Honorary Golden Bear: In Conversation with Martin Scorsese I Berlinale Talents 2024

- The Berlinale is proud to present this year’s Honorary Golden Bear to a filmmaker who’s constantly pushed the medium toward uncharted paths. With a body of work spanning six decades and over fourty features, running the gamut from crime epics to animated features and religious dramas, Martin Scorsese has revolutionised the medium, and reinvented himself with every new film. His latest, "Killers of the Flower Moon" (Apple Original Films), is a vivid and engrossing testament to the power of cinema to turn into what critic Roger Ebert once called an “empathy machine,” a telepathic conduit between filmmaker and audience. Hosted by none other than acclaimed British director Joanna Hogg, this in-depth panel will invite the two filmmakers to reflect on Scorsese's journey through films, as well as our shared love for cinema in all its languages.

He is one of the very few outstanding filmmakers in history, same level as Hitchcock and Kubrick. I will always love Scorsese for his work and also his fight against those companies who want to tell what people should watch instead of letting the art flow and glow.
Marty is an existentialist. Thanks a lot for the interview.

I tried to buy a ticket exactly when they went online. After 2 seconds everything was sold out. This event should have been organised in a much bigger aula, in my opinion.
@kweb I'm sorry to hear that. It's important to note that these events are for Berlinale Talents and so half the tickets are held for the talents - the other half is opened up to the public. It is likely that this format will continue because the HAU 1, 2 and 3 are the most appropriate places to facilitate this week long program for the talents from what I can see - in terms of vicinity to other festival events and ease of access for the 200 talents who are selected for this prestigious program. I suggest logging in earlier and going into the queue.

어젯밤 서울의 한 소극장에서 영화를 봤는데, 여러번 곱씹을수록 정말 좋은 영화네요. 감독님의 성찰적 영화 만들기가 깊은 영감을 줍니다. 누군가를 열등, 우등하다고 나눌때 그 의도를 들여다 봐야 합니다. 그들을 “보호” 한다고 구역을 설정해뒀지만, 실상은 그들의 권리를 빼앗고 가두는 것이네요. 여전히 토착 아메리카인들은 “인디언”이라는 잘못된 명칭으로 전세계에 알려져 있습니다. 이 뿌리깊은 잘못된 역사를 감독님 영화의 마지막 두 장면에서 일종의 심판과 제의 (ritual)로서 기록했습니다. 교묘하게 착취적인 내현적 나르시시스트 어니스트 (honest로 들리는 Ernest) 라는 이름도 굉장한 풍자가 있습니다. 이런 인물이 되지 않도록 노력하는 삶을 살아야죠. 감사합니다. 마틴 스콜세지 선생님, 오래도록 건강하셔서 좋은 영화를 만들어주시길. 당신에게 깊은 존경을 전합니다. 👏👏👏

No questions from the audience? What is the point of a live event then? I’m almost glad not to have bought ticket for this.
marty never seems to be in need for questions, he has enough of them himself as well as answers. what a pleasure to listen to him, again and again. he has stories and imagination and memories in himself for ages. I just love that guy. how we all will miss him one day ...
