    Remember going to scrap yards every sunday morning , taking parts from cars stacked 3cars high lol getting parts for my mk1 escorts back in the late 80s and 90s. Unusual to see it is still allowed to this day. Great place 👌

    • @mikemartin2957
      @mikemartin2957 Před rokem +5

      & I think it should always be allowed, as getting useable parts of a car that's scrap is the ultimate in recycling & keeping motoring costs down.as long as you don't have to be a mountaineering expert to climb up too high a car pile😂

    • @procta2343
      @procta2343 Před rokem +1

      @@mikemartin2957 the yard that just closed down local to me, used to stack them like that, the owner or the worker, said use the ladders lads, dont climb up on them. But we used to climb up on them anyway. Still had to be on your metal around them lol, but what fun we had, even having a bit of a crack on with the owner or the worker at the time. Getting to know you and a little discount here and there, not to mention the 5 percent one.

    Brings back memories of going to the scrapyard with my dad. No health and Safety BS. Imagine if you will a small disabled kid walking on two sticks being allowed to roam freely round with cars stacked high swaying in the wind.
    I was that kid and I lived to tell the tale.
    We’d always go to the chippy afterwards, good times.

    I had a one like that, which just closed down last year sadly, yards like that are becoming very rare now sadly. Shame you couldn't have gone further in, but as you say, you don't want to over stay your welcome. Very surprised that there was a mk2 escort! id have thought that would have been bailed some years ago, But then again, things as old as that, may have been in the yard for well over 30 years and just left, and the newer stuff has basically hidden it. Also another yard me and my mate used to go to, had the common cars, like 8 years to 10 at the time, maybe the odd newer car in. They used to put the much older stuff up the top of the hill. We spent more time up there, than we did getting the parts for our cars, We were always amazed to see what had been brought in, some right old rare bits of kit, two Austin princesses , the cans were worth a few quid, i later found out, i could have sold those, me and my mate missed a trick there sadly. They crushed them practically intact too, i do also remember a cortina Mk4 saloon in, mind that was rotten as a pear. We had a sniff around it, and pushed down on the rear of it, and the backend just collapsed. Not sure if the shell had split in half or the chassis connecting the rear axle just gave way, it was that rotten. Looked like it was a possible restore project that was far to gone to save sadly. It was like buying a round of drinks at that yard, what you got all together lads ? some of it was 30 quid onwards, he used to look and say just giz a tenner.
