Ok, nice design. However, the reason I went to a synthetic plastic over aluminum on my 500 side plate was noise for rocks. Us BC Boyz drive a lot on rocky and gravel logging roads and the noise of the rocks from the front wheel striking the aluminum bash plate of the WR was such a PITA I added a thin layer of insulation sound-deadening foam between the frame and the bash plate to quiet down all the noise from the rocks. This is a common complaint and mod for the WR and 500 with aluminum bash plates. The brand X baseplate I have is made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, is very quiet on the rocky sections, and slips over logs very well. I am not sure aluminum is the best material for this application, but I am also interested in hearing your reasoning.

Thanks for your comment. There are always trade offs. Our customers rarely complain about noise due to aluminum skid plates. Most prefer the superior protective features of a thick, yet light aluminum sheet.
Especially when it comes to sidewall impact.
Plastic skid plates flex way too easily, but yes, they’re quieter and cheaper to manufacture.
Options are good though. There are riders who convert from plastic to aluminum skid plates and vice versa due to various factors.
