7:30 Bird mitigation. This is common practice at functioning airports. Predators will make the local bird population avoid your construction zone and landing/launching sites. Good for the birds and good for the function of your airspace. One falcon won't put a dent in the population but it will keep them away by a zone around the space.
Birds are not a problem. These rockets don't have fans that birds can harm.
As long as vents are covered birds are just fine.
@@knowledgeisgood9645 Bird mitigation is also used for keeping nesting birds off tall structures. SpaceX do have a lot of tall structures, that they probably don't want birds nests and bird droppings on.

ahh boyds.... they could just put a plastic representation of a wood owl up that slightly moves in the wind, would scare the bejusus out of all the other boyds but... live falcons are much funner :)
7:22 this amazing bird is used to help stop other birds nesting. A lot of airports use them.

Starbase looks a lot different than it did a few years ago. New Megabays, Starfactory, parking garage, new office building, and the second launch pad all being built so quickly
They 'could' be preparing to move StarHopper but you know it can move itself, we've seen it.

Starship catching.
My suggestion is, would it be a good idea to pick up the starship loaded with the landing fuels lifted to the tower's maximum height? Then start the landing engines while held by the arms, then when the hover has stabilised, release the arms, hover around a little and recatch with the arms and recovery?
I thought a tethered hover would be a good idea.

Is the falcon for keeping the high bays clear of birds? Plastic owls probably not doing their job right.
That’s what I was thinking as well. As often as the doors are open, it’s not just the outside areas you want bird control of: you especially want to the inside of those big bays controlled.
Elon heard that the plastic owls were planning on unionizing...

Trained birds have been used in the past to deter other birds from area's like airports and sports stadiums. Just having them fly in the area regularly seems to work.

Flying Falcons in an area like that helps stop birds nesting nearby, this can be a concern if they are a protected species as you then have to stop work until the chicks have fledged. Far easier to persuade them not to nest nearby in the first place as well as there being less debris / mess to clear up.

I think it would be great to hop a booster from the launchpad into the catching arms. If the booster can hop, not even clearing the tower, and maneuver itself to the catching arms and have the catching arms grab it and put it back on the olm I imagine that such a test would give a lot of valuable data on catching the booster. Whereas if it would go wrong there is valuable lessons to be learned there too. If they can successfully hop the booster multiple times catching it after a full flight would mostly be an exercise of avionics or balistics which is by no means easy but it would make the odds of success a whole lot better if you already knew the hover and the arms would work.
Flight 5, and I feel like I've either missed an inside joke, or been asleep for a few months.

Nine total sections, but 8 and 9 together are the same height as sections 1-7. So you can think of 8 and 9 as 8a and 8b which they were called at one point

are you suggesting we ditch the actual production numbers of ships and boosters and just adress them by flightnumbers?
They use hawks inside big factories to get rid of birds that poop on everything
So only hawks are allowed to poop inside those buildings. Besides humans. Now if we can only train them on how to use the restrooms.
