    A couple of things! ONE. Do the paddle mod to have one side up, the other down. I used to catch the paddle and nudge it forward at times on roundabouts changing gear at awkward times, a total pain in the arse! Fortunately a real easy job to do and needs no parts at all, and makes it much more intuitive.
    TWO. Don't be afraid to let it rev out when you want to go quick! It will pull all the way to redline like a petrol car and haul ass doing it 😉 (also its good for the DPF/ regen to do this occasionally if you do drive it mostly down low in the rev range)
    THREE. They do have some issues. Boost pipes at the Intercooler can leak, causing oil misting over the undertray. Vacuum lines near the turbo can fail due to heat and old age. Like all cars bushes can wear, but there are lots of them so that can add up fast. Front springs can fail where they pigtail into the lower spring mount, leaving the front wing on the tire and you stranded. I also find the front discs seem to wear quicker on the inside than the outside with the standard calipers, even when properly serviced with new pins ect.
    BUT a remap to around 350-360 horse and 700nm (£350 ish on average) will net a car that will touch 180 on the Autobahn (Ac Schnitzer tuned one to 350 brake and it hit 179.3 mph on the Nardo ring officially) and do the 60 dash in about 5 sec. And return an average in the high 30s early 40s mpg.
    What more could you ever want?
    Oh.........an LSD thats what 😂

    • @SyGardner
      @SyGardner Před 4 lety

      blardmann I think it’s pushing 280+ now after the remap but it performs like a car with more definitely. I’ve been against a few things now around 400bhp etc and there’s not much difference at lower speeds under 120mph. I’ve also done quite a few 0-60mph tests and the best I’ve got is 5.2 seconds which is awesome from simply just having a remap done and literally nothing else. The sound is lovely too just from the standard exhaust. I think I am going to try and push this car as far as it can go in the future and see how fast it can become with a bit more work. Mine is manual too so it’s even more fun when you set off just right and launch off the clutch, I’ve messed it up a couple of times from adrenaline haha, but when I catch it just right the first to second gear pull is pretty awesome. It’s also awesome in 3rd and 4th, hovering and 50mph in 3rd gives an awesome instant pull and then 4th gear hovering at 80mph gives an instant dramatic pull. 5th and 6th still have a little bit to offer but it dies off after the 120-130 mph mark, but up until that speed it can really compete with many cars. Second gear is my favourite though, hovering at 30mph and feeling the pull there and it happens more often as that’s the speed on the normal roads. I was actually genuinely shocked after the remap what it actually did to it. I’ve had to to change my back tires a few times though being rear wheel drive, but then that’s to be expected :D

    I like the e92 3 series. My dad used to have a 2010 330d with the newer N57 engine (245 bhp) and a manual gearbox and it used to take off like a rocket when he put his foot down. The economy was decent as well as it would easily get 42-45 mpg on the motorways. I would have an e92 330d as a daily driver over a 335d cos the manual gearbox is more fun to use and I would get it resprayed in imola red as it is a legendary colour.

    These are a great vehicle, I bought a 59 plate M sport highline 2 years ago. 1 owner 78k miles (and 74 years old - yeah really!! He bought it new for just under £40k when he was 65) for £8k cash insurance valued it at £10.5k. 2 years later they are still doing same or more money! I had a 4 hour train journey hungover to get it and a hell of a 4.1/2 hour drive back! Initially was getting about 23.9-24mpg nearly all urban and foot down regularly. Bought a chip box off amazon for £75 now more like 27mpg, but will do 40 mpg or even 50 on a run if you drive like a saint. For the performance you get it is very good.

  • @ItsDanLatham

    Thing is these seem great value but much like e46's have all done spaceship level mileage and usually owned by people who just want the badge and dont care about maintaining a car. Really good examples tend to be big £££. Definitely great performance for the running cost regardless.

  • @SyGardner
    @SyGardner Před 4 lety +4

    I’ve got the manual 3 litre 325d and mapped it, it really is a beast. I got the se version so it’s definitely a sleeper, the only thing I changed was getting it de-chromed so it was all black instead. It’s awesome absolutely annihilating many cars and waiting for the driver to pull down his window at the next set of lights to say “bloody hell thats quick what have you done to it” haha. I tested it against my mates m6 and in sports mode his is obviously faster, but when he hasn’t got sports mode on the performance was identical, so basically spending 200 quid on a remap turned my 198 bhp car into a completely different machine altogether. I’m not sure what bhp it’s pushing now, but it’s enough to perform equally to cars with a much higher bhp, which sounds ridiculous but it’s true.
