    When I used to look at the Charger I would think, "You're gonna go fast."
    When I used to look at the Trans Am I would think, "You're gonna get laid."
    I bought an MG Midget and neither happened.

      +dlclendenen Don't tell anyone but The Duke Boys were, in fact, originally pencilled in for using the Trans Am (for ease of jumping in over the doors) but, because Bandit got there first (Smokey and the Bandit, 1977, Dukes of Hazzard, 1979), Warner Brothers opted to go with the Charger instead. Also don't mention that Starsky and Hutch's Ford Gran Torino was in an early episode of the Dukes of Hazzard (Episode one, I think!) We don't want anybody knowing that!

    Defamation post: Come on people, stop picking on a late 70s Trans Am, they are beautiful cruisers. As for the General Lee, just like in "Bullit", that modified 390 Fastback was no match for the stock 440 Magnum. All three: Firebirds, Mustangs, Chargers are beautiful classics. I much rather drive a classic muscle car, over any late model Mopar, GM, or Ford. It must be an individual and or generational taste. Very good video indeed, I enjoyed it the most of all videos today.

    Apologies to General Lee fans: By virtue of my age (42 y/o), I have a great fondness for both of these magnificent vehicles. But despite my appreciation for both the General Lee and Bandit One, I do have to admit that my loyalty, and my love, ultimately lies with The Bandit. Memories (> six viewings) of going to see "Smokey and the Bandit" at the Brighton Cinema & Howell Theatre at the impressionable age of 5 y/o far outweigh memories of watching The Dukes of Hazzard at my grandmother's house.

      Kriegar1964 The 318 with the 2bl economy carb made about 190-200hp net. So they make similar power numbers, the Charger is 350lbs lighter, and you say there's not a snowballs chance? I'm sure the 400 has a bit more bottom end, but is it enough to make up for 350lbs?

    Why is everyone hating at someone who like the t/a instead of the general lee? Yea yea we know that the general lee is faster... But who cares? You don't buy classic cars to go fast? If you want to go fast buy yourself a new challenger, Camaro or mustang from about 2011 for about the same price as a 69 440 charger. You buy the bandit trans am to cruise in style, not break your neck with acceleration. We know that the late 70s muscle cars are slow, but you can't say they are not cool! Because those cars are fucking badass!

      Car companies are just remaking the old cars and giving them more horsepower it is not how much horsepower the car has but it is how well you can drive the car "it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile winnings, winning." "I live my life a quarter mile at a time but for those 10 seconds or less I'm free."

      that 1978 Pontiac Trans Am has a 468 stroker under that hood my dad build 3 of them.. im a big fan of the general lee but the trans am has it beat.

      Stock for stock, I don't think so. I never said anything about modded cars. The charger is faster stock. The RB block is capable of much than any Pontiac block.

    • @number3665
      @number3665 Před 10 lety

      Matt Larson Nah man the Pontiac 400 is the most under rated motor ever. Pontiac made some of the best motors and done right a 400 or 455 can hang with the best.

      thats bull...........440 6 pack is 390 h.p. stock car weighs 3800 lbs with manual trans and 4:10 gears it would eat up any transam with stock 455

    • @deerdestroyer2009
      @deerdestroyer2009 Před 10 lety +3

    • @acadianfever
      @acadianfever Před 10 lety +4

      The '77 Trans AM had the 400 pontiac. The '78's got the Olds 403, because of new emissions standards that Pontiac couldn't meet with the 400. The 400 revved better & had more power than the 403 too. The 4.9 wasn't used until 1980

    • @marioncobaretti2280
      @marioncobaretti2280 Před 10 lety +1

      they had 403 78 to79 on bandit models only, trans am had 400 pontiac . 403 was far more powerful than 400. i worked on all those cars back then. the 4.9 was a balless sack of shit until you disconnected knock sensor. then the timing would advance more and didnt knock with a ton of turbo boost. . crank main bearings were soft on the 4.9.
