Stunning Minster! Other lovely architecture as well along with the quaint streets. It was a great idea to stop the driving on them in 74. Loved "Downtown!" 🕺💃🎶🎵🎵 Looked like Diagon Alley to me. Easier than saying "Neither on thing or another street" too! Lovely asmr walking tour though the medieval section of York. I found it interesting to see a Constantine Bronze there near to the Prime Minster House. 🤣🤣 Damn Yanks! Can't take us anywhere. But we loved coming along anyway!

Cheers Ervin it was one of the first times we used the GoPro 12 and hadn’t yet learnt about the wind reduction setting and how you need to take it off auto so there is a lot of unnecessary wind noice unfortunately sometimes drowning out the natural noises! To be honest I normally never watch any walking tour videos, as I find them very boring but the views some of them videos get are amazing, so obviously a hell of a lot of people do like seeing them. On the boring topic, I did a York video last year but with me interacting all the time, which did terrible for views, so that tells it's own story lol! Must admit I absolutely love York and no matter how many times we go in a year I always cannot wait to go back again, it has a magic that is hard to explain but I get get sick of visiting and better still, stopping over there. 'Down Town' was better sang by Petula Clark but fair play, he can sing and I cannot. I remember having an amazing afternoon tea in Browns with Mrs Metalman about 10 years ago, one of the best we have ever had but an unfortunate reminded, as she now was to have a gluten free diet for the rest of her life - so no more afternoon teas for us. Never seen York looking so quiet, even in the winter time when we have been there always a buzz, so I hope it is not a further indicator of your previous video down there. I always wondered about the massive long Q was in the Shambles, which is there every time we go, never knew about the Ghost Merchants shop and I am sure the guy singing sea shanties with his dancing puppet was at the Steam Punk Festival in Whitby last month. Mrs Metalman always enjoys a good rummage about in all the charity shops in Goodramgate, while I stand outside looking shifty.....Nice to see York again, cheers Alan
thank you so much Alan 🙏 yes they are an acquired taste these walking tours. I find them quite relaxing. we filmed this on our way out to the Travelodge at Grimwith. whilst it took less than an hour and a half to film I really enjoyed researching all the history about the place names and buildings. Even though I worked in York for eight years after doing all the post filming edit research on this I finally feel I know the place. you DID catch that talented guy with the puppet on your steampunk video. he deserves a video himself! that guy singing outside Bettys is a professional Opera singer but that has to be the very worst rendition of down town I’ve ever heard. I’m glad I caught it on record, he must be fuming! Bettys is wonderful, they do the very best macaroons on the planet, make great presents. loved your ghost tour of York and your grisly telling of stories that surround historic buildings ive never seen done better anywhere, it’s a great addition to your wonderful repertoire! have an amazing weekend! its satirical commentary and investigative journalism filling out the next few weeks.. its been months in the planning. could be a right cop out, we shall see! 🤞🤞

The architecture in the area is certainly spectacular! The narrow streets are always such an historic British detail...love it! There are some streets in Halifax where the pavement is being removed and taken down to the original brick works...hope to be able to get down there one day...parking is always horrendous though. Wonderful tour and I certainly hope you have an equally wonderful weekend!!

We're settling down for our Saturday night viewing. What a way to start with our favourite couple!! Gutted we never made it to York this year, it's a wonderful city. The monster is something else! Oh yes, I'd forgotten about the fire! Love the history of Stonegate street! We didn't know that about Guy Fawkes either!! (Definitely watching this with a pen and paper again before we visit York!). I was gonna say that busker was great, then he got to Down Town!!! 😂. Wrong key my love! Wills is getting a bit excited by the Christmas lights! Ok, now you've mentioned a Christmas market!! Whip ma whop ma is a new word, love it!! Added it to vocab and we def need to visit the Golden Fleece. The Shambles is such a pretty area. Don't know I spent 3 weeks in York in 97 performing at the Grand - I don't remember any of York apart from The Shambles! Great video - we did miss you guys though! Cheers 🍻

Your time-consuming research truly proves it. First I was puzzled with this street performer 14: 48 ...he is not real, but just in a movie...then realise that I am watching an enchanting city wow.....Harry Potter...hahahah..Universal Studio here in the US won't be able to mimic it...

Oh wow, I didn't realise Guy Fawkes was born in York - and lived on the very street you were walking along. Betty's Tea Rooms looked nice and inviting. Great to see York with all its tiny streets. The shops have kept their traditional Dickensian type appearance even though there are some big brands … the architecture is amazing. There is no way I’d queue for 3 1/2 hours to get into a shop .. nope not even a bakery … though did for a short while to experience the famous Betty’s 😂The buskers add ti the atmosphere… well some of them 😂🤣 maybe he’s saving up for singing lessons haha Thanks for all the little snipets of history … didn’t know that about Guy Fawkes or when I think about it didn’t know about any of the other stuff either 😀 A friend showed me some pics they’d taken in some of the , would you believe deserted streets at night, definitely looked on the spooky side & not somewhere I’d be venturing. The Minster looked fab … a great town tour and somewhere I’d return to anytime ❤

It’s been a busy time of late .. in Lincs for nearly a week for my dads 94th birthday then back for a few days before grabbing a weeks holiday in Shropshire which we loved. Yes that day in the lakes with my club was a real cracker 12 miles in the pretty highish mountains… long time since the weathers been kind enough for that 😎 Love to both 🥰xx

What a beautiful place! I would love to visit York someday. Amazing its once of the oldest cities in the united kingdom. I love the architecture here, so much detail and so impressive. St Sampson church being from 1154 blows me away, and it still looks so good. I love the "park your broom" at the Shambles, it feels like Diagon alley in Harry Potter, ouuu the potions cauldron too! So cool about the Patrick pool and the roman baths. Your footage from the go pro 12 is amazing!! I need to upgrade. Awesome tour as always! :)

Hello Nick and Jill, we love York, the Minster looks so magnificent. Be great to do a ghost tour only ever been on one in Derby many years ago. Love the quaint shops and to imagine that the stone to build the Minster was hauled up the street. Oh didnt realise guy fawkes was born in this street. The shambles market looks great. OOOh the haunted Inn. Nice to hear the busker. Really enjoyed your walking tour, very informative. I've not been to York for many a year and it looks lovely. It didn't seem very busy either so I'm guessing it's mid week. I didn't know Guy Fawkes was born in York. You learn something new everyday. Quite a few street buskers/performing artists of differing genres. I thought I heard some opera in the background at one point. Super relaxing tour of York and even the gulls aka shi!te hawks added to the ambience from time to time 👍
Good spot Paul, yes the guy killing “down town” is a professional opera singer. The crowds had managed to get him to try and sing a commercial song and he absolutely killed it. I bet he is glad I was there to record it for posterity 😂 york is usually rammed. This was a Friday in February but we got extremely lucky. Id put it in the top ten least friendly hermit places in the UK 24/7/365!
Wow, York looks a lot quieter here than it has done on any occasion I've been there 😂 seemed very dramatic when Nessun dorma was being belted out 😂 i was thinking St Sampson sounds an unusual name for a church. Well, it's been a while since I've been to the great city if York. This was spot on as I honestly know nothing about the place (other than Vikings and Minsters and Greggs). You've been brilliant guides and made me want to head back there soon for a ramble in The Shambles! 😂😃👍

We worked in York for a few years but are still learning new things! we learnt a lot from just doing the research for this video! we thought the huge queue outside that shop was for ghost tours not personalised hand crafted ghosts 🤣 Hope you guys have a lovely weekend and the weather allows you to get out and about 👍❤️
I'm involved with a charity that does those tours around York during LGBT History Month (February) so I was there for that as I was doing a talk in the library in the morning then the walk. We didn't record it but I was thinking we should as it is always really popular when we run it (and free!). I will speak to my friend about that and definitely share if we do record it. What a miserable weekend it is, we are about to go out for a walk now and we are planning a bit more of a hike tomorrow but the weather is definitely not very inviting. I hope you both manage to get out and about too. Definitely one of those days where hibernating is quite appealing...😂

York looks such a lovely place and I must put it on my to do list. Once aging you’ve filmed this so well and the 25 mins flew by. However, I much prefer the usual GENeration Xplorers films with the two fabulous presenters rocking & rolling so to speak. Cheers Mike. 👍
thank you Mike, York is home to three Costa Coffee shops too so it is CCC friendly! with the exception of the steampunks the other week we’ve “cleverly” been off camera now for over two months whilst we recharge our batteries! it was by design as usually after Christmas we are completely wiped out! we are fully charged and very well researched for the next part of our journey. Nothing filmed as yet but we are planning a big return! Raising a cup of coffee and a slice of tiffin in your honour 👍
Nice one...i always look forward to a visit here...it's the sort of place where you can wander around holding your camera proudly and no one taking any notice...i went to Scunthorpe today, filming around the streets, everyone was watching me like i was doing something i shouldnt...i bet that buskers bucket was not very full...what a confounded racket...so much to see around the city....enjoyed watching.
now then Scunthorpe filming sounds very interesting. I was filming in your favourite city Hull today, id been on the fence about it before, im now a huge fan ♥️

@atrampinthehills.841 was very impressed with the place. Not what I was expecting at all. It will be part of the boarded up series but the art gallery and museums being free, the architecture, cost just £2 to park all day in the city centre and one of the shopping centres only had three closed units, it was buzzing. Plus there is a cinema there where every seat is £4.99 for every film, every show! Cant wait to go back!

"The Shop That Must Not Be Named" hmm interesting name. The Haunted inn would have a few good stories to tell. Everything looks so well preserved. Thankyou Dara 🙏 I find something relaxing about walking tours, if it’s a place I’ve been and I’m fond of I usually put them on with the intention of having it on in the background and then get caught up waiting to see if shops or places I like get visited! Thankyou re. the history, it’s actually something I’m doing to help myself as much as anyone else. I’m finding it really interesting learning facts about places I never knew before. I’ve tackled the last three walking videos like this and whilst they take a lot longer to put together ive now a much better understanding and love of these places. The Minster is stunning and you can pay extra to visit the roof, it isn’t cheap but what an amazing view over York from up there. Ive always wanted to visit during Carol Service in early December, it gets sold out very quickly though! That ghost shop is a real success story, apparently each ghost is hand crafted and unique to each visitor and brings good luck? This was the quietest I’ve ever seen York usually on any given time of day or day of the year you will be crammed in those city walls like sardines!
