  • This video shows how my lawn is doing during the Summer after overseeding in the Spring with Turf Type Tall Fescue. My lawn was mostly Kentucky Blue Grass and wasn't doing well during the heat. I am happy with the results so far.

    I am going to reseed this fall with Titan Rx turf fescue with RTF type tall fescue mix together, I hope it comes out great like your lawn.

      Thanks and good luck! I am currently reseeding my back yard with Barenbrug RTF and will have a video out this Fall on how it performed.

      Thanks John. My soil here is mainly sand so I have been topdressing each year with compost to build up the organic matter for the last 3 years. If you want to see how I do it watch this reseeding video I did in my back yard and at the 8:45 mark I show it: czcams.com/video/nxYDNw19KJg/video.html

    I wonder If this would grow good here in Alabama. very humid and stays in the 80's and 90's in summer.

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem

      Joe - this turf type tall fescue is mainly for cool season climates. Also if it's humid it will probably get disease. I don't know anything about Alabama's weather but I know the best grass for most warm season areas is bermudagrass. Good luck.

      Thanks! Fortunately we don't have water restrictions so I can keep it green. However I try to water as conservatively as I can and keep it that way.

    Your lawn looks great, I am in the So Cal. IE so our summers are 95 to 105 normally but early heat 113. I think that Tall Fescue needs shade in these environments, my grass used to be great with my sycamore, the tree is gone and my lawn suffers, at 2:26 you can see the shade really helps your lawn. I am switching to Hunter PGB, usually they are not used in Ca. the lawns are not big enough, but I will give it a try. When you have 6 different types of sprinkler brands they all give off a little different flow causing issues with your lawn, so I will now only use one manufactures. If you remove 15 feet of area from the sidewalk to the house, that is the size of my front lawn.

    • @yardbuddha

      Thanks Jim. My lawn gets shade up until 9 AM and then its full sun for the rest of the day. I'm really happy with how it looks this Summer even though I know it's still 60-70% KBG. I'm going to overseed with TTTF for the next couple years to try and get it to be the majority of my lawn. I fixed my sprinkler issue by putting in a nozzle in it that has more flow and now it gets enough water.

  • @88Keys444
    @88Keys444 Před rokem

    I have an all KBG lawn as well. I overseeded GCI Spreader Elite about 4 days ago. Got some germination, but still waiting on the big breakout. I think the spreading capability of KBG is highly overrated, considering that it's always dormant in the summer. Perhaps the spreader elite can slowly choke out the KBG. I'll continue to overseed until there's almost no KBG left. I can't get myself to water the KBG so much for it to stay green. It's a waste of water imo. I'm going to keep it at 4 inches all year round and see how it goes. Glad to see you've gotten a HUGE improvement

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem

      Thanks for the comment. The spreader elite wasn't around when I bought my seed 2 years ago from GCI so I'm interested on how it performs. It looks like the blend is Flame, Saltillo and Coronado TTTF. I have the Saltillo and Coronado strains in mine so I the Flame is the spreading one. Hope it works out for you!

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem +1

      Yes my yard looked bad a couple years ago with my KBG lawn. Your options are to let it go dormant, water a lot more or change the strain of your grass to something more heat resistant. I've only overseeded twice and it looks a lot better.

  • @JEK

    any chance you can tap in somewhere for an additional sprinkler to cover the driveway area opposite of the solo sprinkler? Also, you can try not edging along the concrete driveway to give your roots more shelter from being cooked.

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem

      Thanks. I'm going to put a higher flow nozzle in that one sprinkler to get more gallons per minute. That should solve the problem without digging another trench. Yes I could not edge by the driveway but I think it's too late for that now and I just need to get through another hot 2 months of Summer.

    Your lawn is looking really good. Do you have any problems with lawn fungus ? Thanks

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem

      I haven’t had to use any fungicide yet. If you water in the early morning the lawn dries out during the day and minimizes fungus growth. I’ve only over seeded this lawn twice so it’s still mainly KBG. I plan to keep adding TTTF for a few more years.

    • @Johnny53kgb-nsa

      @@yardbuddha ok, cool. I always water in the morning, never late. I guess my lawn is just susceptible to fungi. I use quality seed. Thanks John

    What products have you used this summer up until now?? I have used humichar. Double dark fertilizer. Hydrotain. JG summer survival fertilizer. Watering one inch per week at a minimum. Overall my lawn is looking good . Aeration and overseeding and top dresser mid September!

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem +1

      I really like to keep it simple so I haven't used much. I top-dressed when I overseeded and I used organic fertilizer from The Old Farmers Almanac that I buy from Amazon (10-0-2). My soil test said my sulfur was a bit low so I'm going to add some this Fall and do a iron/zinc spray to make up for the low sulfur to green it up. I did put down a soil loosener this Summer called EZ-Wet.

    ever try to overseed with rye instead of TTTF?

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem +1

      No I haven't. I chose TTTF because of it's deep roots and drought resistance.

  • @matthewnovik4050
    @matthewnovik4050 Před rokem

    why do you prefer to overseed in the spring as opposed to the fall?

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem +1

      I like the Spring better because of the snow die off I usually get each Winter. I think it's easier to dethatch in Spring to get down to the soil layer for optimum germination. In Fall it seems my grass is still thick and green so it's hard to dethatch thoroughly. If you didn't see my overseeding video from this Spring here it is: czcams.com/video/yfFQp16LRkY/video.html

    About what’s your water bill every month out there on the east side of the state?

    • @yardbuddha
      @yardbuddha  Před rokem

      I usually pay the minimum which is $35/month. The most I have paid during the summer is $60. I have a small yard and Spokane has lots of water because it sits on an aquifer.
