Dracula + English Subtitles - "Zu Ende"

- I have subtitled a portion of Dracula, from the Graz, Austria production. The song is "Zu Ende" (There is no English track title. "Zu Ende" itself is hard to translate properly. I went with "To the End" because "It's Over" seemed a bit disingenuous considering that... well, it isn't over!). Not the most apt translation there could be... but it gives a clear understanding of what is going on. Enjoy.
Dracula - Thomas Borchert
Mina - Lyn Liechty
Van Helsing - Uwe Kröger - Hudba
I need to know if anyone came from Alex. Cause now I can’t stop playing this it’s been about half an hour and I’ve played every version I could find
He did this to us
......... Same here lol
ITS NOT JUST ME!
It was soooo good tho!
oh yeah, Alex said jump, I said how high? and now I have a ✨hyperfixation✨
I love how Van Hellsing is sweating and moving around. You see how exhausted he is. And Dracula barely moves. He is always calm and collected. The only Time he seems inconvenienced is when Van Hellsing shows the Cross
Everytime a cross is dropped/yeeted: A saga
1:07
1:36
1:46
2:20
You are a saint and a meme lord/lady/noble.
The one at 1:36 LITERALLY flies back against the curtain. That’s so fucking funny.
I dont know from wich material that cross is made but its very strong
it's 4am and I've just chuckled whilst saying thank you to a computer screen I must look like a right psychopath
I can't help but imagine poor the Jesus on the cross just screaming every time he is yote into oblivion 😂
That chorus slaps so hard it’ chef’s kiss for me!!
Love the absolute chaos of Jonathan getting clocked in the face and then Quincey with a shotgun. It pulls the whole scene together perfectly
I love how they have to force Mina to hold the cross so they can get away, cuz she's BEGGING them not to make her do it, she does NOT want to hurt Dracula
You also see sheer hatred Van Helsing holds for Dracula and why he's so driven. It's shame the english version doesn't have such a duet in it, Van Helsing basically forgotten, which is a tragic mistake. I say he could go for guy who did the Police Man in the Scarlet Pimpernel and keep the Dracula, then it work would amazingly, for a duet between them
It's Over is now in the licensed version of the show!
@@danmccloskey6207 is there a release of the newest version?
@@danmccloskey6207 link to it?
It's weird that Uwe Kröger and Thomas Borchert hasn't performed that much together. They have played so many same roles, and they are both awesome actors and singers and I love them both. They should really be on stage together more!
I was gonna say this sounds like the songs from the Death Note musical but then I remembered it was literally written by the same guy
Well Dracula did kill his wife, so I imagine it is hate, but he tries to be the Paladin of good and give Dracula the option. It really seems eerie in this song they're both saying 'It's over' it's like they both realize without Van Helsing drive to kill him or Dracula drive to destroy Van Helsing, they'll be nothing.
Me and my best friend have done this musical several times
I've played Dr. Van Helsing and he's played Dracula
We are organizing our lead cast members (including us) and we are going to make a cast recording
We love performing this song and we are definitely going to be making an English version of this song
Awesome
It was written specially for both these actors, shame as it's so powerful and it really shows just how much Van Helsing hates Dracula, which is lost in English version imo.
You know if change the lyrics a little bit, this song could make a great Kingdom Hearts AMV.
And it's this performance that made me damn certain Uwe Kroger is one of my favourite foreign language performers
Love his Van Helsing so much
1:50 HOLY WATER. HOLY WATER, WE NEED HOLY WATER.
I'm obsessed with this song, I love how their voices sound together and Dracula's alone it's amazing too (not to mention it's really catchy even tho I don't speak the language)
i love this. The Incredible Uwe Kroger and Thomas Borchert singing together. Der Tod(Death) and Count Krolock. Incredible!
Explosion in his face all his group fly back but van helsing goes straight forward
Badass
I get why ABD loves this song
Actually, It's Over is the best translation. :) Of course it's not really over right now, but they both think they are going to win, they are both sure of it, so they are saying It's over, to each other, because it's going to be over very soon, and that the other one is practically already dead. :) Also, it fits a lot better into the music. :D
We seriously need a better English language recording of "It's Over." The only one here on CZcams in English is that terrible Midwest cast recording.
+Amanda Pike ink potts may be doing one to go along with an animatic they will be doing, but it may be a few years, they have a lot on their plate.
I would argue that Until The End is the best translation since this isn’t actually the end and it’s not actually over yet... and that’s also the literal German translation as far as my knowledge goes XD but that doesn’t really with with the beats so a syllable would need to be dropped somewhere... ‘Til The End? I guess? Who knows-
@@aw8885 It's not. It's over is the quite literally a perfectly accurate word by word translation. (Take it from a German)
If I were to say "Until The End" it adds meaning that just isn't there in the German version. I'd say that would translate to "bis zum Ende" and it would obviously not fit in the context of the play, the song and not even fit with the next line in the song.
I mean since the original goes "Zu Ende, Zu Ende, dein Spiel ist aus" the most literal translation would be "It's over, it's over, your game is done/over" as the "zu Ende" part clearly refers to Dracula's/ Van Helsing's "game"
Even "to the end" in this video's (quite honestly mostly accurate translation) is stretching it. Now you *could* read the German version like that, but I'd wager that if that was really the definite intention they would have added an article before "Ende" or at least the abbreviated form "zum" (zu dem)
The complaint that "it isn't over yet" is absolutely ridiculous because it's not "zu Ende" either. Both Dracula and Van Helsing are clearly convinced it's the end too so I have no idea how people even come up with that complaint.
Absolutely, I love his rendition of Falcon in a Dive, it's very provocative and I could certainly see him Javert in the broadway singing Stars, but nonetheless I think English version kinda forgot how important Van Helsing was, so made Dracula a bigger part of it.
I'm so glad that Alex made a video highlighting this and it's getting the attention it deserves.
My favorite part is when they're flinging holy water on the Hunter
Sometimes it's like "Everybody wants to rule the world".
Einfach nur genial
OMG! I love this song so much. It's magical. :)
And thank you very much for this wonderfull translation.
I always wanted to know, what they're singing about. Thanks for this :).
This. This is art!
thank you so much for the sub tileds i understand german but some word are stil unclera to me so thank you ^ ^
Zu ende means It's over. And it makes sense as both think they already won. Dracula with turning Mina and Van Hellsing with his knowledge and Christian faith.
when you are done with your other projects, could you also subtitle the finale, nebel und nacht (the reprise as well), and Die Verführung? thanks for what you have done so far.
Man, now I just wish Thomas Borchert was Dracula in the english album... Ah, well. A person can dream.
Interessant... :D
And 'Deep in the Darkest Night' isn't really a duet it's Jonathan, Quincy and Tom singing it, it's also supposed to have a reprise the German show never had it unfortunately. So far my fave show by Wildhorn is Jekyll & Hyde, Civil War and Count of Monte Cristo, pre-ordered my copy of the new show, Bonnie and Clyde, sounds really awesome and canne wait.
Only one correction I'd make is the subtitles for chorus, Zu Ende, means It's Over and to me that sounds more powerful than To the End.
Ja thomas ich find ihn super! und das lied auch
This goes fucking hard!!!!!!!
dearest ( expensively :) gott,? god,? guard,? dieu,? why doth wee luv these summo samurai stories? :)
Me losing my mind because of 0:20 and I don't even know why I find it so funny
Regarding the description... not using "it's over" because it isn't over seems like a weird thing to say considering it isn't "Zu Ende" either.
First I find the japenese version-now the austria version!
Is there an English version of this??
Not that I can find sadly
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😲
I think Renfield was great in the English version, so was Dracula, Lucy and Mina, otherwise rather lackadaisical.
