It seems impossible for Dave to play a boring solo.
Also, amazing chops played exclusively in service of musicality, not just to show off.
Weckl is a genius.
Well said! "played exclusively in the service of musicality, not just to show off." I've never heard this session before and when it opened with a drum solo I was going to skip to the music. But I couldn't. The drummer is mesmerizing in his patterns, plays the spaces...it's beautiful.
He's got such finesse and power.
Yes, exactly. Always musical.
With great mullet, comes great responsibility.
That's good stuff!
Sorry, it is a shag.
@Tomi Igo Whatever... mullet ... mallet ... mascot ... musket ... that's it, must get -- I _must get_ the chops to play like that... lol
@Tomi Igo Probably a lot easier, huh?
@Tomi Igo Good thing I don't have a big igo, or I'd be insulted... lol
I heard the band live in Germany right outside of Frankfurt. My close friend, Gray Mayfield told me, "we are going to the front!" 2,000 people in an amphitheater and we are the only Americans. I was 12 inches away from Chic and he was the nicest genius I have ever met. There was a child crying in the audience and he added the cry in his solo! I was stupefied that he was that aware. Been a fan of these guys ever since. Once in a lifetime and I owe it all to Gray!
Three of the most brilliant musicians ever. RIP Chick.
The bass player is clearly an alien from another planet. What a solo that was!
John Patitucci, legend.
they're all aliens man
John Patitucci, WOW !
Highlight of my playing career was watching the Electrik Band play the Blue Note and sitting no more than 10ft from Dave. Sitting so close you can watch his technique clearly and in real-time. Amazing memory.
Dave's drums sounds absolutely magnificent here. And he's displaying such a nice balance between technique and musicality here. Huge fan of Corea, even the stuff before his Akoustic and Elektric bands. This is a great line-up.
Its hard to pick which era is my favorite for Dave but this early 90's time was so good. Also, when he had the Dave Weckl Band he was great too. He was great at holding it all together while playing complex patterns.
More powerful than a complete Philharmonic Orchestra. Dave Weckl....the man!
THIS A POWER TRIO 🎹🎼🎵🎶🎻🥁
The effortlessness from all three is enough to strike fear in the heart of the most advanced musician. It’s from another planet!
Perfectly said
Years of God given talent practice and experience on stage
Wow. Dave Weckl's chops are incredible, this guy is playing drums on another level.
As a drummer I have to say, Chick's mind is quick. Dave of course, exceptional. John outstanding. I guess that about covers the trio. Fantastic playing all around.
Corea is a Gemini which explains his quick mind, his Virgo ascendant explains his mind for details. He has a song called Gemini as well.
Yes, I agree. Plus his descending perambulative is in Derry&Toms, which I believe explains his long fingers.
@@olivercarlehed astrology is BS,.. these are great musicians
IMHO, the best soloist today. His feel and textures are extraordinary. His bass drum technique is at least among the best in this solar system.
His feel is unsurpassed. He's been my #1 for 35 years.
Its a sound engineer video too!!! the reverb in the snare drum is amazing!
Miss you, chick.
It always saddens me when I think that you , Dave and John would never produce or perform music together as trio anymore. I bet you always have new project in that amazing mind of yours.your musical legacy will live on forever, return to forever,Chick. That's where you belong.
I love him playing Zildjian cymbals.
Dave Weckl i'ts a monster fluid drummer, awesome musician.
Absolutely mind blowing. 3 of the best musicians on the planet.
Always a big fan of Dave, and this is the first time I remember seeing this configuration, with the small timbale instead of an 8" tom and the piggyback cymbal all by itself, not on top of another. He's playing as great as ever, of course.
Just when you thought the musicianship couldn't get any better with Weckl's intro, Corea and Patitucci raise the ante. What an astonishingly stellar trio. Wow.
His rig never sounded better than this era. And Pattitucci sitting there admiring his playing is so cool.
Even holding the left stick at the very butt end still all that control...crazy!! ..now his grip has evolved in more of a old school fulcrum..even better than ever
I’ve heard drummers complain that Weckl didn’t have a great swing in his younger days... to that I say watch this... and you’re high!
Drummers? Must be dumbers
@@StevenJamesBurks Interesting perspective, man... thanks for sharing that.
Steven James Burks ...sure... that’s the beauty of technique. The “out of the drums” approach that Dave has adopted is great for some things... but other times you just need to get in there! 💪🏻
@@StevenJamesBurks Cool... What approach is that, that you are studying? I'd love to check it out...
Steven James Burks ...sounds good man. Hit me up when you get it together.
Some of the finest music ever recorded!! They're all monsters
How rude.
They sure are!
Always click on the drum videos well most of the time usually are amazed, wowed, then sad, frustrated and then remorse what if I never got a job, got married had kids and continued with my passion of playing the drums. Still love watching/listening to these amazing drummers
Weckl and Patitucci are the GOAT rhythm section for small group jazz, and Chic is just masterful always.
AMAZING! F***ING classic DW. The touch, the feel, the creativity - wow. Speechless. He is one of my fav drummers of all time and is one of the best. Thanks a lot as never seen that. :)
toolband1992 lol DW. Never thought about his initials and the fact that he doesn’t play DW drums
Weckl's solo sound like a storm approaching. Called it a Weckl F5. Such a killing style before you can get damage relief. All vital sounds are good.
I used to have this on cassette, in my car, and listened to it all the time!
I'm 45 and through my drum instructor I got into weckl in 1990. This brings back so much. Thanks for posting
Technically and sonically stunning. Truly an awesome display of talent.
Awesome trio!
Wow ! This absolutely smokin!
One of the best performances I've ever seen 👍
WoW ! Mr Weckl ! Just wow! all three masters, thank you.
That's music!!!!!!!!!GRACIAS GRACIAS
Man this is beauty in motion for sure! Love the visual engagement the guys maintain through the tune...great display of musicianship and awareness! They let Humpty fall with grace. :)
Such a treat to watch! The trio is just incredible here, the highest level of musicianship ever! I never get tired of watching this video! 👍
Good job Dave!!! You are one of the greatest for sure
Man they sound flawless!
Absolutely Amazing!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
#RIP Chick!
😎
Great Armando Corea !!!
Heard this trio live in the eighties. Great memories! ❤ RIP Chick Corea.
oh man!, those drums sound goooood!
Fantastic power trio .
Cuando veo a Dave, a veces hace recordarme!! 😁😁😁😁
I love chick corea, man ... so awesome ...
My God are they killing it on this one. Amazing.
I remember listening to this when gadd played on the “ mad hatter” album, thinking what’s he playing, so fantastic, then to hear weekly just amp it up like only he can.
The original is worth a listen !
Original is great, but Dave takes it above and beyond.
Só monstro, os melhores sem duvidas !...
Dave has such marvellous control, weight and timing. Amazing mastery and the Acoustik band albums I own I play over and over primarily to hear Dave’s playing.
Absolutely insane from everyone here, love it!
Drumers and musicians of this higher and elite echelon always leaves me and any comments totally speechless and overwhelmed with no words that would even dare attempt to search hi and low as afar in the languages of the world that I could find to give them true praise and jjustice about the pure and raw like drumming skills they possess!.....Totally speechless I am always left dumb founded!.
First Chick Corea I ever heard was Return to Forever album Romantic Warrior. Remains one of my favorites still.
Wow Pattitucci is unbelievable.
This trio is my favorite jazz musicians
Amazing!
Impeccable.
Finest tone on drums I've ever heard. Superb engineering too.
Brilliant! On EVERY level!!!
Treinta años después la admiración será perpetua hacia este increíble trío.!!! Por siempre Dave Weckl !!
Highest level, virtuosity and perfection. Fantastic performance. Three monsters of modern Jazz
Neat to hear him playing the legendary Maple Custom line around the time of their release. All I can think about tonight though is Neil Peart :(
Chick loved great drummers!
Šta reći,fantastična muzika 🎶🥁🎸💖💖💖💖💖
Super nice.
Incrível precisão e leveza, Mr. Dave Weckl👏👏👏👏👏
Dang....so sweet...
Already at top then... Crazy part is, HE IS EVEN BETTER NOW
Loved it..
My favorite trio, awesome!
his drums sound outrageous...!! Good lord almighty these three people are transcendent musicians, truly out of this world
individually, they are great; together, they are astounding. I love Hancock, but there is a clarity and precision to Chick's playing that is awesome.
FREAKING DAVE WECKL! My lorrrrd!!!
So good on all levels, three inspring musicians.
All creating a oneness of magic juice.
very nice
This band is crazy good. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it is encouraging to me that even three of the best EVER still get people giving their video a thumbs down.
Weckle with corona hair'do'. Love the sounds of the Yamaha drums and of course the drumming!
Weckl playing melody at the end of his intro. Great!!!
what a powerful trio
Patitucci. Such a guy
Chick Corea Elektric Band and their Akoustic Band. I Love it all. Well done to drummer DAVE WECKL. I was tutored by the late Jack Harbutt of Adelaide South Australia for percussion. I may not be able to keep up with the pace of DAVE WECKL. what a blast Dave. Thanks for the brilliant solo..Best wishes from Robert ..Adelaide South Australia
The camera angle at 0:43 with the splash, right in front of Weckl's face. Excellent work.
still love it!!
Greatest of all time. There is only one Dave.
Coisa linda demais!!
úgy fogok "meg halni" hogy .....imádom ŐKET!Isten éltesen mindenkit!
It's unforgettable
Who is crazy enough to dislike this video?
for me, it's because the camera angles always changed...hurt my head.
@@018975 Close your eyes
@@3therspark63 good idea...
They couldn't dance to it.
maybe the Sabian fans....?! ;-)
THREE VIRTUOSOS IN THE STAGE 🎹🥁🎻🎼🎵🎶
Una obra de arte
I can't get over how so much time has passed in a flash. I saw these guys with Frank Gambale in 1986. All of Chick's bands were great. The last trio with Brian Blade and Christian McBride was awesome!
Is Patitucci doing an Eddie Gomez sounding solo here?
Nah, Patitucci also a regular bassist for Corea
Impresionante! Los mejores tiempos de Dave sin duda, con un groove mas natural y mas rico en matices que el actual. Ojalá retomara este estilo.
Agradécele a Grubber.
Damn you John... you are a monster
Sono senza respiro.....mamma mia Dave!!!
Dave Weckyl is a master of any genre he plays.
Someone accidentally hit the dislike button! Dave Weckl is the musical drummer ever!
To me, he too often sounds agressive. He does not spare his cymbals, that is for sure ! The more he will gain in humility, the better he will play and sound... And he is one among a legion to tighten the snare and the snare head so much. Less rim-shots would please me a great deal. Thumbs up to the one and only Pattituci
It's a recording from 1991, less rims shouts to please you ain't going to happen@@fredericlinden
he's not even the most musical drummer to play with chick
Transparency Audio & Music Productions You nailed it and I don’t understand the critic’s who can’t simply appreciate Weckl’s genius for what it is. I admire what he did in 1991 as much as I admire what he is doing today.
Just end every phrase with double strokes to get the Weckl sound
great drum solo
genial!
