If it's too close to the beach, why are we paying for a repair over and over again? Shouldn't they go up to higher ground?
This happens over and over again. If sea levels rise, it may be an unlivable area. I just looked up the flooding history and there are records back to the 1790’s of flooding from multiple weather and sea related issues.

That maybe, but how many times do you rebuild and rebuild? No different than building on a hill, it washes away and people rebuild. So stupid! You know it happens every year, do something about it besides rebuild in the same spot. Sorry to say. Its sad it happens but maybe its beyond time to make some changes.

Capitola Village has been getting flooded all my life. But those businesses on the Esplanade make a lot of money in between rounds of getting flooded and rebuilt.
If this is something that happens on a yearly basis, they need to move the business to keep insurance prices from continuing to rise.
The smart money is on moving to higher ground

There's gonna come a time that insurers will cease flood coverage. They HAVE to! The continuously crazy rising costs of rebuilding IN THE SAME DANGER ZONE will become redundant and mitigation costs prohibitive. Many families have become insurance claim wealthy by buying a Danger Zone Home, losing it year after year only for it to be rebuilt, cars replaced, new furnishings - all thru insurance proceeds. Hopefully the insurance companies will offer a generous coverage option for full relocation rebuilds in lieu of onsite rebuilds as a preferred option.
They did not receive any coverage last time.
So sad. Do they have @Go fund me? I love that coastal town.

The times they are a'changing. Hard as it is for owners to accept, there's no sense sending good money to rebuild places built on eroding sand when sea levels and storms are increasing. Better to help folks set up somewhere else stable.
The fix is called dredging.

Probably Hunga Tonga an underwater volcano that blew up early in 2022 after about a month or so of earth quakes. Iy was one of the most powerful volanos eruptions in the last 100 years andf shot a plume of water vapor in the air 60,000 feet. It has had massive implications with climate and weather. Water vapor makes up 97% of greenhouse gases with CO2 a mere 3%. One should be concerned aboutr the activity in Ice Land as the 536AD event which caused massive climate issues leading to the deaths of aboiut 1/3 of Europeans. It was followed up by other activity over the next few years which caused a 2 century mimi ice age not to be confused with the Little Ice Age 1300 - 1850.

These businesses made tons of money before last year's disaster and they have been doing well since then as well. Weekends are super busy in these estaurants and the hotels. But they still expect handouts from FEMA. really pathetic. Iam glad the insurance companies dropped the insurance policies because it makes no longer makes any sense to operate these danger prone areas. WHy is that Americans think they have to operate businesses right on the shore? And why is that these business think they have to serve beer ,wine,food righht on the beach ? Why can't the beaches just be beaches where everyone jsut relax, lie down and soak in the sun? WH is that the cities thnk they have to monietize every bit of precious land to fund and fatten up their bank and broekerage accounts and accumulate more assets? American Greed is the real threat to the whole planet and the entire civilization.

Nope, but I have visited During weekends. They are making truckloads of money. Most of these businesses don't pay enough taxes on the money they make.
