return the guitar to the shop. Hey Cort, this is something you definitely need to improve!!!
If I just saw a picture of that, I would've assumed it was some kind of custom Kiesel Aries lol
Dude, I have a Kiesel Aries and I think the Cort looks even better
Cort is outstanding. Had a CR250 Les Paul type for years and it was a great guitar. Definitely better then any Epiphone. Cort also made a PRS SE I had. Cort makes a lot of guitars for other companies
that blue prs-like guitar in the back is gorgeous. what is it?
Hey Phillip, I follow your channel since the early 2018 and its great. I ve bought a Danelectro 59 and your review was fundamental in that decision. Man, have checked out the Cort Sunset with a Duncan Design P90 and a Telecaster bridge? I ve been impressed by its sound in certain videos I watched. Would like to see your review and know your impressions about it. Thank you man for your videos and have a nice day. ⚡🎼
Another in this style is the Vintage V6M24. They come with a either a Floyd or a Wilkinson. Under $500. I now own two. I play one of them more than my Charvel. Not as high-end as this, but still excellent.
