    Helping others prep for a multiday... bounce between two locations that are not that far from your base/transport or if something happens, some think they need to go out in a line and they keep thinking about the what ifs.

    I’ve been playing around with spreadsheets for gear and food for years but yours is next level. I will definitely use the food one, just have to populate it with my personal favourites. Keep the great ideas flowing.

    Great video, appreciate all your other videos too
    I especially like these planning videos, not enough of them on YT, everyone likes gear, me included 😅 but planning is key and not enough channels focus on it!! Keep it up, even as a fellow Tassie hiker I always see a few great tips from you, always learning 👌🏻

    Brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻
    I have utilised so many of your tips into streamlining my packing.
    18 months ago - a 20kg pack for 7 days. Now a comfy 16kg makes such a difference. Every trip you reevaluate what was unnecessary or a must have! 👍🏻

      Fantastic! 16kg sounds like a dream! My pack for my Eldons trip in a few days is getting a bit silly!

    Love the idea of an app. The thing that has driven me away from doing this in the past is time (and a degree of laziness 😂) to gather all the food weight and calorie information. It would be terrific it it was either pre populated with food details or allowed easy adding by scanning the label/barcode?? As for payment, we’d all prefer free but a one time only is next best, if you believe it would be continuously improved and lower subscription fee may work.

      Good thoughts @goughytas ! Love it. I know someone that does barcode software so will look at that improvement! Cheers!

    Hey Mowser! I'm once again asking your opinion on hiking gear.
    What rain pants do you recommend? I'm from NZ and also like you hike a lot in wet conditions as well as doing a lot of bush bashing.
    My macpac rainpants (I think they are called jet stream) always kept me dry and never ripped from bush bashing, but when doing a beginner alpine course, I accidentally ripped the bottom of my rainpants with the crampons.
    The only things I didnt like about my rainpants were the 1/4 zip pockets making it difficult to quickly put over mountaineering boots, and no pockets (I just want to have my phone or PLB easily accessible).
    I see on your gear list that you use the Patagonia Torrentshell. How does it cope with lots of bush bashing and off track hiking?
    Thanks in advance if you respond :)

      I used to looove the Arc’teryx Zeta SL pants but they weren’t up to the bashing I gave them. The torrentshell are good so far and seem pretty durable. But have only used them a few times. I have used Mont Austral pants a lot and they are extremely tough and durable and are a good all round pick. Also have the Arc’teryx beta AR pants and while extremely durable the zips are short and I have to take my boots off to put them on which is annoying. At this stage I’d say mont austral are most durable out of what I have used in the past 5 years. None of these really have much in the way of pockets. I tend to rely on pockets in my jacket or vest. And maybe the beta at would be better vs crampons?

    Wow you are so organised that I feel completely haphazard in comparison! I am thinking of going on a hike next week (I am in New Zealand) and I haven't really booked or arranged anything yet. Sometimes I go almost on spur of moment if weather looks good..........Mind you if I am hiking solo, I usually stick to tracks and don't really need to use maps much to figure out the route. Thanks so much for your informative content

      @mowsertas  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks! Only go into this level of detail for the big off track ones or ones that are completely new to me. Definitely have those spur of the moment ones but still do a brief itinerary for those!

    ... Do you not factor in fuel consumption in meal planner ?? Per meal ? ,, per day ?? .... Preferred size of canisters packed ?? ..

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  Před 3 měsíci

      I only need to boil water for each heated meal and having done many trips of a similar length with similar food I know that, with our chosen stove, we will go through approximately 1 x 226g isopro canister for a 9 day trip between 2 people. We always take 1 additional canister as backup. As a rule of thumb we carry 1 canister per person for 9 days. This also allows for at least 3 hot drinks each per day
