My mother had this car is a metalflake dark blue that was gorgeous. It was so big inside it would sit mom, dad and us three kiddos in the backseat with room to spare. I will always remember the style, elegance and raw power of this behemoth. The hood alone was about 6feet long. Good times!

I ALWAYS loved this particular year Monte Carlo. My uncle owed one, that he bought brand new in late 76. It was triple red, with the 350 engine. It was a real head turner back in the day.

Yep my high school car,1974 landau 350 4barrel antique white with black vinyl top, inside black swivel seats, console, tilt, power windows/locks cruise. As for tires I pulled the rally added air shocks with chrome creigers with deep dish (60's) rears.
Man I wish I could find another one.
    Would be priceless to me
Nice video tho!! Thank you for the time memories

I remember these well. My brother-in-law bought a new M C (burgandy with a white vinyl roof) in 977. Smooth and quiet.
I chuckle at you "young guys" who panic with amazement that a car doesn't have power windows. Until the early 2000s power windows were very RARE. Except for luxury vehicles (Cadillacs, Buick Electra 225s, etc) power windows were seldom seen or desired.

I am looking at this video on 8/25/23.
And I know this 77 Monte Carlo is long gone.
The prices of classic cars are thru the roof now days.
This one for $11,000 and the condition it appears to be in seems well worth it.
Everything working except the AM/FM 8 track, which I would replace ASAP, the rally wheels, swivel bucket seats and a console are hitting all the bells for me.
The driver seat and head liner replacement would make this a perfect driver a few days a week to work, and weekend car shows.
And I would have them fix the roof weld Pop !
Stuff like this is giving me hope that I can still afford a nice classic car, I would like, from my youth with out spending over $50,000 !!!

In 1980 I was 20 years old, the 1977 Monte Carlo was my all-time favorite car. I bought this car for just over $8000 which was a lot of money but to me it was worth it it was called triple black black exterior leather black interiors And black vinyl roof power everywhere it was gorgeous. The only problem I met a girl and when she found out that I love that car more than her she made sure that I would never love that car again I was heartbroken I always wanted to replace it never had the opportunity or the money to do it but I remember that beauty

Got to back a perfect one like this out of a shop today and then get quite a 70+ mile ride in a 68 Charger 440 that makes 600+ HP 3.54 posi. Manual valve body. Titanium planetaries. Steel drum. That thing goes. Don't know how many times I seen 7500RPM and the thing that impressed me most was with the torsion bar suspension, clamped springs, and QA1 shocks adjusted, mickey Thompson tires, just hardly any sideways on the launch. I could tell you all about the stuff under the hood but this isn't the place. But I kept thinking how premium the Monte Carlo is backing out and putting it away. Beautiful car!

My all time fav!! My stepfather had one and he was giving it to me after I got out of basic training. Upgraded to a 400 block, and man did I love driving it. Graduated and went to the basic and my brother totaled it in less than 9 weeks. Been trying to find one every since. Very nice and would love to find one in that great of shape.

Bought one new in July of 77. It was silver with black cloth interior. Mine had the week 305 engine. With the air conditioning on it had a hard time getting out of its own way. A 350 would have been a much better choice. Other than the week 305 engine, the car rode extremely well and was quite going down the road. I never drove it in the winter and was garage kept until I sold it back in 1998 for 5000 dollars. It had 35,000 miles on it. Sense it was driven so little the last 5 years, the seals in the transmission started to leak. The buyer didn't seem to care, he intended to drop a big block into the engine bay and a turbo 400 automatic transmission. I never saw the car after I sold it, so I am not sure what the new owner actually did with it. If I remember correctly, the car listed for around 6400 dollars. If I could have a dream car, it would be a 1970 SS 454 LS6 Chevelle with a four speed. Now, those were the days of great cars right from the factory. My older brother bought a new 1970 SS Chevelle 454 LS5 with a four speed. It was cranberry red with black bucket seats and console. He wanted a LS6 so badly, but none were available when he bought his in July of 1970. It was a beautiful car. I can remember going with my brother to the dealership into the parts department. On the wall behind the counter was a sigh stating that a Cheverolet 454 LS6 crate engine could be purchased for 1100 dollars. My brother was planning on making the engine change, but his Chevelle was stolen from the GM plant parking lot he was working at. The sad part of it was, he just made his last payment just before it was stollen. Weeks later, it was found in Detroit and the whole front clip was gone. Engine and trans were gone too. He was devastated to say the least. Yes, if I had my choice of any car, it would be a numbers matching 1970 LS6 Chevelle with a four speed.

1977 would be a VERY confusing year for GM's full-size & intermediate cars, like the Monte Carlo shown here, as the downsizing of the full-size cars brought them down to exactly the same size as the intermediates. The 1973-1977 General Motors Colonnade coupes were already breathtakingly beautiful to begin with, but there is just SOMETHING about a Grand Prix or Monte Carlo that does things to me that would make me violate CZcams's Community Standards/Terms of Service if I were to post them here!!!!!

Custom fiberglassing some ground effects for my 73. 468 baby roller, 9" custom rear tubular. As well as tubular fronts. More traditional front spoiler. And an 80s ss rear spoiler. Tucked bumper as well. And custom grill! Cant wait to see how she turns out! Thanks! Stole some inspiration from this beaut. Check out my community tab for some pics!

The 73 to 77 were the best. In 78 they killed them. Then they sort of came back in the mid 80s. Then they went to t front wheel drive and that was the end.

My brother William had a Montey Carlo convertible, great car ! But in those days the industry was'nt concerned with airodynamics. Front end styling was straight up causing an aeir ballast that would work AGAINST the spreed horsepower

I've seen a custom built 3rd gen Monte convertible in Indianapolis. Tommy Lee from Motley Crue has a 1st gen convertible Monte. But I've never seen a second gen convertible and Chevy never made any gen Monte convertible available to the public.
I believe there aren't any 2nd gens because of the shape of the back window.
Maybe your brother had a Chevelle or Cutlass?

  • @joeseeking3572
    @joeseeking3572 Před rokem +2

Much better w/o the bodyside molding and the whole design suffered (rather badly) post-75 when it lost the single headlamps and went with the then en vogue vertical stacked (everyone was doing that on mid-size stuff - so 'modern' - blech). The Monte only became a T bird competitor post 77 when the Thunderbird was repositioned, and while the Monte did outsell the new 'Bird, it was about 410k units vs 320k - they were both very, very popular. Interestingly, the T-bird pulled almost even with the downsized 78 Monte. Normally I think your prices are pretty good, here, not so sure; maybe it does reflect the nostalgia factor or the repaint, but too many flaws for 12k in my quite possibly misguided opinion.
