- Martin Scorsese received the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures from Guillermo del Toro at the 35th Annual PGA Awards on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

What a great speech. Made me think about how seeing Taxi Driver at a lousy small theater in upstate New York in 1976 impacted me and then seeing Killers of the Flower Moon at the IMAX in Manhattan this past year and all the great pictures he has gifted us with in all those years in between. And listening to him speak of cinema has inspired me to look at historic movies I probably would have neglected. And what an into by the other master, Guillermo!
agreed. I mean I did not listen to the speech but he is what 82 ? Most people lose a lot of cognitive ability by then. Yet he directed a movie which has received positive reviews and he has been nominated for an Oscar. That is incredible. Taxi Driver came in 1976 so that makes it almost 50 years and running. And in these years I have not seen a bad movie from him. Of all the ones I watched there has not been a single bad movie.
Wow that intro by Del Toro just flowed... And with no teleprompter or notes it looks like. What a beautiful tribute to the master!

I'm actually amazed at Scorsese's cognition for his age. It must have been all that practice of remembering his favorite films throughout his lifetime that has given him an incredibly sharp ability when it comes to speaking and memorizing.
