can you do a competition on yellow gold watches?
I told someone I paid $500 for a watch , they were shocked most people have no idea .
A surprisingly high amount of people think you can buy a Rolex or omega with 500$
@@LaurentiusTriarius a work colleague at my work has this mentality of "just did enough resesrch" so in terms of watches, he thinks there's only 2 routes, either a seiko or rolex.
One day another colleague (let's call them #2) once showed up at work with a beautiful Grand Seiko elegance. I told colleague #1 about it since he liked seiko and lo and behold, he goes "what do you mean they're around 8k, I've seen them go for around 800". That's how you know some people do bare minimum research and think they know things
@@trcs3079 Dunning-Kruger-effect on display... I don't even know how you can look at a Grand Seiko and think "Yea, that's about 800" smh...
@@overdose9365 once he said this, "there's only seiko and then rolex, there's no in between". That's when i knew he didnt know horology ahaha
As much as I am a fanatic of the Seiko and Orient dive watches because they were, and still are, my gateway into the world of watches, I have to give my vote to Tom for bringing up some less obvious picks that I had not heard about before. Sorry Andrew! Thanks a lot for covering some affordable watches!
My first proper 'luxurious' watch was a Casio duro. Even seiko's on special cost $400 here in Australia. I'm a college student and don't have cash to burn. For just under $200 AUD I got the blue dial 'bluro' and a decent Ali Jubilee bracelet. I love looking at this thing, and with a few other cheap Casio digitals (ca53, a168, f105) it's a nice little collection for under $350
Holy moly, the Duro only costs $50 here in the US. When I go visit Oz I'll bring a suitcase full of Duros with me.
Luckily got my blue duro for $40 USD at a Walmart
Congrats on opening your brain further than your wallet.
Really? How can it be so expensive? In Indonesia it cost around IDR 900k - 1.200k or around AUD80 - AUD120
Yep just got the two tone casio duro I might end up buying all the color options they have and I wish they had more!
Who needs you guys when the man from Vincero guarantees he can sell me a quality watch for under $200?
Ong 😂
Haha
💩for the wrist
You had me in first half NGL.
Well obviously because they cut out the middleman ... 😏
Really like the Geckota and the Avi-8. Thanks for the great watch selection, and the insightful (and funny) commentary!
I'm wearing the Invicta right now, almost by necessity. I've had it around 10 years now and it's remarkably still working and keeping respectable time. I say by necessity as within that 10 year time period I've bought other watches that have stopped working and are awaiting repair e.g. an Oris Aquis, Seiko SKX007, Seiko SRPD71K1, Orient Blueray.
For the money, it's hard to beat an Invicta Pro-Diver. I've bought 3 so far. Usually around 70-80 dollars. Grind the branding off, replace the dial and hands, sapphire crystal and you've got a nice looking watch, dependable watch for less than $200. I've been giving them away as Christmas gifts.
I always enjoy when Watchfinder(!!!) showcases affordable watches.
I am happy to see that the Zeppelin GMT is showcased here. I own one of those and I really like it.
I'd like to add the Citizen ProMaster Eco-Drive BN0150-10E. In basic black, ISO certified true dive watch, and under $200. Great spec to price ratio, and taking over where the SKX left off.
Absolutely love the Geckota , such a nice finish and couldn’t take my eyes off it when you showed it with the leather strap , what a lovely watch
They are good looking, I like the aesthetic as well, but their online reviews were not very good when I checked.
Bought my Pro diver last black friday, good stuff
It has few issues like rotating bezel getting stuck if not being used and questionable precision on some day of the month, but apart from that lovely watch
I'm loving these classy voiced budget watch videos.
I'm not a pilot watch fan but I really like the look of the AVI 8. This watch looks as though it has been designed with the utmost care and attention to the details, therefore Tom gets my vote.
AVI-8 are a shockingly bad brand. All poor quality.
@@paulinejackson5861no they aren’t 😂 have you watched any reviews..?
I love it when you do your videos together! I love it when you talk about your own watches you have and what you are thinking of buying.
What a great real-world review. Thank you both.
The Invicta was chosen by me due to the quality of the automatic mechanism, the water resistance, and the ruggedness of the stainless steel watch and bracelet. Not to mention the excellent price point. That it looks superficially like a rolex was actually a negative.
For 200 USD you could buy four Casio Duro's of pure awesomeness 😋👍
Hell yes, wearing my Ray II Raven at this very moment! Anyway, good list, and another fun video. Thanks, guys.
I would’ve gone with the Kamasu V1 instead of the Ray, now that you can readily find them for under $200 with a little bit of digging. Because of that, I’m gonna have to give the win to Tom this time. The Q Timex GMT and the GM2100 were both very strong recommendations.
The gm2100 is an amazing everyday watch if u don't mind its bulk on your wrist, but I think the timex q is horrible value
I got the Orient Ray 2 blue dial, one word, BEAUTIFUL
I can vouch for the Orient. I bang it around all the time and the glass has yet to scratch. It's a good daily.
I love my invicta Prodiver, it's a lot of watch for the money and can take the punishment of everyday wearing
I gotta say I like Tom's selection the best!
What's the name of the diver version of the Seiko 5 SRPG63? It's the watch on the right at 4:09. I've been looking into divers and am considering one but I can't find it. I love the moon dial though.
The Invicta Pro Diver 8926OB is the best value for money mechanical watch on this planet, purchased while discounted (sales occur quite often) at £68 in the UK. Prove me wrong.
The geckota gmt is my favourite watch in my collection, the finish is well above the £200 mark. I’m gonna have to give it to Tom.
I like the Zeppelin. Thanks fellers!
I have to say, that I have already several Seiko's and a Orient (same model but Dark Red background). Currently looking for maybe a Bulova but not the green one. The Avi-8 looked nice.
Question is, how good are the smaller Brands.
They have those Invicta Pro Divers at my local Sams for $90. Might get one just to abuse at work
The Gekota is different and punches above it's weight. Nice
My biggest issue with Invicta is the weak lume. My Orient Ray has excellent lume. Although I like the looks of their dive and feild watches I haven't tried a Citizen yet.
I've owned the bluesy version of the Invicta Pro Diver and the black dial version for several years and they are accurate and good looking watches. Invicta does make some abominations but these watches fantastic options. My Aragon seagull mechanical is a decent but somewhat oversized watch but again accurate and can be had under 100 bucks. For a fun watch I really enjoy my teal faced Vostok amphibia on the orange nato. Though it likes to run a bit fast but it doesn't bother me, it's easily adjusted. I do have the PRX and Hamilton Navy, both are great watches but really, if you can't afford a $600 watch or even a $200, the watches I've mentioned look great and be had for $100 or less if you search some
Where can i find the geckota? Its not on their site..
The Zepplin is cool. I might get one...
Most places that sell Seiko SKX modding bits also have stuff that's comparable with the Orient Ray/Mako. I have a sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel on mine!
The Orient has a sapphire glass. Or is Ray different to the Mako?
There actually is a Terminator themed T3, AP Royal Oak.
Love the citizen sport watch
Both presented some great options. Seiko 5, Timex GMT, zepellin .. I say Andrew by a second.
Proud owner of Invicta Prodriver from 2 years. What a watch it is.. got it for 70$ then
15:47 the date window on that AVI-8 is so deep, I expect a balrog to step out of that thing any second...
That Invicta is ALWAYS $100, and goes on sale for $60-80. Buy one, slap a good bracelet on there and it is a great watch.
The Invicta diver is the most underrated watch here. Which is fine by me: keeps the prices nice and low. The Geckota is nice looking, too.
Since I own 3 of Tom's 5 picks; although in a different color waves for 2, I am going to have to go with Tom for the win easily. I have the same GShock; the Timex GMT but black/blue; and the AVI-8 Carey Dual Time but Rangoon.
Oh the humanity!!! Great reference 🙂
Yes this - I recently watched a Hindenburg doco and the broadcaster sounds so absolutely distraught it breaks my heart 😢
G shock is always the go-to when looking at a quality budget watch
The Autobot reference made me laugh 😂🎉
Always enjoying your content and the format. When these mass produced sub $200 mechanical movement needs service in due time, will the owners pay more then the watch is worth to keep it functioning?
Just speaking for myself here, I would not spend over the price of the watch to get it serviced but instead simply swap the movement of a Seiko 5 (4R36) for a new unbranded NH36 for
@@Beanna_ I agree, swapping the movement is the price efficient option and learning some watch repair is benefit to the owner. The only possible down side I can think of is the dial and it’s features might be different.
The LZ127 was the number for the Graf Zeppelin, which was the most successful Zeppelin ever built and was retired, not reduced to a pile of charred aluminum in New Jersey. Naming it the LZ129 would have been tragic. Both the LZ126 and LZ127 were "retired" and did not meet "disastrous" ends.
Aquatico Bronze Sea Star. On sale under 200. Saphire crystal, automatic Seiko NH35A, bronze or even ceramic bezel. We have here Invicta, so why not try this one?
Still love my Invicta titanium pro diver from a decade ago. Horrible lume haha but the movement is bullet proof.
This is the funniest pairing, yet razor sharp writing, on CZcams. The zeppelin, the worst thing to happen to public transport? We shouldn’t laugh, but we will. We just need a Titanic Chronograph now to complete the set. Love the Invicta Rolex, I have one, with a famous mouse across the dial.
Too soon
Two questions, 1 do I get a prize for spotting the black dial Z127 Los Angeles that you slipped in with the Zeppelin GMT? and 2 Is that really an AV-8 Chronograph? Looks like a dual time watch but maybe the plaque saying "Dual Time" on the dial is spurious 😁
One I would of added is the seagull 1963 chronograph. Just bought one new for 166€
Dude nooo.
Don't pay over 100$ for these watches!
Finally some Orient, i like seiko but i got some time ago exactly the same Ray II, looks cleaner these markers on seiko at 12, 9, 6 have weird line that i dont like
@08:06 Autobot logo / 80's Y fronts from the same era 😂
13:18 made by Ruhla the 2nd famous watchmaker in eastern Germany that had not met a private equity firm to boost their marketing (as some colleagues in glashuette....)
Tom brought the best collection
Pro divers provide the rolex experience while being able to use it for diving. Best gateway watch since Seikos became expensive.
I picked up a new Invicta Pro Diver with a sw200 shipped for $200.
Not sorry Andrew, but Tom gets the nod this time!🤪👍🏼
Chaps. The tragedy was a zeppelin called the Hindenberg just like an ocean liner was called the Titanic. I want one though.
The other Timex referenced with that notorious bracelet deserves the nickname ‘The Brazilian’.
The American Clipper was a classic for about 100 bucks on ebay
I'd also recommend for anyone who likes the Ray to look into the Orient Kamasu Gen 2. It has the same classical round markers of the Ray but a better dial, sapphire crystal, cleaner case and bezel and only marginally more expensive.
I do not think you can buy it for $200. It is rather $300 range.
finally information not for Hodinkee groupies 🧐.. 👏
I love vintage watches but I hate hodinkee. Their special edition junk is just ridiculous, let's not even go into the articles makes me even wonder why you'd want to be in that crowd. I think the number of people who take them seriously is overrated.
Just a slightly pedantic note: A zeppelin is a type of airship, not a specific airship. The 'Hindenburg' was the specific airship that crashed. So it's more like naming something 'Aircraft' rather than naming it 'Concorde Air France Flight 4590'.
Actually zeppelin is just the word for the flying baloon thing in general. Like train / airplane. Vs Hindenburg = Concord.
Overall, I'd have to go with Tom's picks...but that Zeppelin tho
I think you have both done well. I like the Zeppelin. It would be great to see that design in an Automatic. I think Tom just clinched it. The Invicta Pro Diver was the move that lost. I'm not a great fan of the brand's marketing and business practices.
True ... but if you were going to pick one Invicta that get some decent reviews and props it would be the ProDiver.
That said the MSRP to actual sales price annoys me (only one step above Vincero and Filippo Loretti pricing practices imo) and the over branding ... to be fair I'm not a fan when Blancpain does it either.
The Pro Diver and the 1953 are spectacular value propositions. I got both for less than $150 total and they are excellent quality. Invicta's other products and their pricing strategy are odious but the Invictae I have are very good watches for very little spend.
@@SingleTrackMined are the Prodivers also over branded with Invicta on the side of the case? I know they have their name on the dial, logo on the seconds hand counter balance and customized Invicta rotor.
Also how is the bracelet (push pins?), clasp? (Milled or pressed?) And glass? (Flame fusion or sapphire?).
Specs wise they definitely seem up there with the NH35 spec'd Aliexpress watches.
@@karlsenula9495 The Pro Diver has Invicta etched on the side, the 1953 does not. Bracelet is average for the price. Ben did a scratch test and found Flame Fusion is harder than anything except sapphire. These are easily as good quality as Ali brands, imo.
Orient, the answer was Orient.
Did you not notice the airplane on the end of the second hand on the AVI-8?
i like citizen and orient ❤
I lucked out and found a Glycine Combat Sub 42mm for $299.99 at Costco in the United States. ETA 2824 movement, sapphire Crystal, screw down crown and WR of 200M. Can’t beat that for $100 more than the budget set in this video.
Saddens me that the Casioak and not a Square is the go to recommended G Shock now. Less features and a less rugged analog setup.
The Orient Kamasu is $200 and has a sapphire crystal.
Honestly there’s no better value for money, particularly for an automatic, than the Pro Diver. It’s a nice, Malaysian made, Seiko movement in a watch that’s 90% of the finishing of a Seiko 5 for 30% of the price (they’re often available for $59). And depending on the model (the non-OB models or the 1953) you can ditch most of the old 5 digit Submariner knock off from the look too.
I love this watch too. I see it as "some assembly required" because as soon as I get it in the mail, I disassemble it, grind off the branding from the side, and start any other mods I have in mind. My most recent one got the case debranding, a new dial & hands, and that's it.
@@mr22guy soooo... everything that makes sure no one knows you're wearing an invicta....come on! The watch is great as is...yeah! The Invicta engraved on the side is a bit much but get a colour that's not just a Rolex rip off and your good to go....maybe change the hands is the only thing I agree with...Merc hands are a bit naff tbh
I prefer "realistically affordable" rather than "entry level".
Tom wins! He always does!
Gold is the new green
Invicta watches are also disposable. You will never get Invicta to work on it, warranty be damned.
Very close, but I would have choose Tom. He did pick the Timex, right?
The G-Shock, Seiko and Orient are nice - the others don't tempt me
I like these kind of videos. Y’all should collaborate with Jodie from JOMW. Great watches don’t have to cost a bundle.
Unfortunate that i cant find that Geckota anywhere :(
Why not the Kamasu? Sapphire, automatic, proper diver watch. Unique dial colors as well
I feel this is responding to a certain moon related watch
I have two Rolex watches but my favourite is my Sekio 009 Pepsi
i like the hot shot mcfly
seppelline sounds very funny
I'm thinking that if your budget is $200 and you want to get the best from a single watch then it has to be reliable, robust and water resistant. So my last slightly working brain cell would vote for the G-Shock, Depending on where you get one you get one assuming that there is a T1000 that has clocked you it might be worth considering a couple of 5610U G-Shocks that don't have Bluetooth (T1000 can allegedly sniff out radio) and you'll have one to give to the now also wanted companion. So Tom, you win this one.
Can you do a review on my Magico 42mm square SpongeBob carbon fiber automatic stainless on stainless steel watch it weighs in at an impressive whopping 454 G but you can't even feel that it's on your wrist. It is a zero sound watch so you will never hear it moving around on your wrist. I owned my very first one for 26 years and it just recently died on me I have never once had to fix it bring it to the jeweler nothing. No matter what I was doing for 26 years I recently opened up my other two because I originally bought three and I am so happy. 3000 watch for someone on a extreme budget for under $150
As a simple American I can not figure out why I find tall sense of humor so friggin funny 😅
I just can't tell whose selection was better - a cop out, I know - but both Tom and Andrew...
fantastic . Im sick of seeing youtubers showing us tudor black bays and rolex's. At a time when people haven't got two ha'pennies to scratch their ass with this guide comes to the rescue.
As an enthusiast and collector I would like to know how and why is scamvicta on this list
...perhaps because it is a fantastic watch? I have had mine for 17 years now. It has been in cold, hot, and tropic climates. Been under water (apx. 15-20 mtr), in the sand, survived a carcrash and still does not run fast more than 7 seconds a day. Oh yeah, the watch cost me about €75... In my collection there are Seikos, Casios, Tissots, a couple of Oris', 2 Ball, a Baltic, an Omega and a Submariner no date.
Sorry 1%, this video is for us. Cool guys!
This is a very close matchup but I'd like to give the vote to Tom. I may not have that big of an issue with Invicta, but the pseudo Submariner recommended by Andrew does repeat the function and the style of the Orient diver, making the whole collection less diversified. On the other hand Tom has recommended five watches with unique design aesthetics and functions. Sorry Mr. Hand, maybe next time!:)
The Hindenburg was a Zeppelin. The watch is named after the mode of transport, not the actual Zeppelin. It's much more akin to calling a watch company "Ship", not "Titanic".
g-shock g-shock g-shock, marsha marsha marsha, i want to hear about edifice watches if you're gonna talk about casio or under 200 bucks
