    When my son died, I couldn’t focus on anything but doing nothing made me want to jump out of my skin. Colouring saved me. Kept my hands busy while my mind was able to zone out.

      I also lost a son over 6 years ago now he was 27 .its so hard to loose a child .

    Thank you! Here's a tip for those who like crayola markers. They are water soluble! So if you use them on watercolour paper they kind of act like watercolour if you add water. It depends on the watercolour paper. Also if you add water then you need some kind of marker or tool that is not watersoluble if you don't want those other parts to get watercoloury/blurry

    These are awesome Nicole. I just do not understand why people feel the need to leave mean and hurtful comments. Good for you that you have found something that can bring you peace and comfort during this sad time in your life. I had never heard of this type of art before and I love it because I love to color and doodle. Thank you so much for introducing me to a wonderful new form of art! I am going to Boston next week to be with a friend having knee surgery and now I know what I will bring with me to work on....a book to doodle in and color while I am waiting for her surgery to be over.       I agree, it is sad that people feel the need to be so mean. Perhaps they are unhappy in their own lives? With that being said, thank you, Nicole, for providing great videos and helping me find an outlet for some sadness in my life. This art form keeps my mind busy. 😊

      I have to say that I watch lots of tutorials and yours is the most relatable I’ve seen because when you pulled out that box of “kid” markers, I was thinking, “finally someone who makes brilliant art with the same tools I actually have at home!” ❤

    Thank you for demonstrating the process. As a retired art therapist-you are right on with the meditative calming effect this provides. You add color if and when you want. The two parts of creating is process & product. Not worrying about the end result takes courage and is extremely beneficial. Thank you!

    I work with children and have been teaching them neurographic art. I have a small group of about 4 children that are so into this art that their parents have bought them everything they need as they love it for their children as some are high energy and this is very relaxing and calming...so some very grateful parents. My job done 😊

    I just found your video, and I’ve recently started dabbling with neurographic art. I also lost my dad and was diagnosed with a chronic illness (both a couple years ago) and I’m not quite sure if I’ve ever grieved or accepted all the events that’s happened in my life.     i discovered this while desperatly seeking ways to deal with my panic disorder aka ...wicked bad panic attacks. i had been to ER more times than i could count and paramedics to my house even more times.
    when i found this i would get my book and crayola markers out when i felt an attack coming on it gave my mind somthing to focus on while my body was engaged and moving. the more detailed the image the better it worked.
    i cannot explain how...but it would distract my mind...allowing my body to calm itself....heart rate to slow breathing to slow ect...these attacks also always came with shaking sweating and full body tremor or nerve type buzz under my skin.
    somtimes it would only take an hour somtimes longer...but it was night to day better compared to trying to read or look at my phone and doing the art ALWAYS led to me eventually being able to sleep and stay asleep as most of my attacks came at night...it was my trigger i guess.
    it really does work.

That’s how we find what we like. ❤️ can’t believe people feel you have too much time on your hands… people shouldn’t judge. Art is art! It’s good you have something to use as a “distraction” to the noise around you. ❤️

    Too many people out there don't understand about therapy, and how important art and craft is to people's mental wellbeing, and I hope you never feel bad when people say daft things like that in their comments. It is a reflection on them, and not on you. (((Hugs)))
    That detailed one with the circles is stunning! The are all amazing, actually, but that one - wowzer!
    I am going to be 60 this year, and I used to do these as a child. I didn't know they were therapeutic. I just knew that I loved to do squiggle lines and colour in the result. I also used to do lightning bolts up and down and then across and colour those in too.
    Then nothing for decades, except when showing my kids ideas like this for them to try out, but thanks to you and your FB group and other YT contributors I am back in love with this artform and benefitting from the anxiety relief it offers. :)

    Neurographic art has been life-changing for me in terms of meditative creativity. The meditative colouring books just stressed me out, because I felt constricted by the existing line drawing that I was simply putting colours into - the only 'creativity' came from which colours I chose to put where, which wasn't enough for me. Then I tried reverse colouring, but that also stressed me out for the opposite reason; I had no clue what to do with the blotches of colours and just ended up overwhelmed by the infinity of choices. But neurographic art is the perfect middle ground; there are enough 'rules' to follow that you can feel like you can create something that'll look decent in the end, but there's still enough freedom within those 'rules' to experiment and make something that's completely your own.

    Back in the mid 1960's, I remember doing this in elementary art class. The Teacher put on some smoothing music and we could only use 3 colors, but no 2 sections connecting or next two each other could be of the same color. This rule makes you plan carefully.

    I’m glad you made the distinction of calling it Neurographic Art and not Neurographica which has a scientific method and set steps to follow. Some people even choose to simplify it further and just call it Neuro Art. I love your drawings and they are very artistic. May I make a small suggestion to take from Neurographica that will really push the mindfulness aspect of your art, and that is to round all intersections before you add pattern. So say 4 lines cross each other making an x shape, on each corner of that intersection you would round it by making a small curve or arc from one side to the other in each section and colour to match your lines. Some other things you could try are using different line weights, so heavier lines to highlight sections and less heavy where you don’t want to put emphasis. You could also try using a highlighting pattern in some sections or colouring highlighted sections deeper or using tones to create a 3d effect to distinguish them from other sections.
    Just some ideas that may build on the beautiful work you have done. Oh, another fun way to make your lines is to put a coin at the edge of the page pushing it with your pen and following the twists and turns it makes. You can’t predict the line this way. Try more from different edge points and stop when you are satisfied with the amount of lines you have. This is really freeing if you are unsure how you want to make your lines move and intersect.

    I just found the term neurographic art out, to find out I've been doing this 30 years or so. It was middle school and I am 44. It is indeed soo relaxing. The Mr. Sketch markers are genius.

    Thank you so much for sharing the process with us. I don't know that I'm patient enough to do it, but I may give it a try. I love, love, love the ones you have done! I did try doing the lines of color like you did on the first page of your composition book - epic fail, lol! As for the comments left by people saying you have too much time on your hands - ignore them. Unless and util they have walked a mile in your shoes . . . KWIM? Keep on keeping on! It's day 40 for me (since I lost my man) and keeping on keeping on is all I know how to do right now. Grief sucks!!!

      I am sorry for your loss. If you try this again you will discover a rhythm and time will slow or speed up to meet your personal needs. You never have to finish a page and you are never wasting paper or ink. You will find your signature look and feel. And when you look at the piece you will recall memories and meaning. Take extra care of yourself, take things on your time frame, ignore bad advice, and keep good boundaries. Warm soft hugs.

    My art teacher in high school taught us this, not remembering he called it neurographic. This has been one of my go-to doodles since. (Lol, I graduated in 1981!) You are right, this is relaxing. Kudos to you

    I just found this type of art, it's much like I used to do as a child but learning the theory behind it has been interesting. I understand how it's been helpful for you dealing with the loss of your dad, my condolences. I had to watch lots of horse videos to deal with my grief, my dad was a horse whisperer. I am finding these so soothing and calming and cathartic if I am angry. So simple, yet so helpful. Never give the toxic people room in your head, I find this hard too and I find doing this art keeps me in the moment, not thinking about toxicity or negativity. Well done, thanks for posting.

    When I draw my original lines, I saw a video where the lady suggested that you can be very mindful about the process by thinking to yourself "Everytime my brain wants the line to go one way, force mysef to draw it the other way." It really adds another level to getting in the zone!

    I've been doing this at night for the past week or so and it has helped me with my anxiety and it slows my brain down and it has helped me sleep because I'm so calm by the time I'm done for the night. My father recently passed away (I'm sorry you lost your daddy too) and this truly has helped me process. I love your works too. Thank you for sharing this and sharing aspects of your life that it has helped you with.

    Just found you after doing an art class tonight and was introduced to Neurographic Art and loved it. You were the first person who came up on a search. I'm so sorry for your loss of your dad.     What some folks might not realize, this is a PRACTICE, not perfection. It is NOT for public consumption. For me it is like prayer. If I love a piece, I might archive it. If it is just a meditation I might use bit of it in a collage. I also do this over journal entries, so the writing becomes part of it, but is unrecognizable. I know what I want as working through, and I can complete the process of creating and personal discovery. If you only create with your eye on the clock, expecting to produce a finished product every time you sit down at your art space, you will be sorely disappointed and quit. That would make most of us very sad. Creatives want to support and inspire one another. It is another creative act!
    Please look at other expressions by other creators, just as you would when learning about any process or idea.
