  • Back in the '80s, the crime drama Magnum P.I. wasn’t just a hit show, it was a phenomenon. It made viewers want to sport a Tom Selleck mustache, short shorts, dashing white boat shows, Vuarnet shades, and a Detroit Tigers baseball cap. Yup, it was a long time ago -- although a Tom Selleck mustache is in style in any era.
The hit series ran for eight seasons in the '80s and was consistently ranked as one of the top shows during that time. But where have all the cast members been up to since the show ended? Here’s what happened to the original cast members of Magnum P.I.

@@Abraksas112 Well then you don't know how pathetic tv execs and networks are these days because their sad plan is to reboot classic shows to try to outdo them instead of making their own original content with their own merit. And just because they can reboot anything doesn't mean they should. Best to leave a good thing alone and actually do some real work.

    • @Abraksas112

@@kendallrivers1119 Who cares about what execs are planning with these reboots? While I don't think every reboot is a good one I did enjoy my fair share of reboots, including some of those where I already loved the original. Let me tell you a secret, you can watch a reboot without having to forget the original or expecting it to be better or as good as or whatever.
And many of those reboots I watched did try to do their own thing instead of being a plain copy. So may I suggest you start actually watching reboots instead of whining about them thinking you know everything while you apperently actually know nothing?
Do I think every reboot is neccessary? Absolutely not. Do I think every reboot is good? God no. But plenty reboots actually are real good, and mostly because they actually try to do their own shit with it.
And yeah, execs probably aim for outdoing the original. But is that really a bad thing? I mean, shouldn't you always aim for the highest? And if the original gets destroyed for you because of a reboot than thats on you, not on those who make the reboot. Just as with songs and games and stuff.
But maybe I should just consider myself lucky for having this wonderful ability to enjoy reboots, remakes, covers and whatever instead of being all whiney because they try to kill my favorite things.

They were very different in behaviour and lifestyle but they shared many common values such as integrity, honour and loyalty, as well as a military background. They may have had a begrudging respect for each other but they always had trust. It was one of the best written relationships on TV at that time.

The main problem with the reboot turning Higgins to a young hot action hero woman type besides being corny as hell is that it takes away what made Thomas and Higgins' relationship so interesting, unique and great: while they bickered and drove each other crazy you never doubted they would kill or die for one another in a heartbeat. They were both rivals and friends and had trust and a bond that two soldiers have. The reboot just wanted they cliche will they\won't they crap and god forbid have four men on a show these days. I guess that my wife and I are finding it hard to watch the remakes. I have seen a few episodes of the new Magnum PI and I think that I would like it if we had not so enjoyed the original. Maybe the same with Macgyver. It's just hard for us to watch the remakes. If you're asking about 1980's shows to update their fans, then how about Simon and Simon, Remington Steele, Macgyver, and Murder She Wrote.

I think reunion movies with the original casts just works better. Look at the Perry Mason ones from the 80's and 90s, Hart to Hart, Gunsmoke etc. I think if they had done Magnum in early 2010s as made for tv movies and reuniting that cast it could've been very successful.

Yeah I even remember seeing an ad in a magazine saying "Lily Magnum" so I was shocked and surprised to see they decided to do a reboot instead of a sequel series. kbz5150 I doubt it was that. I think that it’s he’s in his 70s and he’s comfortable with the role he has on a show that’s like comfort food television for who it’s aimed for (although it’s sad to see actors from The Wire and The Sopranos on such a trope filled cop show) so that’s a steady paycheck. I also think his career kind of slowed down after that horrible tv interview where you know who let her cutie patootie mask slip.

No one lived there for the past 30 years, so the owners did let it rot away! Hell, they should have hired me to keep up the estate in exchange for
