- The endangered Western gray squirrel is the latest controversy surrounding a planned tiny home village in Spanaway.
The multi-million-dollar development for the homeless has been in the works since at least 2022. It would be built on land near Spanaway Loop Road South and Cross Base Highway South (176th Street South).
The project is expensive.

The irony scale is maxed out on this one.
A chipmunk or similar critter has stalled a cross base connection to I-5 for 30 years, so use those same red-tape laws to quash their unpopular plans. Genius!!
Team squirrel 🐿️🐿️🐿️ The squirrels can't be moved so simply or adapt to a new place. But humans can live anywhere else and should respect the Earth more . Unfortunately people don't comperhend the complexity of disrupting a eco system and the Domino's effect that can detrimental consequences.
That also negatively affects humans.
Often it's the smallest life that keeps nature going. Bees or plankton for example are tiny and seem insignificant without them the whole world would die .
You really would prioritize a space for rodents over making affordable housing for humans? Naw knock it down and if they can adapt cool if not it's no loss whatsoever.
You're comments are right. I'm a liberal through and through and I'm on team squirrel. I won't elaborate, too lengthy and boring 😊
Every injustice, is over something else, being of worth, than one another's well-being....
THAT'S THE REAL CRIME !
This is the same reason the hiway connecting to i5 hasn’t been built! Duh!
Move them to the Soldiers Home in Orting.
Team squirrel 🐿. Putting a village there is a terrible idea. How about somewhere closer to resources? Jobs, food, Healthcare. I used to live off 166th at end of dead end. The mosquitos, coyotes, and mud make for a real pleasant camp out 🙃
good save the animals f people get different land
I am taking bets: Who will liberals decide they love most?
- homeless people
- endangered squirrels
Well we already know they don't love the homeless. I'm betting someone opposing the tiny home village is possibly on the payroll and wants to delay or stop the build so they can pocket the money when all this commotion is forgotten about. Homelessness is a corrupt business.
Don’t know. Who and how much you wanna bet?
Your worried about squirrels but not phentenol O D homeless people? Only in liberal america. Hahahaha
It's almost unbelievable how wicked they are
Just worry there not in are neighborhoods. Only in conservative neighborhoods! Ha Ha
