The fact that they just held each other in silence speaks VOLUMES. Like before they tried to kiss and it showed such a stark contrast between when they were young and it was easy, and the present where so much had happened and it could never be the same.
When I saw them hug I FELT that shit. Where you realize that things can never go back to the way they were, and you come to peace with that instead of forcing thing go backwards.
They may never love each other the same way they did before, but they will always be connected.

I honestly love this so much, I don't really comment much but this. Man I've watched this so many times now lmao. I love both art styles soo much, and the story this animatic plays. How they're just cute dorks in love in the past, and that lil tail thing from when they fell on each other? Adorable, and then the change from that to them fighting was perfect. And the scene with Monkie King and Mac trying to bring things back to how they were, but it just not being the same? Like how it showed in the past they were just so happy and content with one another, and then the present was just unsure and uncomfortable even. And how it seemed like this time it was Mac being the one to start the kiss, and then realizing it just wasn't right and getting frustrated and leaving just breaks me each time. And the second one it looks like Monkie King is prepared for another kiss which he still looks uncertain about, but instead gets hugged. I love that the most, it's just so bittersweet. I love the idea of them being in a cute little wholesome romantic relationship in the past, but in the present there'd just be too much history for it to really happen again and still be that same everloving relationship they once had. There will still be that guilt and that resentment that they both have and it just wouldn't work. Also Mac's top surgery? Didn't expect it, didn't even notice it til I read some comments. But damn I loved that too xD

oh my god this is absolutely GORGEOUS
for one both of the artstyles are so so pretty and I've rewatched this SO SO many times partly just because of how much I like looking at them. I also just really love how everything is portrayed and the execution of all of it is wonderful. I love the purple background to indicate it's in the past and then the yellow one as well later. How the color is darker the longer ago it was. I like how the artstyle (artist) change also changed the pov and just GOD... they are so tragic to me. I'm writing this after rewatching it like 50 times and I will certainly not stop rewatching after this comment.
This has already been said but I really like how at the end they just held each other instead of kiss. The EXPRESSIONS god the expressions are incredible lovely amazing raaaa. There is so much emotion in this and I am going insane over it. I am literally in love with this.
