  • Do you do groundwork for your horse? Do you do groundwork to gain respect? Do you have a young horse and want to do groundwork to help with your horse's training?
If you answered yes to any of these LOOK OUT that you don't bore the hell out of your horse. You may even make them angry and send their training backwards if you drill them with your groundwork exercises.
In this video, I show you how I use groundwork every day to help and educate my horse but I NEVER bore or drill my horse. Groundwork is about education not and it is not about repeating the same exercise over and over again. How boring for the horse!!

Groundwork is an important part of your horse's training BUT it is not about repeating the same exercises over and over again and boring your horse to death!

Thanks, Josie. Agree it’s important to normalize good ground manners without making it like making kids their least favorite veg! Your explanations were super clear as ever!

So true. It is obvious when my colt is starting to get bored so we switch to playing with his ball or something else. He has locking stifles and the vet recommended ground poles for 10 to 15 mins pretty much every day. I would jog over them with him. Let's just say we both are over poles but we are doing fantastic strengthen wise haha.

Perfect! At times I feel guilty like I should be doing more groundwork with my yearling. My horses are at home with me. They are handled daily. I taught my yearling to ground tie. I can walk up to him anywhere and pick up his feet and clean his hoofs. I give him a small amount of feed every morning in his outdoor shelter. I've taught him to wait outside until I say he can go into the shelter to eat. He is cross-tied outside with two posts. We don't have a barn here, just run in shelters. You work with what you have. I am watching all your videos Thank you so much for helping us and keeping me on track.

Mary you are doing a perfect job. Youngsters only have a short attention span too so we need to keep it simple and quick for them. Just like we do with young humans 😊

I just found your channel and I'm so grateful I did! I rode for years and had a horse when I was younger, now I'm an adult looking to get back into that passion but its been a while.I love how healthy and content the horses in your videos look :) cheers!

Your videos are awesome!!! I think I may be boring my horse. Can I still do groundwork but switching exercises ? Or is it better to do religion on horse, right now I'm trying to get my horse collected and on the bit, how would I go about doing that on his back but by keeping him engaged and not bored?

Please show your exercises with inexperienced horses! Watching a well trained horse is not the same.

You are right it's not but this video was sharing my thoughts and is not an actual training video. I share a lot of untrained ones in Basic Horse training Academy 🙂
