-- Feeling the need to test myself, and my new Swift Pack Boat
I travel to Algonquin park for a 3 night solo canoe camping trip.
Day one took me from my put in point at access #4 Rain lake, all the way to Misty Lake.

You are one of the lucky few that can live their adult dream with the support of your family. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Prayers for a full recovery 🙏
awesome Blossom - getting pretty good at this video thing
I paused to write this comment when you first said that you needed this Alone time... the solitude, Joe. I'll watch the rest of your video now. This just touched me for now. Looking forward to the rest....
I watched this wearing headphones and at 2:03 I swatted my ear!
Great video. Epic trip.
haha, damn bugs
Good job. It looks like I may have finally convinced you on the small hatchet idea. I look forward to part 2.
2:45 You carried that canoe1200 or 1300 kilometers? Wow Joe, that's impressive man. lol
Lol
hahahahah
Love coming back to these old videos even today!
That scenery looks like a painting.
OK, enough have jabbed you about the 1200km pore-tahj, so I'll leave those alone LOL!. Seriously, though, I know that you really enjoy your trips out with your buddies. I think we all enjoy trips out like that! But as for me, I'd rather watch your solo videos. You spend most of your time talking to me/us, about your life or your thoughts or whatever skill you happen to be generating. And that's the reason I watch.
Looking forward to the next video!
God bless
Ron
thanks man
My favourite video(s) of all time. 1, 2, and 3.
Been bombing through your videos for a few months now.. think I've seen most of them. I'm really impressed with your shot setup(s).. you do an excellent job of allowing us to forget you're doing all the filming, that you're alone out there seeing a shot, setting it up, walking through it, returning for the camera, continuing on. And your editing skills may be more impressive than your already admirable bushcraft skills! Thanks, as ever, for sharing this all with us.
Thanks for taking us on your adventure. That "canoeyak" of yours is awesome. Glad to see you didn't get carried off by black flies.......so far.
I have never back packed a day in my life, but will be starting this Spring. Thanks for the inspiration Joe!
that shot with the ladyslipper was dope!!!
Memories of another trip in another Swift (14') Canoe with my brother. One month to go 'til I get my 13.6...and then the Thames.
You looked very tired before you went to get firewood Joe, but it was a "good" kinda tired. I'm so jealous,, really glad your takin us with you. Thanks so much bud !!
Love the video and your journey is through magnificent country with plenty to see and enjoy. That axe is sure sharp and makes for creating great fire sticks and feathers. Looking forward to watching the other 2 videos to complete the trip. Shame about the pants, but I guess that it's one of the hazards of sitting near fires from time to time. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
thanks, glad you liked it :)
omg I love your canoe, its just perfect
awesome that you saw so many moose. :D
hi Lilly I love your videos your pretty badass keep up the good work
Thanks!, agreed :)
Hi Joe: good to see that some of what you learned on the previous trip is being used here. After doing them (at a slower pace) I believe solo canoe trips are uniquely satisfying. Brian 76
I read JoeRobinetBushcraft. I read Algonquin. I read Day 1.
I was ready to watch this, from the split-second it took me to read the title.
Then I saw it was solo.
I am so ready for this. :D
nice!
JoeRobinetBushcraft
When will the next two episodes air? (If you say now, I will actually stay up WAY past sensible bedtimes for fathers)..
lol, Monday will be day 2.
other than winter camping, portaging is another thing on my to-do-eventually list. Algonquin is where it's at.
You can put some rocks in your boat for ballast, to aid in moving up or down river or into or with the wind. Only caveat is you have to carry them on the portage trail!
Glad to see you reading the map on your own! Gives my confidence. Keep it up. Your videos KICK ASS JOE.
Man I love Misty Lake, it is where I have been able to take all my moose pics. The fishing isn't the greatest but the wild life around that lake is amazing. Cheers, John
So far, so good.
You seem to be getting along very well with your canoe, Look Ma, no hands! Please keep it coming, your videos are pushing me to getting out more and more for more than just sunning my tonsils flying R/C Sailplanes. My waist line is showing it!! Thank You!
Something I have always meant to try when paddling in the wind is take a bag that will seal and fill it with lake water and put i t up front for added ballast. Dump it when you dont need it anymore and roll up the bag for packing. Thanks for the videos!
yes, that is a great idea...will try.
Joe I've watched all your videos and they just keep getting better. Very one is a little better then the last. Keep it up, I really enjoy them. Thanks.
Really appreciate the videos Joe. I know it can't be easy trying to film while camping and canoeing. Looking forward to part 2.
Another awesome video Joe. Keep it up.
That must have been one heck of a first portage. (720 miles) had to bust your stones on that mistake, sorry!
+Teddy Feist I'm sure he did, just had to kid him. I love his adventures like this one. He busts his butt to bring us along and for that I'm blessed.
LOL, I was like, wait did I hear him right? Damn he's in good shape!
Man, Joe is a beast to do a 1200+km portage! LOL! Easy slip up Joe, I've done it myself. I love the hard work you do. I do the same with camera setups when I'm by myself on expeditions.
1300 kilometers pffft easy ;)
pretty badass :P
Outstanding video. Loved the put in spot on the river. Thank for taking the time to share your trip.
Great hatchet. Will have to get on some day.
Take care,
Al
Really dig the video. I edc a fixed blade and couldn't go anywhere without it but I like the fact that your doing your thing and not being influenced by the super bushy/survivalist. Haha you should also bring the dog. Cool series
I love this! My favourite place in the world! Great job Joe!
just took backpacking as a new hobby this year..and have been making videos as i go along.. with that said, your dedication to have a great time and make awesome videos is amazing..#hardworkpays
Hey, I wanted to give a quick thanks. I have always been into the outdoors which was cultivated by the boyscouts, but your videos motivated me to get up off the couch and get back out there. Thanks!
Hey Joe, awesome job capturing this trip. I did much of the same route in 2015, and again last June. Love that part of the park. Am really enjoying your videos and appreciate all the work that must go into shooting and producing them. Thanks for bringing us along.
Since watching you on the "Alone" show iv become a bit of a fan of your channel.
You have a lot to teach us and i get the impression you learnt a lot about yourself on that "Alone" experience good and bad.
Keep it up mate i respect what your doing.
Thanks!
I can relate to the pinhole burns in all my outdoor clothes. Shaping up to be another excellent trip series!
Joe, you've absolutely got the best outdoors/bushcraft channel on CZcams. Great destinations, subjects, and editing. Thanks.
thank you!
Just looking at some of your older stuff Joe. They were good, but are getting even better.Nice to see the progression . If your ever looking for a rest stop ,we are in Barrie in a 5 bedroom house(Lots of space). You are more than welcome to stay and recharge your batteries on your way north. Keep on trekking. Take care.
Seems like a great trip Joe. Spent some time years ago on the Petewawa, a place called Mcmanus lake. Looks pretty similar to where you are was a great time. Thanks for sharing.
This is why I love canoeing. Beautiful edit and presenatation.
I'v done 2 vids on my canoe trips up north.
Did the North and West side with my then wife. Eleven days of bliss. I recall my pack was 65 pounds...our canoe a special lightweight aluminum 34 pounds plus paddles and fishing gear (no fish) my ladies pack was 35 pounds. I carried my pack and canoe she her pack and life jackets. Humped through those portages. Great trip too much gear but was packed tight in 2 waterproof bag they got lighter as food diminished. Excellent trip. Best
Like the canoe and that personal touch you put on it (scout).
Hey Joe, awesome video, thanks for taking us along. I passed through Daisy last June and saw two moose (almost certainly the same ones you encountered) at the takeout for the Misty-Little Misty portage.
Thanks for bringing us along on your adventure. 👍🐾🐾
Algonquin Park is such an amazing place to enjoy wilderness, you are lucky you can go on your own. I love your canoe.
Looks like paradise to me. Thanks for bringing us along, I am definitely enjoying.
It also looks like you've got your setup really dialed in now, which is great.
The West side of the Park is a nice choice. It's certainly less busy than the central part. Although timing matters, and mid- to late June is a great time to be in Algonquin. Starting shortly, things get busy with youth camp canoe trips for a good eight weeks. Admittedly, I used to be part of that busy-ness ... but that's where I discovered how much I love canoe tripping.
Great to see all the moose.
I used to carry a Buck 119 on canoe trips, but not on my belt (it lived in the wannigan). Its primary duty was food preparation, which was pretty silly insofar as it is not a particularly good kitchen knife. I think I generally agree that, in the normal course of events, a belt knife might be overkill. I guess the strongest argument for having one is the 'what if I lose my gear' type scenario ... and then you have to rely on whatever you have on your person. If you feel you could get by with the SAK, I guess that would do it.
A different, but related, issue is whether or not your pack will float (when fully loaded ... so, at the beginning of the trip, with all the food weight). Unfortunately, there is only one way to find out.
love your videos! hubby and I have been watching every evening for over a week.
Magnificent video!
my day is always better when you upland video
Awesome video Joe.... looking forward to Day's 2 and 3!!
I'm jealous of your boat in comparison to my kayak. Thanks for sharing the trip!
nice one Joe... greetings from Bosnia
"OH MY GOODNESS" you sounded like a happy little kid
Awesome! vid Joe. I always love these
You have a good plan on resting, refueling, and thinking things out as you go. I have to say that your videography is stupendous these days, Joe... really loving it. (especially the under boat portaging video). The moose(es) was a great bonus. A leech in the boat is better than a leech in your crotch... that's what I always say! I think so far, you are having a great time. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to your sharing the rest of your solo trip.
thanks man :)
I"ve always wanted to see a Moose, lucky you!! I have a Gränsfors Bruks small splitting axe and cut up an entire huge oak tree, awesome axes, I'll never buy anything else.
Another awesome video, keep at it joe
Looks like a blast Joe. Love those Canadian feather sticks.
The evolution of your outdoor experience is nice to see! Paddle on, Joe, paddle on!
great video and those are some pretty cool moose
Your vids are skyrocketing in quality. So prof.
love the inside the canoe view. thanks for sharing (especially since I can no longer do anything like that anymore) as it brings back memories from the 70s & 80s when every weekend & lots of time between was woods running. nice to see your moose are similar to our Alaskans size.
stay safe keep warm have fun and whittle to keep your sanity
just another ol greybeard dino

yeah Moose-Country! really enjoy your videos - looking forward for the next episodes. cheers!
Taking the videos to the next level..!! Breaking the epic trips into multi part instalments is a good way to go when you have so much footage and great content. You could have broken down your last epic trip with Kyle into a multi part as well and had us hungry for the next instalment. I would rather watch these real life adventures you have over the majority of the big budget rubbish on TV. I really like your channel, i can Surreptitiously (google that word, i did...) escape to the wilderness between my own adventures and i have to work and pay the bills. Really appreciate you sharing and putting so much into this. Thanks, Tom (UK)
Thanks, Tom. I really appreciate it :)
Exciting portages!
Thanks;
Clark
Great video Joe! I need to get out and do the same! Looking forward to part 2!
that was an awesome intro. I can't use words to describe how cool I thought that was
You are a natural videographer / storyteller. I appreciates hearing your thoughts about blade carry, and the multi use capabilities of your Granfors hatchet. I am also looking forward to your thoughts about your Swift Pack boat, as the thought of kneeling while paddling - in traditional canoes - is NOT appealing to me at all, as I know my legs would go numb.
lucky dog. looks like a nice relaxing trip.
Looks like a great trip. Did a similar route last year, looks like you definitely saw a lot more moose though! Thanks for bringing us along!
Using the map on the PaddlePlanner website while watching these videos really helps to give a person a sense of where you are.
This video is incredibly well filmed and edited, a much more professional feel, loved it
thank you
Great video and camera work Joe. Always like when people take the time to get the shots for us watching at home. Your canoe looks awesome. So light. You really get your moneys worth with light canoes when it comes to going ashore.
Good stuff Joe, looking forward to part 2.
Cheers,
Gorbag
Nice Video. Looking forward to the next chapter :) I wish we had that kind of nature in Denmark ....
Awesome - looking forward to the rest... you were not kidding awhile back when you said you were really gonna start paring down your gear to less stuff and weight, right down to that red light pack you took even.
thanks buddy :)
It's always fun to watch, as you bring us some of natures beauty. Thanks for bring us along and showing some of what you are going through. God Bless!
Bloody beautiful stuff Joe, love you're work mate, thanks and cheers brother.
Sweet trip Bro., Looking forward to the remaining vids...
I'm amazed of how much work and effort you put in your videos. Keep it up!
One of your better trips..
you show us some really great places to be Joe. Thanks
Awesome trip, thanks for bringing us along, looking forward to see more.
Love your vids, Joe!
Tanks man! Love your new pack!
when you go on these adventures, it's like this world is a peaceful world.
Ahhh Algonquin paddle it many times and got to see so many interesting things. Great video but I have a couple of questions/observations - no spare paddle? no PFD? no bailing bucket? Perhaps just didn't show up in the video.
Keep it up I'm very envious.
nice first episode
