Seymour Duncan SH4 vs VTONE VH4 (chinese SH4 copy) | Cort G290 FAT

- Searching for bridge pickup for my Cort G290 FAT I was looking for some high output pickup. Since already mounted in neck position VTONE P90 copy is great sounding I decided to try out their VH4 which is copy of Seymour Duncan SH4. Since I have original TB4 in one of my guitars I decided to record short comparison of both pickups. I think both sound very similar, VH4 has slightly lower output. Yes, I know that VTONE has metal cover on it which can affect a tone :)

Nice comparison. Being that close, almost identical there is no reason to spend big on the Seymour Duncans unless you just want to be that show pony who constantly brags about having Seymour Duncans. The truth is, the people pointing out the slightest of differences in the comparison are only trying to justify the money they spent on their SD's. VTones for the win.

That's one hell of a great comparison dude, if this would be a blind sound test then i could have failed it badly.
Especially when you play home using plugins or processors pickups are not affecting sound that much :)
No doubt Seymour Duncan is more dynamic or is just louder and has better sustain, but still for 1/3 price VTONE sounds good
I'd go with the less expensive when they sound nearly identical playing rock music. Pocket the savings for other hop ups.

Great comparison. I didn't hear any difference. Yeahh, we pay a lot of extra for the brand name. A pickup is not rocket science, very simple device. Greetings from Finland, keep on rocking and kippis.

Your wrong the Seymour Duncan will have pure nickel cover and base plate these fake will have brass a lot cheaper than full nickel
Yes, pickups are very basic and big names are very expensive. Why haven’t PRS put some decent pickups in their SEs instead of the awful things they currently use?
To me, they do sound very close indeed but I like the duncan better. IMO, the duncan has more power, more low end meat. The high frequency are "dryer", "thinner" a little more harsh and "honky" with the VH4. But considering duncan pickups prices have increased a lot... that seems a good alternative. :) Cool video btw, but if you ask me 4mm from the strings is too much for humbuckers.
thanks man, yee considering prize VTONE is really good alternative. About pickups height, I was experimenting some time ago and 3-4mm is best for me, when I went lower it was capturing a lot of noise but maybe it is just my bad mutting techinque :D

they sound different especially one has a cover and one hasn't. I listen to same pickups but with and without covers and it affects sustain and clarity.
If you have good earphones you can hear the difference. SD definitely better. Definitely.

Jak kiedyś taka dostanę w swoje ręce to nagram :D Mam teraz chiński Fleor pod mostkiem w telecasterze, taki mini humbucker, całkiem ciekawie brzmi :)
Nice demo! How did you install the SH4? The existing pickup mounting screws are too thick for SH4 and the screws that came with SH4 is too long and they are threaded. Also, existing holes in the body cavity are not exactly aligned with SH4 as the holes were drilles for existing pickup. Any tips?
Maybe my SH4 have enlarged holes because I don't remember any problems with srews, I bought this pickup as used one years ago :)

Tak się zastanawiam nad tą gitarą. Polecasz? Gdzie można ją kupić w Polsce? Nie wiesz może jakie siodełko tam montują (materiał) bo szukałem na oficjalnej stronie ale tam się nie chwalą. Myślałem też nad Schecter C1 Custom.
Witam, gdzie kupić w Polsce niestety nie wiem bo sam zamawiałem z thomanna, polecić ze swoich doświadczeń mogę. Wszystko jest ładnie spasowane, klucze i most wyglądają bardzo solidnie, gryf z klonu ptasie oczko prezentuje się świetnie. Jedyne co wymieniłem to pickupy. Co do siodełka to raczej zwykły plastik i w moim egzemplarzu było trochę za wysokie jak dla mnie także pogłębiłem nieco sloty przez co akcja strun się sporo obniżyła a gitara stała się wygodniejsza. Może kiedyś je wymienię na jakieś solidniejsze :) Schecterów niestety nie miałem w rękach także nie mogę porównać.
@@grzesiekkulpa8735 Dziękuję. Uwagi dla mnie bardzo cenne, bo większość testów na które natrafiłem w necie skupia się tylko na zaletach. Mimo wszystko gitara trzyma dobrze strój? Tak swoją drogą myślałem jeszcze nad przepiękną gitarą Solar Guitars GC 2.6 TBR SC , ale cena mnie trochę stopuje (i brak blokowanych kluczy - choć można zmienić w przyszłości).
Tak strój trzyma dobrze, klucze są blokowane i nic im nie brakuje, ja zawsze przed założeniem strun smaruje również grafitem z ołówka sloty w samym siodełku przez co struny się w nim nie blokują przy wajchowaniu. Sam most wygląda solidnie także najsłabszym elementem jest tutaj siodełko ale mimo wszystko powajchować trochę można ;)
Oba brzmią dla mnie bardzo podobnie, ale może przez to że nie słucham na żadnym audiofilskim sprzęcie. Chinol jakby na wiolinowych strunach trochę szybciej wygasał, ale to może być tylko moje wrażenie nie do końca zgodne z tym co tam się dzieje. Fajny test :). Chyba na pierwszym mierniku chiński miał niższe cyferki ale nie wiem czy to dobrze czy źle :)
Cieszę się że się podobało, co do pierwszego miernika to jedynie rezystancja uzwojenia i tak chiński ma nieco niższą, oznacza to że będzie miał troszkę słabszy sygnał na wyjściu, to nie wada A jedynie cecha konstrukcyjna i różne pickupy mają różna w zależności od zastosowania. Pozdrawiam ;)
Hey bro is it possible to tune it in drop d without changing the tuning of other strings?
Whole bridge will go down whenn you tune to drop so you need to tune all strings after
Do you know how to clean the rust that forms on top of the seymour duncan?
Never tried to clean them, maybe try high graded water-based paper?
Wow, there isn't a big difference. Considering the price difference the VTONE looks like a good budget pickup.

Z chińskich miałem tylko te Vtone i Lundgren Design i jedne i drugie grały spoko :D

The China copy sounded very good, so good that I could live with them but it's a little more fun when it says Seymour Duncan on them. How ridiculous I am ..))
Excelente comparativa amigo, en mi opinion, en los tonos clean el Duncan tiene un poco mas de cuerpo, mas profundidad en el low end, pero ya con gain, ambas capsulas suenan un 98% parecidas, quizas la cubierta de la VH4 te afecte.. pero gran comparativa amigo.. saludos.
I would dare say the Chinese copy sounds better. But could you rather sample noise levels when you overdrive the tone? I think that is more important than anything else.

Potrzebuje taniego picka do pacyfiki. Zastanawialem sie nad tym Vtone. Fajnyte test zrobiles. Podpowiesz ? Brac go czy raczej dozbierac i cos z DMarzio brac. Zaznaczam ze tylko do domu potrzeba. Zaciekawiles mnie tym testem. Pozdro 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Jeżeli do domu to moim zdaniem coś z VTONE spokojnie wystarczy. Moim zdaniem rożnica przy tych pikapach i firmowych wychodzi przy graniu na dużych głośnościach (próby /koncerty) gdzie te markowe są po prostu lepiej wykonane przez co mniej sprzęgają. W domu moim zdaniem bez różnicy i najlepiej chyba zacząć poszukiwania właśnie od VH4 :) Pozdrawiam!

Na mocnym przesterze chwyty barowe slychacladnie od badowych do violinowych co oznacza ze nienajgorzej z tym pickuem. Trashowe kostkowanie z przeskakiwaniem strun a'la Slayer naprawde mnie zaskoczylo. Slychac wszystko, klarownie i z fajnym charakterem. Dzwiek wrdlug mnie mocny, zwart i taki jakby sterylny. W polaczeniu z marshalkiem i kopia RAT'a mam dzwiek zblizony do Obituary. Podejrzewam, ze galkologia wyciagnie z tego pickupa jeszcze kilka ciekawych rzeczy. Za 83 zl rewelacja. On this VTONE there is know SD logo but I know that you can find copies with logo also

expensive pickups are the biggest scam in the guitar world. I always change out ceramics for Alnico, but that's because I don't like high output pickups that are overly bright & trashy sounding.
Honestly, I could not tell the difference. 99% of people wouldn't be able to distinguish them in a blind test. The Chinese knock-offs are of course about 1/5 the price. your choice

They are the same design. One is assembled in china. I could do a video with the names switched and most would say the name brand sounds better. Get rid of your egos.
Seymour Duncan are overpriced machine wound pickups. Honestly if the wire type, amount of winds, and magnet is the same on a humbucker. it's pretty easy to clone since scatterwinding by hand makes absolutely no difference with a humbucker.
Single coils are another story, and most of their single coils sound sterile. Duncan pups are a rip off!
