The funniest part about the whole game is that there are people complaining about the pirate aspect and dont like that they can have their treasure stolen from them. In a pirate game.....with pirates
The name is "sea of thieves". That's like complaining that people can kill you in Mortal Kombat. Or complaining about people stealing your cars in Grand Theft Auto.
It's call "Sea of Thieves"... not "Sea of Friends and Fairness."
It's like complaing that there's too much violence in battlefield

Games that “got better” over many years should stop getting praise. Everyone is trying to do comeback stories as if they deserve praise. Release a game in a garbage state then fix it later. You’re literally making your costumers pay you full price to play test a beta. Then maybe 5 years later it’ll be in the state it should’ve launched in. It’s a garbage practice that needs to stop.

I tried the free trial of the service that had this game and then canceled. But yeah. There is absolutely no point in downloading this for single-player or small-scale multyplayer over an emulator or something. Maybe offline servers? But definitely not singleplayer. CAn you imagine this game in singleplayer? Absolutely nothing to it. It would take longer to download than to get bored of it.

I'm laughing my ass off right now at everyone saying even a few weeks ago that Sea of Thieves would be worth anybody's money, and that it had to be better than Skull & Bones.
That game, is an utter failure with next to no content at all.
Graphics wise, Ubisoft will kill it as well since they aim at a realistic setting and with their recent titles, they actually improved greatly in terms of downgrading their games.
Waves.. every studio can make them with proper technology.
Skull & Bones will have them as well, even Black Flag had very decent wave physics.
All in all, SoT will be dead possibly within a month unless Rare does magic.
Consumers: there is no content.
Company:well then it is working as intended.

Sea of thieves has turned into an amazing game with tons of new content. Some of the best devs in the business. After the lunch they had weekly events, added new islands, new bosses, ghost ships, big ass sharks (as big as the ships), lots of story missions, added to the world, and the devs talked to the community weekly right here on CZcams. Rare made a awesome world and added stuff all the time.

@@bopt8879. Thank you. Pointless progression and no interesting story quests. The quests seem as fun as the quests in Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning. That game was like an MMO without the online aspect, ouch. The quests were nothing but fetch quests over and over, but at least the combat was kind of fun cause it was like God Of War 2's combat. The combat in this game looks basic as fuck for a 2018 game.

2022 is here, and the game is significantly improved from it’s bare bones release, but I think Joe’s statement at 6:15 fits very well anyways. While it’s great that Sea of Thieves has so much more content now than it did, it should have had more stuff at launch, because no game should release without a proper gameplay loop and a lack of systems that allow a game like this to remain fun.
I’ve bought the game and so far had a blast, but there is no need for Joe to come back, I think. He plays and reviews games when they come out, and if there’s no content at launch, it’s a bad review.
Yeah, the same can be said about no man’s sky. It’s honestly really fun, and a great game now. And I would love to see what joe has to say now, but it doesn’t warrant another video. It should have been great on launch.

I understand a game needing more time in the oven, but when a company knowingly releases a buggy, boring, and unfinished product for $60, it’s malicious, and no amount of “apologies” is going to make that better.
I remember when FNaF: Security Breach came out and was completely broken and unfinished, and now people are defending it after the fact because the developers apologized and fixed the bugs. No amount of bug fixing will ever excuse that absolute dumpster fire from being knowingly released with a $40 price tag slapped on it.

It was Rare's most ambitious game ever created, I'll have to give them credit for that. They learnt exactly how little content and options and variety they could possibly include and still successfully target the younger generation with successful sales. It's very ambitious to do little or no work whatsoever and expect to get a lot of money. On top of that, what, there's no enemy ships and crews to do battle with? That's half the point of being a pirate! Scuttling and appropriating ships and making people walk the plank! And drinking rum! And hallucinating near death because of scurvy!

They should have included the Royal Navy, the Spanish fleet, and the French to oppose the pirates in the sea. Give us towns and villages to plunder, give us a wanted rating, give players the challenge of becoming the most wanted and feared pirate in all of Sea of Thieves. But watch it because the higher the wanted level, the higher the bounty, making any player wanting to collect that bounty. Give us raids or dungeons, let us customize our ships, bribe guards to walk around untouched. Give us classes to go with our pirates with different fighting styles and weapons. The more a player uses a weapon the better they become at it, inflicting more damage and eventually unlocking better weapons and armor. No I don't want another Pirates of the Caribbean online or a Warcraft at sea, but so many possibilities with this idea to truly become an ambitious game yet it's wasted.
So basically Black Flag?
Button Mash In a way but Black Flag isn't MMO nor does it have the ability to plunder towns. Black Flag is by far the best pirate game IMO but it lacked the connection with the crew that Sea of Thieves provides.
Button Mash Life as a pirate was dangerous but lucrative. That's what needs to be created.
I was hoping it would be Sid Meier’s Pirates with better graphics, and more co-op. This sucks.

Well they added some more quests, but it's still basically a fairly dull game.
My favorite trick was to sneak aboard an enemy ship with a barrel of gunpowder, put it next to their stove, and put a Banana on the stove. After about 5 minutes, the burning banana would set the floor on fire, igniting the gunpowder and BOOM! Time bomb.

as for content they just need more events, enemies, and most importantly SEA LIFE.
asside from megs and krakens which are rare spawns there is litterally nothing that will attack you in the ocean.
unless you get to close to a skelly ship but that's honestly a choice.
pvp sucks because hit registration just doesn't work as intended half the time and the weapon types offered here result in very little diversity.
customization is weak even if its pretty much the only thing you can get as *progression*
we need customization choices to the architecture of ships themselves like the shape and placements of certain things like masts and capstans.
This sounds unfair but if you keep everything relatively the same size it won't change the core dynamics of each ship at all.
And server sizes are still a joke with its like 16-20 player limit ( i rememeber it being 16 but apparently its 20 now )
either way the seas feel dead and crew sizes being limited to 4 at max just doesn't feel like you're part of a pirate crew.
i honestly have way more to explain about these issues especially in terms of content and lack of listening to player feedback but i think you get the point

I remember them saying too much water on Pokemon ruby/sapphire (the game is suppost to have water everywhere)
So they Added the stuff including: Fishing, Cooking, a New Guild, A campaign called tall tales where they have 9 stories, Ghost ships, Megaladon, and Kraken mechanics now attack sloops. I would say while it took a year i say they have worked upon there game immensely.. The game we have now should have been what we had then.
Now they're adding a Pirates of the Caribbean DLC.
It might’ve been rough when it launched, but the developers stuck with the game and kept updating it, it’s a totally diffrent game now, really hope Joe could rereview it in 2020

I have insider and I enjoy the ashen lords the emissary flags are cool to me because once you get it to grade 5 you basically have a gilded voyage and a 2.5 times multiplier and the ghost ships are a difficult challenge that you and your crew have to overcome

Sea of Thieves... a 60$ game with no economy, trading, combat, guild system, customisation, story, one kind of enemy. The irony is in the title of the game.

Well I mean it depends on your expectation and you are definitely wrong about a few things, there is an economy system I mean you get gold and you spend gold on weapon skins and whatnot so there is customization and a economy system. Also there is combat, I mean one of the biggest things about this game is the ship vs ship combat. Now some of the things I can understand like yeah there could be more enemy variety and some more customization(though let's be honest it's never gonna be like division or destiny). Trading I don't really see a need for but a guild system with your own Pirate flag would be cool. As far as the story goes again that's your own expectations, no one expected a story and it was never touted as a story or single player game. This was specifically a multiplayer only game. Thankfully with free content and a huge expansion in two months I'm hoping they resolve some of these things.

There are still 0 exchanges in the game that change your experience on a fundamental level. Gold is used for... cosmetics, only. No ship upgrades, no weapons upgrades, no character upgrades... it’s an absolutely aimless game. It’s hard to imagine how the footwork is so phenomenal, just to set up something so disappointing.
Surprisingly, this game now is actually really good, it’s finally the game it had to be when it was released. That doesn’t excuse what it was at launch however

LegalEyes there was plenty added, things like megaladons, new forts like ghost forts, an entire new part of the map with new islands, main quests, more dynamics for the ship like broken masts, flaming cannonballs, cursed cannonballs, you get loot for killing the kraken as well as megaldons, everything in game is also way cheaper, an arena mode, a new ship, way more cosmetics, and more, so if you love pirates and pirate games, I highly reccomend you get it

@@OneTrickBrett I liked "Kaptajn Kaper I Kattegat", that game was monumentally ahead of it's time (1981). The most disappointing thing about it, was that, as soon as you could capture your first military troop transport, you would have basically unlimited crew and could board and destroy everything in the game with zero risk. But it had a three stage story progression, where you'd eventually receive a message in a bottle (?) that you had been promoted to Admiral and you marry the countess, the end.
From what I've seen of SoT, the forced 1st person perspective seems to present a real immersion problem: How do you render OCEANIC shipfare, when that is very boring, without making it boring? How can you have oceans, that are not tiny, tiny lakes, and still traverse them in real time?
I used to boot up GTA, turn on the radio, and put the convertible on cruise control.... to NOT play the game, in order to enjoy it more. I want to have that option in a pirate game, the abbility to zoom out and do something, as well as, zoom in and do nothing but chill at the sights and nothingness. Go for a casual swim at a beautiful coral reef, that features nothing else, safe from maybe a few pearl clams. My impression is, that SoT cannot deliver that realism.
I also don't understand the art style choice. In my head-canon, the pirate character is relevant/mechanically functional because of either: a) being grotesquely unpleasant, disgusting, ugly, smelly, nasty, swine-of-swine, or b) being young, brash, coy, crafty, gorgeous and super-ultra SEXY, or c) Jack Sparrow, bit of a mix. Not Hello Neighbour.

How did they steal? This isn't No Man's Sky. They didn't lie. If you bought and thought you were stolen from with the lack of content you only have your self to blame. Either way it's no excuse to pirate.

The "more content," people keep exclaiming, they added is pretty much more of the same boring stuff. The gameplay hasnt changed much, still repetitive as sin,all you fight are skeletons and every reward seems to be cosmetics. No penalty for PvP, and constantly having the same person come back over and over again is just a pain
People should stop being so forgiving of this game, it's, mediocre now, at best.

Agree, got the game on game pass and for 1 euro (introductory month) it's a bargain, but for 60 dollars... It is surprising how close this review still comes, even though new content has been added. Me and my pals still had a blast, but noticed how many things feels like they are missing:
- varied enemies (different skinned skeletons doesn't mean they are different at heart)
- progressive talent tree or character build (it might ruin the balance though)
- using gold for other than cosmetics (bigger backpack, customizable ship other than buying different coloured ship parts, I mean actual customization)
- being able to save some of your stuff (I know it doesn't take long to collect more cannonballs and food, but it is still frustrating to start from scrap each time you start the game)
There are many things this game does right, such as ship-to-ship combat, beautiful graphics, music and atmosphere (facing the kraken for the first time, and fighting Megadolon, although the guy takes way too many hits and the fight gets a bit boring after a while), random skeleton ships. I would recommend playing this with a friend, solo playing might get a bit too frustrating.
Fun game, but not worth the full prize.

There should've been a big pirate city on an island that acts as a hub where you can buy and trade, purchase new ships or upgrade your ship. Also a customisable CPU crew would be cool. Maybe even the ability to make settlements on islands. Lot's of things they could've done.

I think that’s the idea of what they plan on doing. They’ve said they want to add all these different things as time progresses. I do agree though that there is a lack of content rn.
... You do realize you can buy upgrades for your ships at any outpost, and once you hit Legendary Status you unlock a new part of the map where only Legendary pirates can access right? (Upgrades as cosmetic only items they stated no weapons or ships will have an advantage over other ships or weapons of the same type to keep everything balanced)
Upgrade: To raise (something) to a higher standard.
So no, you cannot buy upgrades for your ships. You can however buy a new skin for it from the 4 choices available :D

@@lacuna3693 personally i think adding things along a games life extends its longevity. Battle passes are a different take. But game updates and dlc add ons are a great thing to add to a games fun. Sea of thieves has been an amazing game in terms of updates, every complaint they had in this old review has been squashed by updates and constant additions to the game. A series showing the updated state of a game could be nice, like a news update.
