Putting a Bigsby Equipped Guitar in the Case

  • I explain why I don’t swivel the arm of the Bigsby back - even when putting it back n the case. May not work for certain Bigsbys. One commenter said it broke the arm - but he was able to replace it with the Duane Eddy arm that's beefier.
    Use this advice at your own discretion. It's how I've done it for decades.

    I have a rescued mourning dove that starts singing every time it hears "Lonesome Train Whistle". It's the damnedest thing. Every single time.

    Thanks for the tip Rev. Ill try it next time. As a bedroom player my Gretsch only goes into a case a few times a year.

      I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's just the repeated in and out of the case that makes that thing lose tension.

    I've found that I can hold the nut under the arm screw with some needle nosed pliers and tighten it up nicely. However, from now on I'm going to pack my 6120RHH just like JIM. Jim, you autographed my owners manual several years ago at a clinic in Dallas. Thank you sir!

    • @fun-guyrecords4297
      @fun-guyrecords4297  Před 8 měsíci

      That way of tightening the screw does work. I quit trying that because I was always ruining the edges of the nut. Don't have to worry about that much anymore, the arm stays the right tension for years because...explained in this video. Thanks for commenting.

    Hot damn! I got this video suggested to me, but I had no idea this was actually your channel, Jim! Looking forward to checking out your other videos. I’ve had the pleasure to talk with you a few times over the years (I live in Allen, right by Parker/Lucas, and have seen you play around Dallas a bunch of times). Jim Heath is the real deal, a very cool and nice dude, folks! Glad you’re here on YT, Jim!

      @@fun-guyrecords4297 Yeah, I remember you telling me (maybe 12-15 years ago?) you were down in my part of town! We’re neighbors! I’m near Angel/Bethany. Glad you’re still over here. You just let me know and we can get some coffee, talk about guitars and stuff! Haha. I gotta snag a couple of those cool RHH Dunlop picks off you sometime for my boys. Anyway, yeah man, I’m super excited that you’re on here now.
      I looked at your country-style picking first lesson, and I realized you didn’t mention something you told me a long time ago: “if you can do it slow, you can do it fast”. I know you spoke about practicing with a metronome, etc, but that expression has always stuck with me. Just that I’d remind you of this Jim Heath pearl of wisdom for future lessons. Take care, Jim! Hey Jim. Good talk. Now I have to go through 7 cases (including my "71 Lyle 335) to properly store my Bigsby rigs. I agree that the guitar should rattle around less with the arm position forward.
    *someday I'll get my flat picking down and learn a little hybrid. Your is amazing. I barely see your pick hand move when you do it.

    • @fun-guyrecords4297
      @fun-guyrecords4297  Před 8 měsíci

      I would'nt do that. What I would do is just start leaving it up when you put it back in the case. They're in there right now fine. It's just the repeated back and forth that makes the arm loose it's tension.

    Just tighten the arm when you change strings. It's easy then, because the nut of the arm pivot is easily accessible.

    @zakkwyldesliver Před 5 měsíci

    I do this with mine too. It’s not like it’s doing anything it’s not designed to do. That spring is pretty beefy and having strings on the guitar keeps tension on it anyway.

  • @wrp3621
    @wrp3621 Před 8 měsíci

    It might be kinda silly, but it wouldn't be that difficult to put a little pocket in the the lid of the case. The hard part would be the covering fabric upholstery.

    I had a 6120 55vs that the bigsby arm broke off from it being in the case like that but the stock arm on that model has a really thin spot. I put a Duane Eddy arm on it and never had a problem again

    i'm so dumb i forgot about it when buying a case and its a tight fit that requires a bit of pressing down. so i dont even bother taking it anywhere and the case was a waste/ error purchase XD
