Never really noticed how for both Pearl and Macaque, their development geared them towards becoming more independent, after dedicating their lives to someone who left them (from their perspective, at least). Like, you CANNOT say that one look Mac gives him across the table isn't like how Pearl looked in the whole Rose's Scabbard episode!!!

i only recently got into this fandom due to an animatic i saw of macaque - and the videos of Shadowpeaches make me want to cry so much, their story is one of my favourites to date rn, i hope i learn more of them considering i only just started S3. I know, I know, Macaque is “evil”, I get it. But he has trauma! The poor boy has trauma and lost everything in the past! I wanna hug him so bad, not in a simping way, just showing him that someone out there cares for him And as always, amazing work! We love the animatics and artwork! Don’t stress yourself out too much, but don’t give up because thinks feel wrong. Work through it, take your time, and keep yourself safe!
omg omg this this I will defend this character with my life, the hill i want to die on is that Macaque was never a villain but an anti-hero the major thing is that because we see him through the eyes of MK there is such a layer of bias and nuance to unpack with Macaques character, but for a character as strong as he is, he is suprisingly careful with how he uses his own power- like in the episode where he's introduced i think its important to point out that he choses to lure mk and swk out to a mountain range to fight, one seperated from the city and this is something that says a lot about macaque as a character because it shows he takes measures to lower collateral damage if he can help it, this fight is one of the only times we see him really cut loose and its only when he's in an isolated enviornment with minimal people, when hes in populated spaces he'll minimize damage by isolating his fight within a room etc, he thinks about the livlihood of others- we see this with the way he protects the girl lbd posseses when she releases her, we see this with the way he watches over MK once hes free of LBD saving him from her wrath with a portal, Mk certainly saw it- but also I think that Macaque's view on SWK is so negatively affected by how he remembers him from his own youth- arrogant, ruthless with his enemies, pretty violent all things considered if hes anything like the source material, and on top of that Mac dropping the line "show me the real SWK the old you would have leveled this whole mountain range just to stop me," indicates this nature- this was before Swk met the monk and changed directions in life, this was Macaques SWK, this was the man he thought was mentoring MK, not to mention SWK for as well intentioned as he is in the later seasons, is also so nuanced in his morality that he was ready to sacrifice the life of a child if it meant taking down the lady bone demon, which contrasts so well with how Macaque fully used his body to shield her when she fell. I think this is a nod to swk past where he was just a more brutal person. TLDR: Macaque is not evil, but he is an excellent foil to SWK challenging the line between what makes a hero and what makes a villain
I knew the moment i clicked this that by just telling from its thumbnail, name and characters there would be lots of angst. And altho i feel so sad for Wukong and Mac but atleast it ended on a good note and i have no regrets.
