It's the ocean! Does anyone want to bet me who wins?
Note: I am 63 from California . I remember plenty of houses built on the beach that are not there today .. hmmm
All you have to do is look at what hurricanes do to the Gulf and Atlantic coast. Typically, it's not the wind that is the problem. It's the storm surge due to the high water levels. Water is much more devastating than wind.
For 66 years I lived in Watsonville in Monterey County on a dead end road which ended at the local premier golf couse. Two years ago a levy broke, flooded Pajaro with water up to the eaves of of most of the homes there....I had no water damage but was trapped on a road which dead ended at a local golf course and couldn't leave my home for three days, as there was a three foot deep spot of water on the only road out.
I met and married my wife 13 years ago and all of this time we've made a marriage work while living 210 miles apart, but just two months ago, with the aid of my two very adult sons, we finally consolidated houses. Now, I do observe the mighty Pacific Ocean from our back deck at an elevation of 1100'. No danger of ever flooding here and there are several routes for 'getting out'.
Every clear day will find me with a pair of binoculars closely observing the sunset from our back deck and ever looking for that always ellusive 'green flash.' BHE
Capitola is a VERY wealthy community. They've built mansions and businesses right on the cliffs and the beach. The roads along the cliffs keep eroding and falling in, but they just rebuild them again. Zero pity for these rich fools.
I thought these idiots only go after rich and deep-rooted bloody folks like us. Guess I was correct.
I remember when it was a tiny quaint town. Not much there.
I ain't paying a dime of my money to fix these foolish folks' problems. The Fuher will have to forgo his pension and mansion and tension pedals now.
The thumbnail made it look like someone was building an Ark. I was thinking, oh man, its that bad of a rain huh lol
I learned about erosion in elementary school.
There is no problem, it’s just big waves. Only problem is people brushing up too close to mother nature. Respect your earth, she will respect you.
The tides don’t care about property owners. Let’s hear what a geologist would say.
Read above and stop whining in that. 😮
I guy that studies rocks is gunna tell you what about ocean waves?
"civilization exists with geologic consent"
As the Assyrians would command, thou has shit all over our land in our rivers and in the Moon landing hoax.@@Beginnerreadsthebible
The have no answers either 😮😢
What do you expect living on sand? Use to live in the area
This happens every year in the same places. To never check the weather/radar, history and never have material ready ahead of time to protect your business is ridiculous.
Plywood and two by fours vs. the Pacific Ocean. Who will win? 🤔
Yep!! If plywood was waterproof it would be the top layer on every roof....
Y’all misspelt business
It’s Fox, what can you expect?
"y'all"?
@@namcat53 It’s from the American south. It’s a contraction for “you all”
Whitby and the other owners should sue the Ca. Dept of Insurance for not enforcing insurance coverage providers - given that several state departments have a vested interest inn the tourism and welfare of Capitola.
They need to rezone everything from the surf line to 1 mile in and declare it a wilderness area. Tear everything down except the highways and let nature have the beach back.
Florida first.
100% with you on that.
And bring back unicorns right? Try living in reality.
Nature will take what it wants regardless of what civil process does.
@@unclesven4515 Right. Wait a minute? What?
Waves crashing on your beach front property is about as close to reality as it gets… lol
These busineses made millions and millions over the past so many years. And I bet FEMA gave these businessees gave them tons of money for the disaster hat happened in the early part of 2023. and who knows they got money from insrance companies too. But money is never enough and they keep complainging while their workers make minimum wages plus tips from generous customers. Rich people never have enough moey and they keep complaining to get mre out of the their ciites ,states adn the federal govt. They are a giant money sucking machine.
You're making things up again. If you're that worked up about the issue you may want to start with Florida.
@@higgs923 lol Florida needs to take care of their own issues. As we Californians need to take care of ours.
@@fieryvoice3735 what are you so worked up when I state factual things. This is an AMerica wide issue. Why do you think this is just a california issue.Greed is a very very pervasive issue in America.
@@kanank13 not worked up at all.
@@fieryvoice3735 sorry my reply should have been to higgs923 not you. I agree with your response. Woke higgs923 is trying to divert the discussion instead of giving a reasonable response. Sorry
People shouldn't be allowed to continue building on a shrinking coastline.
If they want to why not let them. No one is forcing them. You gonna pay their bills?
All coastline will shrink, that’s how erosion works😭. People have always built on the coast always will. If the coasts move so do we always have always will.
Florida wants a word.
The hours are endless on my business, and then I make dogs drink my piss. And you can't respect us, old folks. What gives?
@@hunterxcraft8328 yup people always have. They found ruins thousands of years old of settlements on ancient coastlines that are now underwater. Nothing new.
“Visitors” to California 😂😂😂
What store?
Mother Nature will break you one way or the other. That all depends on you.
“ Mother Nature will break you one way or another…”
Please explain then how that would depend on “you?” 🙄
Do dumb things, receive dumb prizes 😂.
Boy oh boy that plywood is easily moved once that water arises! Time to build a higher thicker wall - do something
A mostly peaceful storm.
Why does the thumbnail look like they're building an ark?
Sorry, stop causing the problem. 😅
Can you say you built your house too close to the beach
Hope the storm doesn’t damage this really nice place.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
"LOOK FELLAS! A BUNCH OF FREE PLYWOOD AND 2X4'S! LET'S GO!!!!"
Maybe it’ll wash some of the shit off the streets! Oh wait, didn’t gruesome newsom just do that? 😂
I don't wanna sound like a negative nelly but Dads should really dial it back on the surfing
No issue Nelly, people like you make stupid comments everyday. Today was your day. 🙄
What do you do? What do you mean what do you do? Bro you called sanitation department and tell him you got an abandoned trailer on your street then they come down there with the truck enforcement division in the tow truck from sanitation or the NYPD and they told the trailer over to the scrap yard
It is funny how god punishes the evil and the wicked.
Love you bunches Capitola. I wish you well in the storm.
Look at her clothes, it says everything about her...
Dost thine typist practice good spelling?
business....KTVU.
This global warming sea rise thing wasn't supposed to start happening until 2090 or so, at least that's what my climatology professor told me back in 1986. Guess he was wrong. I was kind of hoping to have moved on before all the bad stuff started to happen.
Guess what, storms happen. You'll be fine. Try going outside.
Capitola and coastal areas have had this issue dating back before the 50's, when development expanded to the narrow-unprotected shorelines. This is not unprecedented.
If you have a glass of water with lots of ice cubes, does the glass overflow when the ice cubes melt?
The earth goes through changes, always has, always will.
You're kidding, right? Global warming alarmists have been warning this is going to happen in 10 years for several decades since over a hundred years ago.
And I'm not convinced this is happening due to global warming. It's been colder in a lot of areas then it has been for decades.
@@bobbrown9158 I learned something...Thanks!
