- This week we are RVing to Dodge City Kansas and starting our EPIC cross country trip for Christmas break! While in Dodge the winds and temps were SO cold we had frozen pipes most of the time.
We did not get to explore as much and get to see some of the things we would’ve liked to have seen while we were there as we were really only there for Christmas day and everything was closed but we did drive around the town and check out all the statues and all the building murals .
Don’t miss next week as we go to Pueblo Colorado and have a campground shooting with attempted murder!!! and we drive scary roads cross some scary bridges and go to Pikes Peak!

This week is the start of our 16 day epic cross country trip to Kansas, Colorado, and South Dakota!
Have you ever done a 4K miles plus trip in 16days? Comment below!!
I feel your water pain. My toy hauler finally thawed out today (1/24/24) I'm in the mountains of Virginia near where the Blue Ridge Parkway turns into Skyline Drive. I'm learning a lot of our friends are trying out the RV life. Yvonne has her own channel too. RV Chick i believe is her channel. I love the history lesson. Keep them coming.
Yeah we pretty much dealt with the frozen pipes throughout the whole trip. I do know where the problem lies now and I will definitely address that issue before we cold-weather camp again. Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. 😁
Looks like an exciting start to an epic trip!
It was and next as you know gets even more epic lol
Being ‘part-timers’, we add a state sticker for each state we travel through regardless of whether we overnight there or not.
Henry Dodge was an influential prominent figure in our area of Dodgeville WI back in the 1800’s. I wasn’t aware he also was influential down south. Good video. Thanks for creating and posting it!
Ah thank you!!!
Our rule for putting a state on the map is we have to spend the night in the state in our camper. But it is your trip, so your rules on when you place the sticker on the map, Looks like y'all had a great trip..
Alli thinks overnight but I am torn. I guess you’re right that really no rules! We had an epic trip and next weeks was even more EPIC! Thanks! 😁
Sorry about the frozen pipes. Hope everything turns out ok in that area. Sounds like a cold trip. Can’t wait to see next week. Crazy people out there.
Yeah the pipe issues continue through out the trip. And what happened at the KOA was super scary.
@@AlliChuckAdventures Have you heard what the shooting incident was all about yet?
I lived and worked in Dodge for about 8 years back in the late '80s early '90s and my wife grew up on a farm south of Ingalls. Thanks for the memories. Montezuma, KS has an excellent city owned campground built on donated land. Full hookups and well maintained for $20/night in 2023.
Oh wow! We would love to see the ingalls farm too. Good to know about the campground. I know once we fill time we will go back and explore a lot more!
@@AlliChuckAdventures From Hwy 56 on the west edge of Montezuma, KS take County Road 12 and go 8.1 miles north. Farm is on the east side of the road.
ah yeah! first to view and like your new video! Miss you my friends.
Awesome!!! 😁 miss y’all too!
I see the weather hasn’t really changed here in Florida since your Christmas in Dodge City-lol. You definitely have shown something to think about when buying an RV. Water lines in a slide out in cold weather should be taken into consideration. Oh, we only buy the sticker if we stayed there.
Ahhhh you have the map??? Cool! Yeah Alli thinks staying and I’m kind of torn. But happy wife happy life so prob go with her idea lol
You guys have many of the same observations we have experienced. We have stayed and traveled through Kansas about 4 times in the past few years. Each time it has been extremely windy. On our last trip through the sustained wind was blowing about 40 mph. We passed an 18 wheeler where his wind push coupled with the 40 mph hit us pretty hard. It blew my driver side tow mirror off and sucked our emergency window out. The emergency window is hinged so we didn't lose the window. I looked back to see our curtains flapping out the window. It actually bent the catches holding the window in our camper. So, I duck taped the window shut until I could fix the catches on our next stop. Maybe that is why they have so many wind farms.😁
Our view on tracking maps is also mixed. My view is you should stay in the state before claiming it. My wife thinks passing through is enough. We compromised and keep two maps to track it both ways.
Wow! That’s crazy that it sucked the window open! But I believe it, we were only able to go like 50mph most of the time with all the wind gusts.
As far as the map…Alli says overnight and I’m good either way at this point. It was cool on this whole Christmas trip we hit like 15 states though!
@@AlliChuckAdventures That is probably the biggest advantage of having a tag axle motor home. It tracks much better in the high wind but can be raised and lowered for sharp turns. If you ever drive one, you'll have to have one! Just sayin' 😬👍
We recently purchased a map. We've agreed to only mark the ones we spend tbe night in. Thanks for the video and safe travels.
Yeah we are getting one and I think we have agreed we need to “camp” in that state. Not just overnight even like at a Cracker Barrel. Thanks! Safe travels as well!
It's amazing how many people experience similar events while traveling in their RV's. 🤣👌It's quite a community out there in the RV world. 😊
That is very very true!!!
We put Liquid Springs on our gas class a and while it was expensive we are happy we did. It's not perfect but the ride is overall much smoother and quieter. I also find it's much less tiring to drive. I typically would drive about 6 hours prior to the install and now can drive 8 hours plus and am less tired. I recommend it if you plan to keep the RV for a long stretch and can afford it.
Thanks for you reply and opinions on it! Thats what we are thinking if we plan on keeping which we will providing no major issues pop up with it then we would prob want to invest in them. 😁
@@AlliChuckAdventures Auto air-ride is great too. That's what ours levels off of too when parked. (no jacks). Does give the sensation of riding in a big boat tho. 🤪
I have a map, my rule is I must sleep one night in the camper to put the state sticker on the map. When I find a road thats nasty I often test the left lane which seems to be smoother since less cars typically drive in the left lane.
Yep I guess that’s gonna be our rule as well and yep I’ve don’t that too with left lane before. One time I had a guy flipping me off so bad he almost went off the road and wrecked lol
If I’m in a state in any capacity, I count it.
Ha! Yeah I say same. Alli says have to overnight in that state. 🤣
We don't mind cold, but when that wind kicks up, no thank you. Looks like the start of a great adventure. I assume you've already started looking at ways to keep those pipes warm in your rig. For our travel trailer, I keep a 75w bulb on in the storage compartment where the city water valve is. No kitchen slide for us, so our situation is a little different. If there is some way you can get a light bulb in where the pipes are, could help a lot to prevent freezing.
As far as the map goes, we don't have one, but I would put the sticker on if we stopped to do something, or enjoyed some roadside attraction. Just driving straight through or staying the night at Bass Pro, or other place, would not count for us.
I never thought about the lightbulb, but I did try putting a little space heater out there blowing up on the area that we thought froze and it didn’t do anything for it. Mike was saying we might need to get some heat tape to put around those pipes.
Yeah and I agree and Alli agrees that we need to at least do something in that state like a campground at least.
Hope you guys are doing well hopefully one of these days we can do some camping together !!!
@AlliChuckAdventures I'm sure we would have a great time camping together. One of these days we will make it happen.
@joeofallthings7403 for sure!!!
You could always place a very small electric heater in the wet bay areas that is t-stat controlled.
You have to spend at least one night in the state to put a state stick on the USA map
Alli agrees! Since she’s the boss I’ll go with that too! LOL
I recall when we went to see Elvis many years ago those highways were terrible
Ha I guess nothing has changed then! Crazy how bad some interstates are!
@@AlliChuckAdventures There's not much about Memphis that appeals to us. We blew a tire in August in Holbrook, AZ two years ago (road was horrible) and it was a $1200 roadside assistance job that we were glad to pay to get the heck down the road. Seemed like a sketchy area to top it off. The roadside guy said he wouldn't respond there after dark.
Ok, turn your hot water on as soon as you stop, run it through your faucets before bed, then, let one faucet drip on the hot water side if that faucet, this has worked for us both at home and our camping trips in 10 degree and below, weather, also your Furnace should be heating your under belly, so if set that around 68 to 70 might have helped, but everyone has their own way of doing it. Good luck, seen y'all on Lynn's video 😊
Ok good to know! Believe it or no our underbelly isn’t enclosed. But let hot water drip might just do the trick for sure! Thanks! 😁
@@AlliChuckAdventures not enclosed is sometimes good, but not for freezing weather lol. If you haven't already been to Moab Utah, I think you would like it, summer gets pretty hot there. Check out Dead Horse State park.
@camperbum Utah is BIG time on our bucket list. We stayed at a park in Arizona I think with same name! Near Jerome AZ
@@AlliChuckAdventures we went there July 2020 on on way west to California, so if you need some tips, I can help, I'm retired truck driver, so I've been a few places, Florida is on my wife's bucket list lol. We live in West Plains MO, so if you're up here and need a place or help we anything, let me know, BTW, I started watching you're videos for the trailer hitch along time ago and that's how I started watching Lynn's videos...
@camperbum oh wow that’s awesome. My dad was a truck driver as well! Let us know when you make it to Florida! We have tons of suggestions and could meet up!
We have the map and our rule is we have to sleep in the state to add the sticker to the map! So fun! Enjoy!
This seems to be the common consensus! Alli def agrees! Thanks so much!
Dodge City was a nice place for us to visit. Much better when warmer and businesses are open. You missed out on a lot of
History .Unfortunately thats how it works out on a schedule .
I’m sure in better weather we would have had a much better time! Definitely would want to go back at some point for sure!
Were you able to smell the stock yards?
Our rule on states is spending the night and doing an activity or attraction. You do what you want.
We have decided the same thing!
What were the interstates that were beating the rig ?
I65 near Birmingham was one. But Memphis was bad too! Then on the way home St Louis and Nashville pretty bad too.
KUTGW
Thanks!!! 😁
