seganutt You and me both. I guess I can be considered a Sega fanboy. I had all the Sega consoles. Master System, Genesis, 32x, Sega Cd, Saturn, and Dreamcast. Sega games just had a certain appeal to them. Still play my Saturn, Genesis, and Dreamcast regularly. 32x, not so much. lol
Sega was always pretty cutting edge, but always a bit too far ahead of their time. If they didn't try to keep the Genesis alive with stupid add-ons, and didn't botch the Saturn launch they might still be around.
@@victor.elkins I think the launch certainly contributed, but I agree about certain games. And in with not having a flagship Sonic title and all the issues they had with Sonic Xtreme, that was one of the major reasons.
Still remember reading about it on the Channel 4 teletext gaming news section and thinking the name was kind of awful, but it sure did grow on me in the years to come. Shenmue was all I needed. Still such a unique and immersive game.
I remember reading that early pre development started with the Dreamcast in mind, but I'm sure Konami had a major role in it not happening. They were among a handful of devs that had a short list of games for DC and no further plans beyond that unless it proved successful (Namco and THQ also come to mind from this outlook). They were right unfortunately, the DC was gone before MGS2 was finished.
It's surprising to see Toshiaki Kawada 5:06 and Kenta Kobashi 5:14 were also there they were in the Wrestling games called Giant Gram AJPW 2 and Giant Gram 2000 which were released only in Japan for the Sega Dreamcast and the Sega Naomi
It’s sad that third party developers didn’t care and after Sony released the ps2 with DVD capability then there was no point to use the Dreamcast the most memorable game I remember playing was taxi 🚕
alejandro andriadse not really true. nintendo destroyed its self and sega with not adding a dvd player to dreamcast also helped. Nintendo made sony create the ps1
I wouldn't say the GameCube's graphics were "much better" than the Dreamcast. There were plenty of beautiful games on both consoles. Also, the GameCube launched in Japan nearly 3 years after the Dreamcast, so naturally it was more powerful.
Really? Instead of Sonic or something iconic, they decided to go with the disembodied head of a Sega official? Was this a cry for help? Was this a sign that read "Please buy it or this is what will happen to all of us here at Sega"? I loved Sega back in the early 90s but after reading about all of their blunders, they deserved everything that happened to them. It'd be understandable to make one mistake and learn from it but they just continuously shot themselves all through out the mid 90s to 2000. Out of all my friends at school, friends that lived around my apartment complex and my cousins. only like 2 kids had a Dreamcast. Everyone else had PS2 or were still playing N64 and PS1. I still to this day, don't know anyone who ever owned a Saturn. Sega goofed but I'll always love the Genesis, their only good console.
Having a realistic face in real time was a huge deal back then. Heck, even lip movement was very impressive back then. This was a great way to show of the power of the hardware.
Great slice of history! Wish it had english subtitles though.
5:30 Hideo Kojima!
Wow i still have my Japanese dreamcast i remember seeing this in saturn official magazine god i miss sega hardware

Do you know of anyone who has footage of the Sonic Adventure announcement event?

He practically killed the Dreamcast singlehandedly with the MGS2 demo (even though it was going to die anyway)

I mean is MGS2 even possible on DC? I suppose we'll never truly know, but it does make me wonder.

Sega is coming back with the their new console! Doraemon cast!
小的时候经常看哥哥玩这款游戏机,后来才知道我们玩的游戏都是盗版(因为中国那时候没有正版游戏,都是盗版),印象最深的游戏就是病血,生化危机维罗妮卡,莎木,机器人大战

True but with Nintendo and Sega or without, Sony had started slowly planning to enter the gaming market by the mid to late 80's.
Running a lot of alcohol and candys in that presentation. Check out these faces.
Hi friend could you tell me where you got this video from please?
Thank you

vf3tb, segarally2 shit than arcade, The mess-level transplant of the two major titles decided the future of Dreamcast too quickly
