I remember when this game came out my friend was super hiped, bought all the DLC and was showing off that he got it. When I went to his house and played it, it seemed pretty crappy but I didn't say because I THOUGHT that I hadn't seen its full potential. A little less than a month later, I ask him how it is. He basically said, "what the hell is evolve"

Geert Matthys I don't think you must complete a game in all instances to make a review. Multiplayer games you just need to play the game long enough. The same thing can be said for most games whether they are RPG or action games, if you have spent 15 hours on a game I think you're in a good place to make a review generally. I don't need to see a game out to know whether the gameplay is fun or not.

Well, I'm glad I did buy Titanfall last year. It taught me never to buy another AAA multiplayer game on release, especially after I saw it go on sale digitally with the season pass for around $20. So, Evolve is a definite pass for me.

I had totally forgotten this game was even a thing. Remember the hype for this before it came out?
I remember that it looked so cool on magazines and trailers. I was like "hell yea, I can't wait to play this when it comes out", but I never got back to it.
I was very fortunate cause while I got hyped off of trailers I only bought games based on recommendations from friends, and since evolve flopped so hard I was never made to suffer thanks to them.
I lost interest in this game when I saw that they wanted $15.00 for one monster for DLC. 1/4 the cost of the game just to play as ONE monster? Yeah, Fuck That.
Between this and The Order and Watch Dogs and Asassin's Creed Unity and so on, I think it's fair to say the AAA industry is a fucking joke
And Nintendo is laughing in the background going I told you AAA gaming is a waste of time!

We had the overhyped three last year (Titanfall, Watch_Dogs and Destiny) and now that Evolve & The Order: 1886 have come out, it seems like we're going to have a repeat of 2014 in terms of 3rd party games - a load of overhyped games that aren't worth the full retail price.
and Watch Dogs was lame and Call of Duty became predictable a few years ago and Far Cry 4 is basically more Far Cry 3.
Yet indie games are original ,cheap and fun yet ppl complain.
If you want an honest review, Always go with an independent reviewer. Angry Joe is spot on with this review because it's never biased or "paid for". Good job.
It is biased because this is a heavily competitive game so of course its going to be a lot of the same stuff. Its like arguing that your sick of having people fight in mortal kombat and want them to sit down and play poker or golf instead. And the game does have some good flavor story moments between characters while in the wild, certain areas or about to be dropped off from the sky. They way Joe says it makes it sound like team fortress 2 needs a campaign or its shit.
Oh its is biased, but the thing is Joe immediately tells you what his bias is and why he reviews the game so because of the acknowledged bias.
That is rare, very rare.
His reviews may not work for everyone, but they work for me. The truth is there will never be any source that will review a game that everyone agrees with because it's ultimatly based on opinion. I perfer independent reviews over the mainstream ones because they have more freedom and control to be genuine. I had a feeling this game would not be that good (just like destiny) because they went overboard with the PR campaign. Joe got it right IMO and that's why I continue to watch and support his reviews.

I would question if you even played the game competitively because the gameplay is great and exciting of how one moment it can seem impossible to the next where you are actually breaking the defense of the latter, The value of teamwork and strategy really show out here where as the monster you need to seperate or attack them all at once in hopes of making some permanent damage, and depending on who you're fighting changes your tactics completely and where perseverance in the face of hopelessness can prove fruitful.
Joe had trouble with a AI monster and the AI monster is complete shit to anyone who can actually play the game, and the way he wines about hanks(support class) orbital barrage knocking ppl away from the location, this is a complete noob argument because he just isn't used to the ability, its incredibly powerful and takes predictions to be used effectively or can be used to deny ground to the monster making the possibilities for it very strong and obviously, if such a thing didn't at least push you back it would be overpowered.
And again the story is for flavor, it was never meant to be something on the par with "The last of us PS3 or Gears of War xbox 360"

And the comments and story you do get are very genuine with the characters giving their takes or experiences and all are very diverse and come from very different back grounds.
It may not be paid for so he says good things. But he is telling you about it through his personal experience with the game and what he found out while playing it. So the point will be honest. But from how he gauges it. If you ask a different person who saw the same exact things and had the same complaints. They might say. It was worse than joe said. Or better. It really depends on how people gauge the game. Example I agree with him on every point on destiny. When he made that review. The difference is I still find it very playable and worth going back to from time to time. Heck. While I've already done them many times. I still find the raids in destiny some what fun. That's the only reason I still play it too.
A perfect example of a game not matching its price. If it was a free-to-play game, or a $20 game like Joe said, it totally be worth it. But for $60, no thank you.
Its not a horrible game, mind you, but a lot more was needed at release to warrant $60. I even remember a year or so back, this game was free to get on Xbox One as a free game of the month for Xbox Live Gold membership users.
Man, remember when *that* was their model for free games and not their Gamepass subscription?

Guess there would be no chance of trying it again. Still such a shame, the game's premise was so interesting. If they had only put real effort into making it.
I'm glad I decided not to buy it now. I was hyped for this game when I first saw it in gameinformer. I love Left for dead and the concept of this game seemed great to me. But I never pre order and I always wait for a few weeks to see how a game is before I buy it. If we all never pre-ordered and had the patience to buy a game a month after release micro transactions wouldn't have ever existed.
Such a waste of potential. I actually had quite a lot of fun playing as the monsters. Mainly the kraken and the Goliath. I’d prefer evolve over fortnite any day.
They should have made this game to be like the alien humanoid creature answer to zombies from Left 4 Dead but they fucked it up. Hence why Left 4 Dead 2 is still going strong and this game is dead.

For example look at Titan Fall, Destiny, and Evolve. To me it seems like the actually content for some of these games is getting shorter and shorter, or is being broken apart to sold later or something
Yes, it kind of just makes me want to only play games from Naughty Dog, Rockstar, Valve and Bethesda, as they are the only companies who have delivered on basically every game they make.
Bilbo Baggins I lost respect for Rockstar ever since they failed to deliver on their promises of heists in GTA. The fact that they were able to show commercials and ads for it, yet every update they would go and say "heists are coming up soon". Fuck Rockstar. I'm not paying them for one of their games ever again, I'd rather buy it from gamester or some mom and pop shop.

Don't pay attention to shit. Turtlerock doesn't care about a single thing we say. They care only about balancing the game(which they did an absolute horrible job) instead of fixing the fuck ton amount of glitches and bugs. It's just unplayable between the bugs and the community. I loved the concept of this game but it just lost my vote when turtlerock decided to ignore their players and fuck the game further

The Forest, No Man's Sky, MineCraft, and Space Engineers are all better than the biggest AAA titles out there. Some big corporations are even trying to copy indie developers, making the exact same game except for double the price and contains microtransactions. An example is Sony's ripoff of DayZ known as H1Z1.

Calling it "games journalism" even in reference to what it should be is an insult to real journalism. Pretty much all "games journalism" was/is is a big marketing ploy. Its dishonest and deceptive at its core.
I couldn't say I didn't see it coming, but hey it's 2k let's have some faith. Nope, all aspects I feared that might crash the game become reality. This asymmetric 4v1 concept just don't work well without top notch cooperation, even 2k is behind the wheel. I wouldn't say it's a shitty game, it does play well when everybody in the match "play it right", but that just simply doesn't happen for the most part.
To me this seems a LOT like Guns of Icarus Online, in that the game is pretty damn great when you got two ships going at it with crews who communicate, but the game totally breaks down when you try to play in a pub match with people who don't have/use mics, and it has no other single player content. Obviously the biggest difference is that Guns of Icarus Online only costs like 20 dollars, with some cosmetic DLC thrown into the mix.

I played both of the games and battlefront still holds me much longer, maybe because its star wars but I dont feel as bad about it as Evolve
The ideas behind this game had so much potential. The world building (when you get the right hunters together) was very interesting. with the DLC characters there's even more fascinating world building (not worth buying, especially now that they killed the online play and bricked the pc version. just look up youtube videos, namely Caira and Kala and Lennox.) Basilisk soldiers, Lazarus men, Megacorp. named Hub, and much more. bits of the dialogue make this game feel like a tiny piece of a much bigger plot.
few bullet points with hunter dialogue:
caira and Cabot: Reports of these monsters attacking other worlds. confirming that these monsters weren't on Sheer originally.
Caira and Kala: Kala spliced herself with monsters dna to help her understand the monsters. sometimes when she speaks (like when in a downed state) she does not sound like herself. She cracked the genetic code using a formula best known for FTL drives (formula was made up for this game).
Caira (forget who else): The eggs aren't actually eggs, they just spawn a monster in a split second in case of emergencies. They are actually energy collectors.
something else we haven't seen yet left these "eggs" behind. something is allowing these monsters to spread rapidly. They also appear to be "engineered" not natural. In fact, Kevlar was found in some of their scales, implying they are attempting to adapt to bullets.
Plus more: These and more sound like a small piece of a much bigger campaign. One that if a sequel we're likely never going to get takes advantage of all the little details mentioned in these conversations, it could be awesome! sadly, it was squandered by a greedy publisher. (GEE, DOESN'T THAT SOUND FAMILIAR?! almost like its a common occurrence.)
Its a shame, the core gameplay was fun, but clearly was not nearly enough. Evac. needed to be a side mode, not the substitute for a campaign. You had a lot of good ideas here Joe.
BTW: mistake: you emphasized Bucket's "No one seems to know" and you said "Didn't these idiot colonists notice them. . ." Bucket immediately said after that "They are likely not indigenous (interrupted) to sheer." so, No, they weren't there in the first place so the colonists COULDN'T know.
So much wasted potential for this universe. shame what happened to it.

Dying Light is a hell lot better than Evolve. And Dying Light isn't a disappointment, it's cliched like all zombies genre.

Point being, I "love" how this year started with Dying "6/10, wait for a sale" Light, Evolve, The Order and what's next? MKX? Yeah, since Injustice and MK9 were a little bit better than "fucking bad" and they've already locked a character behind pre-order DLC, there is no faith to be had. Before anyone asks, locking characters like that in a game that aims for tournament play, fuck you, it's undefendable, go away.

Just looked that up, and yea... I'm starting to think IGN hate water... I mean Pokemon got a 7, and Majora's mask got a 8.7/10, which is a good score, a really good score. But the negative part was "Great Bay Temple" Okay so the one temple, that has water in it, which if you use the map on the bottom screen it's not difficult to figure out where you're at and all the pipes...

whenever I played as a monster and I knew a group had a shitty Tracker, I decide not to evolve. I would just stalk/sneak the hunters and just fuck with them.

They are all over the place. Just for starters Maggie does not fall through the map that was in Beta, and was fixed. I've played the game every day since launch and have never seen Maggie do that. Why would he show that in the video? Pretty shoddy game coverage I must say.

Monster Hunter doesn't need player-driven monsters to be great, which it is.
Taxtro I know, but it's the closest comparison I could think of. Both focus on hunting giant, badass monsters with up to 4 people. Of course, MH4U has a single player mode, weapons and armor that are earned by the player rather than bought, and free DLC released on the first Friday of every month for the next several months. Plus it's cheaper and for a cheaper system. I can live without controlling the monster if I get all this instead.
