I'm pretty sure they removed it because there was a lot of bugs, and they didn't have the time to fix it. Although you can literally edit one line of information about your world and you can "activate" it so they didn't "remove" it just made it harder to access. I think another reason is then they could have the "this world has experimental settings that may not work" without people being like "then why is it in the game?????" so yeah. Anyone who can actually know how to access it wouldn't be asking that question I'm guessing.

1.18 broke Single Biome worlds too. Now if you use a Nether biome it doesn't work, you just get normal overworld grass with nether lighting and colors.
